Dark Souls 1 is unironically my favorite Dark Souls game and one of my favorite games of all time

I played DaS2 and I hated it. It felt too floaty, didn't have the same thoughtful connected map the first one did and it felt hard in a cheap, artifical way. (Bad hitboxes, etc)

I loved the aesthetic of DaS3 but it didn't feel like a dark souls game. Felt like I was playing Dark Souls bloodborne edition. Too influenced by BB which focused on fast paced combat. I usually go for hybrid build (miracles + dex) but I struggled. Magic was cucked and the game feels more geared towards regular melee builds. I couldn't finish the game, I got to the castle after dancer and lost interest. I considered restarting with a pure melee build but I dont have the drive. I realized what made Dark Souls 1 my favorite was the journey. Being a humble knight traversing an unknown dangerous land and encountering bosses at the end was what made it fun for me. DaS3 lacked all that.

Dark Souls 3 magic is better than Dark Souls 1, it just doesn't favour poise rollshitters and incentivizes aggressive play to get the most out of

        >poise rollshitters
        what does that even mean?
DS1 sorcery is just standing back and spamming the same spell in different sizes, who even rolled with poise for that?

DS3 sorcery is lame because you get all these cool and varied spells but they don't do more damage than a normal fricking weapon but cost a finite resource until you hit like 60 INT and then they trivialise the rest of the game.

        >Dark Souls 3 magic is better than Dark Souls 1

You get majority of good miracle spells right before the final boss. Magic in DaS3 was cucked hard. I think what made it even worse was to replenish mana or whatever the frick it was called required you to allocate your estus flasks as mana flasks. Really no point in magic in das3

DS1 was awesome, but combat was not among its best qualities. Unfortunately FromSoft picked up on the "this game is so hard lol" meme which for some reason worked as a marketing strategy. DS2 was a lazily designed, absolute piece of shit, DS3 was more polished, but at that point all of the magic of DS1 and DeS was completely lost. It's a real shame they didn't try to reboot King's Field for a more exploration focused experience, now they seem to have become too big to experiment and just focus on making action games with a very strong presentation and art design.

I know how to play far better than you, being able to cast a weapon buff twice required double slot, being able to cast sunlight spear more than 5 tines required another slot. No chance in getting any utility spell either.

          >You get majority of good miracle spells right before the final boss.
False, you get miracles as soon as Farron Keep and you get a lot of them in Irithyll Dungeon, which includes Archdragon Peak. You can also get to the DLC even before Farron and unlock dlc miracles. Meanwhile in Dark Souls 1 Sunlight Blade, one of the only 2 miracle buff for weapons, requires you to find and kill an hidden boss, and has 1 charge only and you can't acquire more. Wrath of the Gods requires to complete Reah quest in Tombs of the Giant, Emit Force to complete Anor Londo, the Gravelord Spells to obtain the Lordvessel. It's funny that newbies who didn't start with 1 don't know that miracles were always obtained at least over halfway through the original Dark Souls too, nevermind the fact that you had to farm them through multiple NG cycles. Sorcery and Pyromancy always had a smoother progression and if you picked any class for a Faith build and invested in Faith right away besides using Astora SS early you were a massive noob who had fallen for the trap.
          >Magic in DaS3 was cucked hard. I think what made it even worse was to replenish mana or whatever the frick it was called required you to allocate your estus flasks as mana flasks. Really no point in magic in das3
Mana is a massive benefit to magic as you can actually cast charges as much as you like without the incessant need to restock at a bonfire even after slotting 2 of the same spells. It just cucked morons that don't inderstand game mechanics. Mana made caster only gameplay actually possible

You can get lightning spear right before Bell Gargoyle. Same with the healing miracles. Both of which are very useful miracles to carry you through the game and then halfway through the game you get access to the ones you mentioned.

In DaS3 there's no point in using a healing miracle when you can just use estus flask since you need to replenish FP anyway

              >You can get lightning spear right before Bell Gargoyle. Same with the healing miracles.
No, you get the Lightning Spear when you have 20 Faith provided you got summoned once and defeated a boss and then cheesed the drake or ran past it to open the gate.
              >In DaS3 there's no point in using a healing miracle when you can just use estus flask since you need to replenish FP anyway

That's SL 15 for 10 charges of Lightning Spear, provided you don't level anything else and get summoned. That shit isn't carrying you anywhere, especially not to Anor Londo. In Dark Souls 3 you can actually get access to Deep, Raw and Fire weapons to reach Farron Keep and get a proper Lightning Spear that actually has charges and unlock other miracles in the same area and the one after. The only bosses you have to face are Iudex and Vordt, actually less than up to Gargoyles provided you don't make a stop for Greatwood, so your argument doesn't hold up

Why are people on Ganker so obsessed with stressing souls games are not hard?
Enemies deal a lot of damage, there's traps, bosses are deliberately made to be challenging and everyone dies a lot of times on their first playthrough. Why try to construct such a myth that this somehow isn't the case?
Always feels like a 6yo trying to lie to their parents about something really obvious.

I mean, I KNOW that Gankerners do this because souls games are popular now and commonly regarded as challenging so they are forced to state the opposite but why do this even when it's so obvious? Why not just grow out of the contrarian phase? I've been there in like 2012 so most of you must have moved on by now...

Because people like OP get filtered by the game, claim it caused him “actual suffering” then also says “it’s not even hard it’s just slop” when people tell him to git gud.
Which leaves the people defending the game to either say they found it challenging which basically makes OP automatically win the argument because he can claim the people who like it are just plebs, or they can pretend they didn’t find it challenging either and just like it because it’s fun which gives them more credibility. While if OP admits it was challenging the people telling him to Git Gud automatically win. Basically as long as their are people getting filtered by souls and making rage threads like this one everyone has to pretend they’re easy games for babies or lose the argument

Sounds like Dark Souls is too hard for your skill level, if it takes that long to get to and beat bosses.

I would recommend you play through some easier games first to rank up your gamer score, like the Legend of Zelda series.

      Anonymous

You aren't realistically assessing how long it takes to beat levels compared to how few bosses the game has. I beat the game in 40 hours and beat every boss in less than five attempts. Get on my level and stop being dishonest to defend this shitty slop game

        Anonymous

Is your map-sense that weak? Do you suck that badly at picking fights between multiple mobs? Are you under a compulsion to find every single item?

These are all weaknesses you can overcome by beating other games that lower on the skill tree.

Also, the game is still 50% shitty easy bosses (Vordt, all the sorcerer bosses, basically every boss in the first half of the game) that might as well be on par with Asylum Demon so the game is even worse than I originally said. Only the DLC had good bosses

See? That's your previous experience talking. You improved over the course of playing DS1, but you didn't notice it. So when you started playing DS3, you thought "Wow, all these bosses tuned for new players are trivial", even though they are actually more mechanically difficult than anything in DS1.

Unless you played DS3 first, and are somehow getting bodied by DS1, the easiest entry in the series.

Coincidentally you get fast travel after Anor Londo, and the areas after that aren't interconnected.

It's a tragedy that they abandoned the interconnected level design after DS1.

DS3 and even DS2 has some good level design, but it goes to waste with the isolated levels and fast travel.

Remove fast travel and connect the levels, that would immediately improve the worlds.

Can I just say that the amount of effort this game expects me to put into playing the game isn't fun to go through with because the gameplay itself is mechanically uninteresting?
There's no unique attacks that bosses do. Everything comes from the boss. The only time you use your brain is for remembering when their attacks launch if they are holding it back to trip you up and which attacks you have to be away from the boss for rather than close up because it swings faster than you can roll. There's no arena hazards, most of the fights have zero interesting terrain (respect Crystal Sage & Dragonslayer Armor for this though), of course most bosses are immune to status effects, magic sucks, and I have to spend most of the boss fight waiting. Fromsoft had so many years to learn how to do different kinds of boss fights better and they've only streamlined and casualized the experience so they can design encounters around the thing that everyone does (fast roll pace low commitment 2hr1 combat) instead of making more ways to play interesting, you know, like how any good fricking RPG does.
I don't know what it is about this game that just makes my mind glaze over and stop fricking caring about the fights but I am far more invested in fights like Manus and twin Dragonrider than I am the likes of Pontiff who I just roll my eyes as he does some silly move. I haven't even attempted Midir because I just know the only mildly interesting attack he does is the Shin Godzilla ripoff attack because From was completely creatively bankrupt with Souls games at this point in time.

Actiongays have been a disaster for the Souls series. You had Dragon's Dogma and Monster Hunter, why didn't you play that instead?

tl;dr shit's boring, man, the only innovation from bosses had in the 7 years of souls games before DaS3 was more anime attack combos and phase 2s for every fight, game's made for fast roll 2hr1 and using anything else is to spite the devs and their boss design because they refuse to make anything that could really contest someone kiting the boss or make someone worry about their positioning beyond how far away they are from the guy

Playing the Dark Souls trilogy made me realize I hate action game combat just on an intrinsic level.
If From Soft had made the game only about exploration and solving esoteric quests, it would have still been amazing.
No one has any argument against this, they just want to have this dedicated "uber hard" series to make part of their identity.

The studio peaked with Eternal Ring on the PS2 and ever since then it's been a constant downward trend.
