I mean I played it recently and just didn't like how empty and dead everything seemed. You run through that village for the tiny people and every house is empty, then huge hallways, then dead ends and backtracking

As someone who is playing both on Retroarch, Banjo wins on the music, variety, humor, characters, abilities and non-linearity front. Rayman 2 might be a bit more polished on the micro level but that's kinda it

no, rayman 2 mogs the shit out of banjo, hows this

supposed to be better than this

rayman has top tier music that fits with the environment and the music changes and progresses in real time.
the art style is really good and nothing seems
"out of place", the textures and lightning are really good, theres a lot of minigames and other stuffs, like in one level you'll be riding a rocket plane and in another level you'll be driving a big ass ship.

rayman is really the best 3d platformer

and I hope ur playing the dc version

Even in this cherrypicked comparison the Banjo music is better with a more unique use of instruments and the simpler, more memorable melody, proper to a video game

Well everyone disagrees with you, it's one of the most beloved games of all time, one of the most cited reasons is the music, Banjo's soundtrack has like 4 million clicks on Youtube while Rayman 2's has like 300k and the Rayman 2 composer is a literally who:

As an italian, Gekido: Urban Fighters has to be the most prideful game out there considering that these italian devs managed to make a decent Street of Rage clone out of a very tight budget.
Unless there are other italian-made /vr/ games that i don't know of that are just as good or better than it.

      >all rare's games play and look like they're american games.
That's because in Europe we mostly consume American entertainment, so when Yuro's make entertainment they're heavily influenced by America.

        Anonymous

But why? Don't you have your own cultures? Japan doesn't copy America, despite being occupied.

          Anonymous

          >But why?
Because that anon is kinda full of shit and that remark mostly applies to video games. And one of the big reasons for that is that there weren't any european actor when it comes to hardware. The closest there have been were electronics company making computers in the DOS era and a bunch of them were just locally built versions of licensed american templates. That's mostly because it's hard to grow large enough to cover all the necessary R&D when your potential market is a lot smaller than that of the US or when you aren't massively subsidized the way japanese electronics companies were. So no one was large enough to produce much. Amstrad and Sinclair tried but that alone wasn't enough to create an ecosystem distinct and large enough in Europe. It doesn't help that consumer technological lag was very real in plenty of places in Europe : a lot of local electronics companies were slow to adopt new formats and importing was too pricey for many. So if you lived in Italy, Portugal, Spain, parts of France or Germany in the 90s, you'd be mostly surrounded by 80s tech. In the 2000s, the Eurozone ended up making importing much easier too.
That mostly leaves devs. Some have pretty actively tried to make somewhat distinctive types of games. Think Quantum Games or Eric Chahi's games with an emphasis on narrative and stripped-down gameplay. There is also a whole scene of computer devs in eastern Europe, which was especially active in the years after the fall of the USSR when the markets there opened and your average Ivan could get a computer that isn't an east-german Robotron piece of shit.
          tl;dr :
          >pre-Eurozone disparate market made it impossible for local tech to grow in a unique way, no one was big enough to do unique hardware (save for maybe Sinclair or the Minitel project)
          >tech penetration among consumers took forever
          >the devs that try to grow unique local stuff usually end up with bombs or pretty niche success

            Anonymous

There used to be totally distinct videogame design cultures from European countries, but they were killed by globalism. Games became so expensive to make that to recoup their costs they had to be designed to appeal to the common denominator, which thanks to American global hegemony ends up being for some loathesome Californian caricature.
This is why modern culture is so terminally boring. The nips are hanging on, but the cost of doing business means eventually they will have cultural regime change forced on them too.

Pic related, a game so good Americans kept trying to kill the fricking thing to the point it had to be made in secret.

I'm quite fond of Bits Studios' Spider-Man: Return of the Sinister Six (1992/NES) based on the comic book story arc of the same name, which was published in The Amazing Spider-Man from issues #334 to #339, though it's loosely based really, even if the instruction manual does attempt at drawing more parallels between them. Of course it's not exactly fondly remembered, even if it's the only NES Spider-Man video game, but I grew up with it and I'm biased, I'll admit it right now... controls aren't all that good, and it does feel somewhat generic, with Spider-Man's powers being underused, also suffers from level design dropping significantly in quality after you're done with the first 3 levels. Still, it plays fine, has a grim and involving atmosphere thanks to both the graphics and OST, it's satisfying to see enemies explode when defeated, especially with satisfying SFX... and level desing in the first 3 levels is interesting to navigate, fun to play.
