>not having 64?
I legit wonder if I should get 64 gigs ?
Currently I have 32 gigs amd optimized 3600mhz
I could buy another 32 gigs for 109 since it's on sale or if I should start building a new PC
Current rig is :
5800x
Rx 6800 XT
32 gigs ram @ 3600
1 tb Samsung SSD
2 tb nvme
2tb crucial SSD
The way stuff sounds
my CPU might go obsolete first especially since it would bottle neck anything around 4090 tier
>32GB on AM4
Unless you intend on upgrading to the 5800X3D and skipping DDR5 entirely, save the 64GB upgrade for DDR5 platforms.
Kek that's where I'm stuck
Would it be worth going to 5800x 3d if I was gonna stay with am4 I would prefer to go 5950x
It may be worse in games but at least I get more cores
Or just jump to an Intel ddr 5 build
why
do
you
need
more
cores?
I'm dum and I just want them
I'm sorry !!
I like opening task manager and just looking at them
I grew up with 4/4 thread pcs seeing more just feels nice
was just asking and don't be sorry you're anoymoose
its
not
about
need
its
about
want
why
are
wants
bad?
I jumped from a 2700X to 5800X3D. That's worth it. 5800X->5800X3D/5950X? Not so worth it. I'd hold onto AM4 for a couple years, stay at 32GB and when DDR5 has sped up and latencies ahve come down, buy a 3D vcache model that doesn't exist yet.
It's a next gen title. The consoles are running 3070-equivalents. The 1080Ti (Q1 2017) is 20% slower than the 3070 in pure rasterization. Get with the times and catch up with the current gen consoles at least Mr. mustard race
If it did, the extra 16GB is doing the heavy lifting. 64GB does frick all unless you're into major productivity tasks.
>The consoles are running 3070-equivalents
Most incorrect post on Ganker right now
Bruh those fricking things don't even approach a 3060
Again, I'll stick with Digital Foundry as a source.
ok Anon. You do that.
HOLY FRICK BTFO
GET DABBED ON b***h
That's a PS4 game running on PS5. Try comparing a native PS5 game.
>That's a PS4 game running on PS5
So shouldn't it be able to run a PS4 game at high settings 60+fps at 1440p?
How fricking weak are consoles exactly?
Because the PS5 is literally playing it on "PS4 mode" The code wasn't updated to run at 60fps on PS5. A better comparison would be Assassin's Creed Vahalla, Cyberpunk or Callisto Protocol.
That's moronic.
>I'll stick with Digital homosexualry as a source
Next time when you watch one of their videos clench your butthole tighter because you're talking out of your ass.
Consoles cgpus do reach 3060, . However due to them not having dedicated rtx cores(xbox has 8, PS5 does not have them at all vs 28 RT cores for 3060) and being RDNA 2.0 they can never run RTX and 60 FPS mode
Ratchet and Clank has a 60 fps RT mode. PS5 is at least strong enough to get 60fps with ray tracing if the developers are competent. Dunno about Xbox,
Metro exodus is 4k/60 w rt on xbox, so same story there
RAM is the cheapest easiest shit to upgrade why wouldnt you have 32gb minimum already
If you have 100 tabs open at all times you want minimum 32gb of ram
Yeah Chrome alone takes like 10
It uses 2 GB on my laptop that has 8 GB and uses 10 GB on my desktop with 32 GB. I don't known why it's like this, but just seems like programs hog more if it's available.
Seems like the longer a program is open, the more ram it eats up
iuf you have a program that does that file a bug report to the developer they shouldnt do that
It's because it saves a lot of the old tabs RAM usage to disk inside the page file, when there is not a lot of free RAM to spare. It makes it a bit slower to return to, though
That is how it's supposed to work. If you have free RAM it should be used. This is also what leads to schizos buying 128GB RAM because they think they NEED it lol.
What's the point of having hundreds of tabs open? I like seeing my tabs and being able to navigate between them and I have a history if I need to find some old shit I forgot about
That's called a memory leak and it's not normal
>That's called a memory leak and it's not normal
it's the new normal (thanks pajeets/chinks)
Have tabs separated into different windows by site/topic so you can still see what you need on top. Have an extension that allows you to search through all open tabs and swap to them instantly by typing a few letters of the page name like vimium. Have different desktop workspaces you swap through with preset windows displayed in each for a group of topics.
t. massive tab hoarder
That still doesn't answer what's the point of them. Just use bookmarks.
Oh right, forgot to answer that. It's because I leave things open for later. For example I have a news desktop I jump to if I want local and world news on the left and right or a tech workspace where I have the archwiki open as well as whatever I was trying to fix on the right. Or a finance page with markets on the left and more info on the right. It's just faster to leave them up instead of setting everything up again every time.
Yea I still don't get it. If I want news I will just go and check it, no need to have the tab open 24/7.
I can neither see names nor icons on my chrome tabs, and still fine with 16GB
8 years ago I could have a hundred taps open with 4 GB of ram, but then they really started bloating up browsers.
I have 16gb and with firefox i can have 7900 tabs of hentai and nothing happens. I can close it, open it, restore previous session and get all 7900, only when trying to open 8000 does it crash
because having faster ram is better than simply having more ram. nobody with a brain is gonna take 32gb ddr over 16gb ddr4 or 5 at twice the speed.
My PC is 6 years old (i7 7700K). I'm not going to buy DDR4 RAM when I'm close to upgrading to something new with DDR5.
Unless you intend to upgrade within the next 12 months, you really should. Even if you lost half the memory's resale value ($25) it's only a $50 upgrade.
While working from home when I have nothing else better to do. Cope.
I recently dumped my 7700k for a 5800X3D, you are in for a treat.
I dun owned them libs by buying a game I can't play!
>year of the lord 2023
>PC gaming
LoL, lmao even
>Low IQ christcuck is also a console baby.
Not surprised, but you shouldn't flaunt your stupidity.
>Godless Black personhomosexual is a foreveralone PC cuck
Everytime
>if you’re not a god on a stick cuck you’re godless…
>NOOOOOOOOO! THOSE OTHER “””RELIGIONS””” DON’T COUNT!!!!!!!!
Florida third worlders really are something…
I still play on a laptop with 3GB.
'member when games got optimized
And this will be on The Switch? Is that why Switch version is coming out later? Because they actually have to optimize it to get it to run?
I have 32 GB and have never needed it so far honestly. I always double RAM on PC upgrades, I had 16 GB las time so I got 32 when I upgraded last year having to go from DDR3 to DDR4. First time it never felt like it was worth it, I could have just got 16 again and then threw another 16 into the slots. I doubt I'll need 64 before doing a mobo upgrade.
How in the frick did games suddenly jump from 8 to 32?
they didn't. ~~*recommended*~~ pc specs account for all the stuff you leave multi tasking in the background, like chrome, discord and shiet
but it needs 16?
Steam page says 16 so I don't get it? Is it just for 4k textures or something?
phew glad I upgraded when I built my new rig
I've had 32GB for years prior to it being necessary and I'll have 64GB years before that becomes necessary too. Holdouts deserve the bottleneck. Memory is cheap as frick.
>6800xt for 1080p ultra
jesus christ
>recommends 32
>minimum 16
>actually uses 8
Every time.
Enjoy the microstutter homosexual
You people are just as dumb as anyone still running a hard drive for gaming.
Nah, I actually know how to use computers so I don't have to overcompensate.
>I know how to use computers
Nice cope. Post specs so I can laugh poorgay.
>playing tripple A in the year 2023 of our lord
you probably also got the clot shot, you dumb cattle.
>you probably also got the clot shot

How does it feel to know that I am smarter than you, happier than you, richer than you and will statistically live longer than you? Cope.
Luminous has always been demanding.
download more ram, champ
Why are you redirecting me to pol? I'm not the one calling a life saving vaccine the "clot shot". Doesn't prevent infection but it sure as shit makes it a hell of a lot less deadly. TWO MORE WEEKS
>Why are you redirecting me to pol?
because you're talking about politics shit and baffling as to why but you're continuing to do so
VIDEO GAMES is what the thread is about
You're posting here. You're not rich or happy.
Don't do any strenuous exercise, anon. I hear the climate change is especially hard on the heart. Particularly vaxxed hearts.
I know you gays like to ignore evidence but it's literally right there in the post you replied to.

ARMA, Star Citizen, *insert Total War game*
arma only requires a couple gigs of ram. it's cpu bottlenecked because BI cant code for shit. they're still using a fricking LAN network model for multiplayer ffs
lol going to 32 from 16 isn't going to fix the microstutter man
They know you Black folk will have a hundred other things open using up RAM.
How awful are the load times gonna be? Or performance in general. The throughput of SATA II cables is like 300 MB/s. Filling up up to 32 GB with that, wew.
kek ok bait I'll be seeing how you do with it
Just buy two 16 sticks of ddr4 3600
It's like a hundo.
Do it now before it goes up.
okay, I just wont play those games
16gb is still fine for now but in time 32gb will become the norm!
i'm unironically still on 8gb
same I haven't upgraded for years other than 1 extra 1 tb hdd
All the best games these days are AA indie shit with meh graphics.
If a game requires more than 16 gigs of ram then it's simply not worth my time
This shit is a grift isn't it? Forspoken looks like shit, they should just optimize it.
huh?
>5700XT or 1080ti for high 60 fps
Is this a joke?
if you where not blind moronic and desewrving of being burnt alive you would see its for low definition (1080p)
Yea, I know, frickface.
Is that a joke?
>The consoles are running 3070-equivalents
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA
More like a 5600XT.
>AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA
>More like a 5600XT.
Yeah I'll stick with Digital Foundry as a source rather than you anon no offense.
no its not a joke a 5700xt is old now welcome to the passage of time
Ultra settings which Steam doesn't display requires 32gb
Didn't Returnals recc specs go down to 16GB?
I feel like these are just becoming placeholders.
Huh it did, weird
>32 giganigamigabaits
fog off
>16 nigamigafiggabites
medium textures
>8 bibamibabibabytes
still trying to figure out the whole ssd scam. how long is 'long loading times'? everything loads under 20secs on my oldass hdd and thats like main menu/load game loads ie the longest one
>still trying to figure out the whole ssd scam. how long is 'long loading times'? everything loads under 20secs on my oldass hdd and thats like main menu/load game loads ie the longest one
I bet you're the kind of homosexual that says you can't tell the difference between 1080p and 4K and 60hz vs 240hz
I'm not the one that brought up the shot. Suck my entire wiener you disingenuous homosexual.
>60hz vs 240hz
This is hard one, when i switched 60->144 i didn't feel the difference at all, now if I switch back to 60 I see it very well
I've already upgraded my RAM. I might even go solo some MMOs over at ragezone.
>highprofile pc game
>multiplat port
RAM aren't so expensive unlike GPU and 32GB isn't ridiculously big at all
>tfw jumped from 16 to 64 gigs a few months ago
Did it make you happy?
yes
>implying i kept the 16GB
i can tell you really know nothing about computers
Not a single game is worth 32gb of ram let alone 16gb of ram. Get over yourselves PC chuds.
>Not a single game is worth 32gb of ram let alone 16gb of ram
nice copepost poorgay
Name 3 games that require 32 gigs of ram you consider worthy
No game requires 32 GB of RAM.
No game needs more than 16gb.
Uhm, it's a test of character? A moral dilemma? Like Karma in New Vegas. You either donate your money to a trans-charity (good karma), or you selfishly spend it on J.K.'s Genocide Simulator (wrong choice, even in evil plathroughs).
for the love of god 32 gigs of DDR4 costs like 80 bucks if youy get non RGB bullshit
and if you bought into DDR5 way too early even thats only like 140 stop whining or get a job
>pajeets can't code for shit
>I'm the one that is expected to take responsibility
Nah, I just won't play your garbage.
I hate unreal engine so much
How does it feel to know that Fortnite is PC's best looking game currently?
oh no i have to update my PC sometimes? oh god its the engines fault
Yes. Unreal engine is shitty bloatware.
i still don't know what ram does.
it holds data that is needed for rapid access but isnt video card shit (vram). rendered video game shit is in vram but the menu is in ram and the xml files that were loaded into ram are on hard drive
Reading from disk is slow (especially spinning disks holy shit)
Reading from RAM is much faster
Programs will load from disk into RAM so that you have a smooth experience and not hitch or stall
Games especially will load tons of assets up front into general RAM and VRAM as well as cache things on demand for smooth operation
I got 2x8. What if I just add 1x16gb more?
no do not mix ram capacities
Why?
because its a very bad idea and some boards will outright refuse to do it
You'll have 32 gigs, you'll lose some performance by not going dual channel but it doesn't matter all that much
no- its not a good idea to mix ram capacity/speeds
stick to identical sticks
As long as it's the same brand, voltage and frequency it doesn't matter
it does one stick will run slower than its capable of to match the other
Just overclock them all to the same speed.
overclocking is still a bad idea
Dude, you ever opened a PC in your life? I bet you think heatsinks for RAM does anything.
i built my PC i still dont ovcerclock if i wanted faster hardware i would haqve bought faster hardware i bet you are the kind of person who doesnt make sure all his power plugs are in all the way then whines about fires
homie what's the fricking point when you gain 2-3 frames at best. OC'ing is for autists.
There is a point if you care about memory sticks being the same speed.
Just buy 2 sticks with matching specs then instead of being an autist buying 1 stick
>consume more space even though you don't have to
You people are blinded by rules.
>consume more space
the frick are you talking about? you put the new sticks in and sell the old sticks to soemone who will use them/put them into your self buuilt NAS this isnt difficult and these " rules" exist for a reason do you not use thermal paste?
There is no reason to go 2x8+16
There are no motherboards that only have 3 DIMM slots
Why would you not go 4x8 which is simple and just works?
You are proposing bad solutions for uncessary problems that you yourself created
>Why would you not go 4x8 which is simple and just works?
Because later I can just buy one 16gb. I don't have time to go looking for a buyer for the old sticks.
you literally post them on craigslist/facebook marketplace and wait till you get an offer
ACKHTYEUALLLY there was a whole generation of three channel intel cpus and their associated motherboards.
Thought those were always 6 DIMM boards?
3 channels = 3 DIMMS no matter how many DIMMS they put on the board
oh yeah probably
if you care about ram sticks being the same speed buy two sticks that are the same speed and its NOT called memory irsa called RAM you moron ram literalyl stands for " random access memory"
No it won't as long as the specs are the same, you can use whatever combination of stick you want, go 8+8+16, 16+16, 8+8+8+8, doesn't matter all that much
yes it does never ever mix ram sticks
>32GB@6400Mz
that shit is basically free, what are you waiting for?
This really seems like the kind of game that you want to sell to hr ladies with shit laptops and not the kind of people who have 32gb ram and graphics cards.
>game where you can run around murderiung classmates
>for HR ladies
>he thinks he'll be able to use unforgivables outside of scripted scenes
RAM is so fricking cheap, why haven't you already bought 16GB extra for $60 already?
(DDR4 of course, DDR5 is another story)
>24GB to make people mad
I recently doubled my ram to 32. I'm probably only getting limited improvement though since I'm still on a 1070 and i7 8700. As good as they've been to me, rest of the hardware is showing its age.
The laptop I'm posting from has 16GB of RAM so I'd be surprised if anyone with a dedicated gaming PC didn't have at least twice as much.
>games won't actually improve in visuals but will require a higher component ceiling
it's bad enough that certain games won't run on older cards because they lack a certain feature only available on newer gpus. hopefully we're not headed towards a future where 2-3 year upgrades are mandatory if you want to play the latest titles.
>it's bad enough that certain games won't run on older cards because they lack a certain feature
there was a time when this was the norm and cards would literally get double or more performance every year or so
ya sure games visuals would upgrade to match it but itsb not like this is the first time in history this has been the case
>glide wrapper
honestly, worth all the fricking moronation and hassle
nowadays its not worth shit when everything looks the same but runs worse because optimization is a lost art
we will eventually reach the "uncanny valley" point in graphics where it outpaces the consumer standard and the gaytracing meme dies.
no we won't not in anyone here's lifetime . we're getting very stagnated progress due to min maxing profits of consoles. easier to do Nintendo route and shit out 12 fps games and cucks eager to buy and play them and call their trash games like botw Zelda ubisoft edition the best game ever.
even the most basic thing like light is impossible for these trash game devs and they ruin performance entirely trying to just simulate basic reflections lol. you gays are so delusional when it comes to progress thinking well have ai cars with ai jobs lol we can't even have cars that don't steer towards the median and kill you
I can finally play all my favorite porn VN without issue now
I have 64gb of RAM and EA launcher just froze my fricking computer.
are you sure it was for filling up ram?
It was just them loading an af for DLC while I was starting a game. Also my razor thing is fricked.
>3000fps last game session
Almost everyone with 16GB has 2x8 so just buy more if needed. Besides 99.9% of the games are not still going to need more.
I guess devs can't be fricked to fix memory leaks and consumers gonna consume more ram. I wonder how long until they jack the prices up on ram too.
should I turn off pagefile?
how much ram do you have installed?
32gb
ya you will be fine removing your page file
show me a game that uses at least 16 gigs
>make game that looks no better than games from 2015
>up the requirements and call it next gen
Can't wait for 64gb req in 2028.
by 2028 64 gigs will be a paltry amount of ram that even the cheapest of laptops comes with
I always buy more RAM because its cheap and I want to be able to max my chrome tabs and game and do other shit without worrying. here's a picture of me
Just use Auto Tab Discard, gigachad.
Guys, I have 8gb switchable and 8gb soldered in my gaming(tm) laptop, I'm not sure I want to find out the cost of 1 slot 32gb so-dimm piece
it would probably be slower anyway in that setup
Woe is me I won't be able to play modern AAA trash
Bloat and bad coding, theres no reasonable excuse for it taking 32GB
>me with 64GB of ram for the last 6 years
my time has come, I'm ready
I still have 8
I finally just got a second stick of 16gb yesterday after putting it off for months because prices just kept dropping. Took me an hour to get xmp working properly though, when did Asus motherboards become so shit?
RAM requirements are a fricking israeli trick. We used to play MMOs on 4GB RAM not that long ago. There is no way modern games legitimately require that much RAM.
It is only for the best experience at the highest settings.
When did developers stop caring about actually optimising their games?
And this is just the first wave of next gen only games. Your $2000 RTX 4090s will struggle to get even 30 fps in games 4-5 years from now without running them at 1080p low.
Actually I just looked it up and it’s not even a next gen only game. It’s releasing on last gen consoles and Switch (!) as well. Just wtf is happening to PC gaming?
>tfw 4x4gb
Should i get two 16gb ddr4 sticks or wait for ddr5 to get cheaper? I don't want to change my whole motherboard and cpu right now.
>runs on a ps4
With ini tweaks it only needs 4.
