definitely the weakest part of MGS3
not only that, but the cutscenes were stale, all dialogue was generic and felt that they didn’t write a conversation but just singular lines and then put them together

MGS2 has fantastic engaging cutscenes, codec calls and dialogue in general. I know them all by heart yet I can’t skip anything despite replaying the game countless times. Also the music and SFX are the best

Ironically the game where everybody complained that there’s no Snake actually had the best Snake

No. It was criticizing the culture of Japan in the Y2K years, where shit like forums, image boards and chatrooms were already a common thing, and already spreading misinformation and cherry-picked opinions.

Burgers THINK that this shit was some kind of profound prediction, because they only got their first social media counterparts over half a decade later.

        >2001 game accurately predicted this cursed timeline we're in
        >doesn't mention israelites

Reading the patriots as "muh israelites" shows you weren't paying attentions.
The Patriots are the ethos of an interconnected society. The joke of the game is they're all already dead ("They all died... a hundred years ago.") and that their ideas are still being used to control people's opinions and thoughts on current, past, or future events. Raiden ultimately wants to "be" Snake, but his idea of Snake is the ethos-approved idea, the legendary soldier who took down Big Boss and Shadow Moses single-handedly, and Snake tells him to form his own will.
The game also isn't ultimately about AI control but the inevitability of homogenization on a global forum, and maintaining individuality. This is also why Raiden is just another Grey Fox in MGS4, because MGS4 is a game about Kojima failing to get his ideas across. Raiden, the player insert, misunderstood Snake (Kojima) and ultimately tried to follow in Snake's footsteps instead of living his own life (which is why he's separate from Rose, who had to leave him because he'd be targeted by the Patriots).

MGS2 was the conclusion, MGS4 was not only made long after the fact (though the Patriots reveal was transparently planned since 3, likely a Shuya Murata addition since he was originally set to direct 4), but Kojima didn't plan to be deeply involved.
So, [withing MGS2] the Patriots are what I described. In MGS4, they're more commentary on current wars in the world and the progression that it's moving towards (wars as a primary mover of the economy) as well as reflection on Kojima's own failures (video games being used as propaganda tools or tools to inspire military enlistment).

They're not cliffhangers. When Otacon finds out that the patriots are dead the idea is that we haven't been directly fighting them but their "meme". They already won a 100 years ago, long before the game even started and the only way to fight back is to think of yourself, decide what you find important and try to pass that on to others. The only people who think the ending is a cliffhanger are people who can only think of a story in terms of a linear plot.

And that's why we got MGS4. I remember when that game was still in development and reading interviews with Kojima and you can tell that he fricking hated the fanbase at the time and those interviews, and the finished game itself, is filled with bile and anger against the MGS fanbase. The only reason Kojima started getting happy working with MGS again was by just turning the later games into wahtever idea he was interested in at the time. Peace Walker was made because he wanted to make a Monster Hunter clone for his kid, MGSV was made because he wanted to do his own take on the open-world formula.

Actually that's just cut content. The original idea was that Snake would be fighting Ocelot in the background while Raiden is fighting Solidus, complete with split-screen cutscenes similar to those of MGS4 but these where cut due to hardware limitations. It's all in the games design document.

This anon is correct btw. The main theme of MGS2 was "meme" and the whole idea of the patriots are that they are a meme (in the original sense of the word) having been propagated through the collective subconscious over time. If you read interviews from Kojima around the time of MGS4 you can clearly tell that he is tired of the series and filled with spite against the fanbase who kept hating on the supernatural aspects of the franchise while sending him death threats for not churning out more MGSslop. I think a lot of people have forgotten it nowadays but back in the day people genuinely hated the supernatural elements of MGS2 and 3 which is why 4 just explains it away with nanomachines (and 5 with the parasite thing). Gamers of the time genuinely saw MGS1 as some straight spythriller and got filtered when Kojima upped the supernatural stuff in 2 and 3.

Daily reminder that this is a bad translation of the original Japanese and Agnes Kaku is a hack fraud who blames Kojima for her own translation errors. In general MGS2 contains tons of beginner translation errors in comparison to MGS3 onwards. It's an awful translation job and just like Blaustein (who pretends he came up with the HALO jump even though he didn't work on MGS3) she has to lie to cover up her mistakes.

Deus Ex and MGS2 use similar themes to different ends. MGS2 is a post-modern game about identity inspired by Paul Austers New York Trilogy, Deus Ex is a more conventional narrative about the consolidation of corporations and governments at the expense of individuals filtered through popular conspiracy theories of the 90s (which was a popular trend in pop-culture at the time).
