No way bro. There is an optimized route with the teleports that doesn't involve sequence breaking that allows you to get the under 4 hour time. I unlocked the whole gallery without sequence breaking at all.
>I was expecting this to generate the same kind of speedrunning autism that Super did way back when. I guess the industry and culture are just different now.
It's because the game is too fluid. Practising one frame tricks in Super isn't so bad because of the lower frate rate, but doing the same at 60fps when the entire two hour run depends on it is just asinine.
I still replay Super, Zero Mission and Dread on the regular. Prime 2 as well. These games are just so tightly made, polished, and terse enough for me to replay. There are fewer Metroidvannias I could say that about, either they're too big (e.g.: Hollow Knight) or don't have enough for me to keep replaying like fun movement or cool shit (recent example of this I've played recently is something like Momodora 4).
there aren't many games that really play like them, even among castletroids, tightness of a sidescroller, shooting in all eight directions, the possibility of digging through every single square tile of the environment.
Blaster Master Zero games have plenty of shootan but I wouldn't call them Metroid like. I guess it's easier to code swords or whatever instead of a bunch of different guns.
I blame Hollow Knight
Fuck that game seriously. It was overall good, but the combat was a snoozefest pin poke spam. Because it had the """soulslike""" experience and was so successful and popular, everyone has been trying to copy it making most of the metroidvania/castletroids over the last few years absolutely soulless
It wouldn't even have to be scifi themed exactly like Metroid. Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth had the same exact aiming system as Dread and a bunch of magic bows with neat properties. Some were seeking, some were like shotguns, some were high velocity with piercing arrows, but they were all secondary weapons to your swords, spears, etc.
there's that alien metroidvania on the ds unfortunately it make the unforgivable choice to have no jumping mechanic in a sidescroller, would have been much better as an overhead game.
It's been over a decade since I last played Aliens Infestation but I didn't know what people saw in that game. All the different marines were just palette swaps and functionally extra lives with maybe some different dialogue and the end of it all was a damage sponge boss that abruptly cuts to the credits. Felt like there was a lot of lost potential.
its boring because the fast travel is just a big long tube instead of a real metroidvania. and you dont even get to 'fast' travel through it until a point in the game anyway so you just awkwardly platform througha tube. plus the game has a ton of backtracking with no payoff. like in other games youll have to progress through an area without a high jump and its a challenge. then you get the high jump and when you backtrack again its super easy but enemies might fuck you up. verge didnt really do anything like that so you just platform the same screens over and over again.
definitely worth playing but id say its very safe to drop if you dont like it.when i heard it got a sequel i had 0 interest. weird because i was super hype about the game from trailers
Are there any modern platformers that are more Metroid like? Almost all of them seem to focus on melee combat for some reason.
forgoat about ESA, that ones more metroid 1 over super though
used to think that but people is unironically this basic when comes to games, wouldn't surprise me is the same people that defend Halo because of the story.
Metroid prime 3 was terrible and the ultra beam a ridiculously retarded mechanic.
It was so overpowered that you didnt have to make use of any gamemechanic like stealing the enemies shield.
You can just burst it with megabeam while depleating your own health without any kind of punishment.
The button tap to balance your overload ultrabeam meter up was peak cringe aswell.
Only metroid prime i didnt even bother to complete
probably. he couldn't even get the word except right.
If you're getting upset over typos then you should start writing properly yourself, cringe tendie
First time I played super was in 2013 when the Wii U had it on sale for 30 cents, ever since I've played through it at least five times and thinking about doing a sixth playthrough pretty soon
I'm old as shit, so I like the 2D ones starting from Super.
Didn't like the Prime series because using the gamecube controller in FPS games is fucking ass, and wagglan controls are somehow even worse.
Dread was so good I actually felt bad for pirating it and almost wanted to buy a copy even though I don't even have a Switch. That's when you know a game is good.
I replay it for fun still. Its just a good metroid game, doomed to be replayed by me every few months forever like all of them.
Super is still better but thats just nature.
can't believe zoomers are so mindbroken by eternal live service battlepass skinner boxes that the idea of playing a game, enjoying it, finishing it, then playing a different game is completely incomperhensible
There's also the Flash Step,, Varia Suit, and I think something else to round out the options. I remember there being something like 5 things. up to the point of Kraid.
There's also the Flash Step,, Varia Suit, and I think something else to round out the options. I remember there being something like 5 things. up to the point of Kraid.
I like how the game changes when you get speed booster. It's the point where everything opens up, both in the intended sequence and sequence breaking.
Upper Burenia and Ghavoran being full of shinespark puzzles and grapple walls was great, it felt like you'd got a huge upgrade to your movement options, and the game really makes you feel the difference.
I don't think I use any. VisualBoyAdvance had Bilinear on default which made it blurry so I disabled it. The game looks a bit washed-out though, idk if that's normal
I played it and enjoyed it a lot. I'll probably replay it in a few years and enjoy it again.
I've played Dread about 17 times in all, with two of the times involving 100 percent runs. The GBA titles were a staple for me growing up and it feels like I rekindled a relationship with a very old friend
I'm liking it so far, alot more than NES at least. There are quite some differences already. Beginning still kinda slow but the same can be said for every Metroid.
If you feel bad about using the hint system, I didn't even know you could turn it off and it constantly activated because I was slow as hell. the one time in MP2 I went to the opposite side of the map only to be told that I missed something at the bottom of Torvus Bog pissed me the hell off, fuck
where did you get stuck? i remember getting stuck around the phazon mines when I first played it
After you get the spider ball you go to the room in the temple with the Chozo statue and fight the ghost Chozo. I had no idea what to do after the statue throws you onto that platform.
yeah I got stuck because I thought you needed all three beams to shoot all of them to progress, wandered around for like 2 hours looking for another way forward lol

Same. I’m a zoomer and tried to play this game without a guide to better get the experience of playing it on launch. I guess you would have just bought the guide or asked your friends at that point.
Why is Metroid Dread sold for full price?
It’s a low budget game from a small studio.
I have no issue with shorter, less ambitious titles, but they should be as expensive as a AAA game.
Hollow Knight is just for reference, pretty much any indie Metroidvania is more worthwhile than Metroid Dread.
nintendo hates selling their IP's for less than 60 dollars
secondly, you cant look at a game by its time. most people dont 100% complete games. I would rather play a game thats short and sweet, and then replay the hell out of that game, getting better and better
Where are they even going to take the plot from here? The Chozo/metroid plot was just finished up, so it'll just end up being another "Ooh, the villains want to kidnap Samus for her metroid DNA!" plot.
I hope they redo the metroid suit if they ever bring it back. I like the concept of a monster girl suit, but it just didn't really tick off feeling like a metroid to me.
They missed a massive opportunity to have the pauldrons look like the metroid membranes IMO.
New alien empire is making a move against the Fed's and Samus has to infiltrate their planet to shut them down. Find and replace species name for sequel plots.
We just learned that Raven Beak was: >A prolific fighter >Not averse to putting his DNA into other creatures to see what happened
Have a clone or something with a chunk of his DNA make a power grab. Give us a big bad in the exact same position as Samus, learning and integrating Chozo tech as they find it, just on the other side morally.
We'l probably have a cliche "Evil opposite rival" next, with some other character injecting themself with metroid DNA and samus having to stop them as they godmode with their metroid power.
Cliche is not bad. I wanna see it happen. So long as the game doesn't start and end with the outwardly stated conflict being "someone's after Samus's metroid DNA", I'm good.

It wasn't purged, it was just put back "under control" in her system from robe's DNA.
It was the equivilent of having an allergy shot but not getting rid of the underlying allergy. She still has metroid DNA, its just not raging out of control in "Drain everything dry and have Vore instincts" mutation mode.

I wonder if the series is building towards some super soldier arms race. Samus already had Chozo DNA, but now you have Metroid powers on top of that, which proved to be extremely powerful. In fact it was such a powerful combo that Raven Beak decided to clone Samus herself instead of trying to make Metroids from her DNA. Maybe this leads to the feds or some other faction ejecting their troops with alien DNA.
just make up some new aliens or mutants for samus to blast, metroid doesn't need big overarching lore and lots of pointless worldbuilding for wiki autists to capture what makes the games good.
>Science Team >Sylux >Kriken Empire >whoever made Kanden >Spire and the missing diamants >Ylla and N'Kren >Monks of Grondheim >Miteralis, the Global Exterminator Virus
Dread itself gave us a potential new enemy with the Excelion Star Corporation. There's plenty of already existing lore to play with.
How can one replace the other when aesthetically they are worlds apart? Does the style and presentation mean nothing to you?
I'm not even saying one is better than the other, just that they are not even comparable other than being in the same genre.
>being in the same genre
They're not even the same genre, Metroidvanias are a literal mixup of elements found in both Castlevania and Metroid games, but all games in both franchises are a genre on their own.
Not only is it still canon, it got direct reference in two completion rewards, one of which is card amongst the mainline entries of the series. Thinking about it, because it's labeled Metroid 3.5, perhaps they consider it a numbered entry.
No, there's an actual, labeled reward card representing Other M- by name- amongst the end rewards that include a card for each mainline entry: Metroid, Metroid 2, Super, Fusion, and Other M each get them. Also, the final reward with Adam actually IS notable in that it uses his Other M design.
Sakamoto doesnt talk about other M anymore and it got brushed past real fast in the retrospective too. Even the art in Dread doesnt depict Samus as weak or a cry baby. She is ready to kill Ridley, I think even Sakamoto knows he fucked up but he cant really do much about it or doesnt wanna admit it out loud.
It wasn't very good. There were some interesting ideas though (like the different abilities), but...
>E.M.M.I were just a poor mans SA-X and overstayed their welcome (being one shot by them in a QTE was also retarded) >The music was largely forgettable and bad (a crime considering the series' reputation) >Environments were far too similar and boring. >Mechanics from Super Metroid (a game from 1994) STILL didn't return (can't turn off equipment you want, no secret weapon combos, no charge beam multi-bombs e.t.c.) >Game felt far too linear and on-rails >Major plotholes with the X and Metroids (these new Spanish devs couldn't even be bothered to open a wiki?)
I could go on. Considering all the time that's passed and all the new Metroidvania type games that have come out over the years, it was very disappointing and just rehashing the same old things again.
>being one shot by them in a QTE was also retarded
Should have played better, then.
>Metroid DNA is purged thanks to QR-X
[...]
The fuck are you even talking about?
[...]
No they have not, show me proof to the contrary.
>Metroid DNA is purged thanks to QR-X
Why do people always say her Metroid DNA was completely eradicated and purged and gone when bringing up Fusion and Dread? QR-X allowed her to be able to control it, she's still part Metroid.
>Samus is a Metroid during the final parts of Dread. Like 100% >QR-X shows up, merges with Samus and she goes back to Normal >No dude, ya see. QR-X only allowed her to control her metroid powers...somehow!
It's gonna be revealed that the Chozo created Metroids based on some ancient god-like entity's creations and that they are actually a primordial force of nature and the next time you face Metroids they'll be the real deal, not the Chozo made replicas.
That is a terrible idea. The Chozo were so fucking broken in lore that some didnt even need bodies and went to a higher plane of existence. Saying that Metroids were based off of something else goes against everything that the Chozo were built up to be. It would be like saying that Superman is a clone of some ancient alien and the sun actually doesnt power him at all.
Yes, she went back to normal as in she could control her Metroid powers. Show us where the game or Sakamoto said that QR-X totally purged all Metroid traces from her.
The Chozo on Tallon IV had forsaken their advanced tech to become one with nature. Go back to their truest roots. Did you even play Prime 1? Also, even the games said that no one knows what happened to the majority of them. The manga says they wasted their youth and became so old that they couldnt breed anymore.
This is Prime lore you're building off of, isn't it?
He said making them Gaidens would seem like a copout, but also mentioned elsewhere that the 2D Metroid and the Prime games are separate things. If there's a point of convergence, I heavily doubt that a mainline entry will be compromised for the sake of background content from Prime.

>Mecha Ridley shows up in Samus Returns >Still spouting that "prime and 2D are separate"
He meant separate in the fact that they happen in sequence but they will not really effect each other besides a nod or something The Prime games are interquels to the 2D games. They happen, and are canon. End of story.

You're making a big leap here as though someone denied the games have a place in the timeline and then use a little reference to bolster it. If Prime 4 has Ridley and he doesn't end up in the Mecha-suit by that game's conclusion, this idea gets dumpstered as well, so that's something to look out for.

>That is a terrible idea
I wasn't pitching it, I was just giving an example of how easy it'd be to come up with some bullshit just to write Metroids back in if they want to, and considering how marketable they are I doubt they're truly gone for good.
What that anon said is the exact same concept behind Prometheus for the Alien Franchise. And we all know Metroid has very heavily borrowed from all the Alien movies in the mainline entries. So it wouldnt be a surprising direction at all. Funnily enough Dread is the most "original" and disconnected from Alien out of the 2D Metroid plots
Prometheus lore ended up having the Engineers be so fucktarded that they somehow got genocided out of existence by fucking ONE android piloting a tiny ass pre-FTL species transport.
yes, he had a small batch of Bio-weapon on there. But there's no fucking way he should have been able to get withing even a solar systems distance of the planet without getting shot down, even before you ask how he would have dispersed the bio-weapon to mutate them and kill them all effectively with a tiny ass human ship.
Prometheus and alient convenant showcase why exploring a precursor race can be bad, because its hard to have them measure up properly. (Though covenant is just bad in every way shape and form)
It wouldn't make sense for QR-X to have purged her of the Metroid DNA though. If it did, then she wouldn't have been able to absorb QR-X, she would have just died from being infected by an X parasite.
You didn't list E.M.M.I.'s actual issue >billed as enemies you have to stealth around >actually they always hang around ROUGHLY where you are so they can hear you shifting one micron to the right and make a beeline for you >wait, what? So there's no point to actually hiding? Then what's the invisibility upgrade for? >it also makes you silent, and they won't fully aggro when you use it >they'll still attack you when they run into you... and it slows you the fuck down >and? it's TECHNICALLY helping you with stealth! >every other fucking game that gives you the ability to temporarily hide in exchange for movement speed or whatever does so with the expectation that whatever's looking for you will LEAVE >nuh-uh, shut the fuck up, other games don't exist, nippon nanbah wan
Dude, E.M.M.I leave. They actually go to other areas entirely. Sometimes, you can go through a big swathe of the E.M.M.I. zone and not ever see the thing.
I never once saw an E.M.M.I. that wasn't magnetized to my rough position, waiting for me to make a noise it could fucking bolt at. The only time they left was when their obvious "patrol this screen in particular" path would have to turn 180 degrees to stay on the same screen as me, and even then they were back as soon as possible.
In my case, they'd actually leave and enter other areas, patrolling independent of my existence so long as I didn't set them off. Checking the map, they'd be well out of range in different situations as well.
Maybe it's just because I hung around and observed the wrong ones, I just never felt like they were truly off patrolling somewhere else, only stuck fulfilling a patrol route I was a few screens away from before they could pivot to one that was mostly centered on the screen I was on.

Oh, once you ping them, they do seem to gravitate to you. That webm I posted shows a moment where I engaged it. It zoned toward that area, but when I left that space, it reversed course toward my direction, I'd assume to be kept on my tail as a result. I also figure that E.M.M.I. are connected to their zones, so in patrolling when alerted, perhaps they recognize that a door has been opened.
Anonymous
I do feel it's a bit unfair the degree to which they can follow you even when you haven't fully alerted them- maybe if there's an invisible "alert level" that's more specific than "EMMI is/isn't actively chasing you", they should've made that a little clearer. That said, if you say they can really just walk past you I'll believe it.
Anonymous
I figure it's a sort of AI touch to ensure tension: a kind of tuning to keep you on your toes once the engagement has been established. Regardless, after you get some experience with your move set, the E.M.M.I. generally don't pose too much of a threat, so you might just zoom past them.
Anonymous
Yeah, I'm not saying it's unfair or anything, just that I felt like I was racing them rather than trying to sneak past them- in the first real zone I waited a solid minute or two for it to ever leave a range from which it would hear me move, and it just didn't. So instead of actual stealth, I just ignored every ping of it seeing or hearing me and planned my route to outrun it.
Anonymous
Fair enough. In my case, I initially just tried to use the invisibility to platform the short distances I needed to other map segments or to a door. The short span and the proximity added to the tension in some of those situations. I can imagine taking a corner for the long term and hoping to platform conventionally unimpeded once it leaves to be frustrating once you realize that chance is gone.

That's a completely valid strategy. Guess I just wasn't viewing the stealth quite right, oh well.
it's a really good game but it's missing memorable tunes, the music isn't bad but it just blends into the background too much, and there's not a whole lot of dread
i want a stupid excuse to have ridley in the next game, like the galactic federation sifted through the debris of the B.S.L's station destruction and found parts of his and the SA-X's DNA on like a rock, brought them back to life and now they're out of control
Aside from ZM, it's the least innovate metroid game ever made. Couple that with meh visuals and music it's not hard to see why people stopped discussing it while super and prime still get buzz. Oh and the whole shitting up the level design with EMMI areas too
All three of the Prime games take place between 1 and 2. This is the only timeline that makes sense because 2 directly flows into 3 and none of the Prime games can take place after Super based on logs
There seems to be an implication that the time between Samus defeating Mother Brain and her mission in Metroid 2 to eliminate the remnants is short. It seems more and more odd the more games are released in that time period.
Size does not equal strength. Reminder that IRL Kaiju would be killed by artillery from half a continent over before they could even understand what was happening.
>Samus is fucking brutal in Dread. She is completely out of fucks to give at this point.
And that's what made her interactions with Quiet Robe so compelling...to me, at least
Spring Ball is surprisingly missable, I never realized it was a thing until my third playthrough of Super. If you get the hang of bomb jumping you don't need it at all, I'm still surprised in retrospect I completely neglected to grab it
To be fair the GBA's screen was dim as FUCK, the raw colors of the games were deliberately raised up a lot to compensate. Without any adjustments I suppose bright colors already somewhat befit ZM but I tend to prefer a desaturation filter for most games.
every time I try to play dread I get bored in the first 10 minutes and then stop
then I'll try to sequence break but have no idea where to go and what to do and get frustrated and bored and stop
how the fuck do people play these games like this fucking autistic shit
Really great game. Really hope the same team is working on a sequel right now. If they can get it out without the cut corners of Dread, it will be fantastic. Also, I hope we get more time with the grapple beam before the space jump
Replaying Hunters campaign on a whim. I think a lot of people overlook Retro's attention to detail. The game has a lot of faults, but within the scope of what a DS could do, they really stuck to that caliber of immersion the main Prime games gave.

It's been over a decade since I last played Aliens Infestation but I didn't know what people saw in that game. All the different marines were just palette swaps and functionally extra lives with maybe some different dialogue and the end of it all was a damage sponge boss that abruptly cuts to the credits. Felt like there was a lot of lost potential.
axiom verge
trippy game but i ended up being dissapointed in it
This game is pretty boring. I can't explain why.
its boring because the fast travel is just a big long tube instead of a real metroidvania. and you dont even get to 'fast' travel through it until a point in the game anyway so you just awkwardly platform througha tube. plus the game has a ton of backtracking with no payoff. like in other games youll have to progress through an area without a high jump and its a challenge. then you get the high jump and when you backtrack again its super easy but enemies might fuck you up. verge didnt really do anything like that so you just platform the same screens over and over again.
definitely worth playing but id say its very safe to drop if you dont like it.when i heard it got a sequel i had 0 interest. weird because i was super hype about the game from trailers
forgoat about ESA, that ones more metroid 1 over super though
I've loved them since 93 or 94, whenever it was that Super Metroid came out.
enjoy replaying
>Super
>Fusion
fun playing once
>Dread
>AM2R
played only to get my money's worth
>Samus Returns
>Prime
>Hunters (although online was really fun)
>Other M
>NES
What about Zero?
Never tried. I'm hesitant since it's an NES remake.
The point of it is it unfucks the shittier things about the NES Metroid. It plays like Super with some stuff from Fusion.
FINE I'll play it RIGHT NOW.
Have fun with the part that comes after Mother Brain!
You're gonna like what you're in for. I guarantee it
>Never tried. I'm hesitant since it's an NES remake.
I have heard from some that it is to NESTroid what REMake 2002 is the Resident Evil 1. I've replayed it so many times since 2006 or whenever I got it.
It plays like an iterative sequel/prequel to Super Metroid and it's far less gated than Fusion.
I love them and it's the one franchise where my stance is that anyone who dislikes it just objectively bad taste.
*just has objectively bad taste
used to think that but people is unironically this basic when comes to games, wouldn't surprise me is the same people that defend Halo because of the story.
These are really fucking retarded posts. Not even good bait. Have a reply anyway.
For profiling purposes are you guys butthurt AM2R fags or seething Hollow Kmorons?
This is OP. I never finished Hollow Knight but I appreciate it as a work of art, at least with the designs and music. The melee still feels clunky.
I just got bored and disengaged with it after a while. I think I need to fight the 3 Dreamers but the world and characters seem shallow.
This is OP. Im both and go by xe/xim.
post xussy
The metroid prime games are 10/10 expect 3 which is a 5/10
>expect 3 which is a 5/10
You fucking kidding me right
probably. he couldn't even get the word except right.
If you're getting upset over typos then you should start writing properly yourself, cringe tendie
>Only metroid prime i didnt even bother to complete
How the fuck can you criticize a game you didn't even finish? That's so fucking retarded.
>No, you cant call a game bad just because it was so boring that you had to drop it!
The absolute state of metroid prime 3 apologists
Thanks for proving that you're just retarded.
play prime 3 on hypermode and see how far hyper beam spam gets you gay
I played it on the hardest difficulty, are you going to claim now that metroid prime is a hard game?
The entire game is just
>Enemy appears
>Go into hyperbode
>Hypermode overload
>Now tap a to balance out meters!
Godawfull game mechanic
Except 2* sorry bros I made a silly mistake there heh
They’re pretty bad. Shadow complex is way better than every metroid game
I finished Zero Mission 100% a week or two ago as my first Metroid game. I am astounded. A 9/10 game start to finish
They are good but they are overrated here because its nintendo
First time I played super was in 2013 when the Wii U had it on sale for 30 cents, ever since I've played through it at least five times and thinking about doing a sixth playthrough pretty soon
I liked the Prime series, Super, and fusion.
I'm old as shit, so I like the 2D ones starting from Super.
Didn't like the Prime series because using the gamecube controller in FPS games is fucking ass, and wagglan controls are somehow even worse.
yes anon, nintendo makes metroid games ironically
Dread was so good I actually felt bad for pirating it and almost wanted to buy a copy even though I don't even have a Switch. That's when you know a game is good.
We are done with the game.
better to be a metroid fan and have a good game end than to be strung along forever until mindbroken
I mean, it was absolutely generic platformer. The only thing it had to itself is the name METROID. Otherwise it was 5/10 game.
Movement in this game is fun__
SAMUS + BLACKED
WE DOWN?
only if it's with an alien at a space saloon and samus smokes a cigar afterwards.
It's out of the mainstream mind, where dedicated autists can run it without some cancerous shit ruining everything
This is a bird
Are those feathers?
yup
why does it take going through 3 areas to open up
the first couple of hours is painfully linear
Do a skip or two. You can get a bunch of power ups early on in various orders or amounts before or after fighting Kraid.
>You can get a bunch of power ups early on in various orders or amounts before or after fighting Kraid.
Early bombs/grapple is the bee's knees.
We didn't forget. We waited a long time for Dread, we got it, it was pretty good. The end.
If a game isn't shitposted about on Ganker for years and years, it's a dead forgotten piece of shit.
OH SHIT
Well this is already a little different
It's good shit, isn't it brother?
da worm
what kinda filter do you use? looks great
creepy
I don't think I use any. VisualBoyAdvance had Bilinear on default which made it blurry so I disabled it. The game looks a bit washed-out though, idk if that's normal
Looks like you just went to Norfair BOYYYYYY
How are you liking it compared to the others?
I've played Dread about 17 times in all, with two of the times involving 100 percent runs. The GBA titles were a staple for me growing up and it feels like I rekindled a relationship with a very old friend
???
I'm liking it so far, alot more than NES at least. There are quite some differences already. Beginning still kinda slow but the same can be said for every Metroid.
Spooky tune isn't it
>Only 3 million sold
Great for Metroid but I was still expecting more.
it's fucking kino
haven't heard of this one, i'm gonna try it later!
Wasn't very good. Just had that new metroid finally hype.
I’m playing Metroid prime, and I got stuck. I used a guide for an hint and I feel guilty. Did I lost the game bros?
It's on by default in a game from 2002 for a reason.
No, it was a puzzle. I knew where to go. I did have the hint system on, and would have completely forgot about where I had to go if I didn’t
If you feel bad about using the hint system, I didn't even know you could turn it off and it constantly activated because I was slow as hell.
the one time in MP2 I went to the opposite side of the map only to be told that I missed something at the bottom of Torvus Bog pissed me the hell off, fuck
The phazon mines map mindfucked me constantly.
where did you get stuck? i remember getting stuck around the phazon mines when I first played it
After you get the spider ball you go to the room in the temple with the Chozo statue and fight the ghost Chozo. I had no idea what to do after the statue throws you onto that platform.
different anon but I got stuck for a while there too, look at the colored things in the back of the room
yeah, I looked it up and you have to bomb it. I figured out shooting it, but not the second part
yeah I got stuck because I thought you needed all three beams to shoot all of them to progress, wandered around for like 2 hours looking for another way forward lol
Same. I’m a zoomer and tried to play this game without a guide to better get the experience of playing it on launch. I guess you would have just bought the guide or asked your friends at that point.
I played it and enjoyed it a lot. I'll probably replay it in a few years and enjoy it again.
Here's the real pic
It's the best 2D Metroid and the second best Metroid overall.
Hollow Knight is just a 2D Dark Souls, along with all the boreness that entails.
quality over quantity. while i like both games, metroid doesn't get as boring as hk.
nintendo hates selling their IP's for less than 60 dollars
secondly, you cant look at a game by its time. most people dont 100% complete games. I would rather play a game thats short and sweet, and then replay the hell out of that game, getting better and better
>literal who indie still seething about dread
lol
>He's still mad about no Silksong
Why is it so boring to move in HK?
I just played it again this week. It's one of the best switch games and is great for a Saturday afternoon or Friday night replay.
>best selling game in the series
>guaranteed sequel in development right now
>forgotten
Hoping Samus's suit is fully re-generated by 6's start.
>They missed a massive opportunity to have the pauldrons look like the metroid membranes IMO.
I think that would have been a little too on-the-nose and looked goofy as a result.
>I like the concept of a monster girl suit,
Should have gone full monster girl fapbait then.
>make her face a gross scalie
Coward. At least make it closer to the evolved metroid heads.
We just learned that Raven Beak was:
>A prolific fighter
>Not averse to putting his DNA into other creatures to see what happened
Have a clone or something with a chunk of his DNA make a power grab. Give us a big bad in the exact same position as Samus, learning and integrating Chozo tech as they find it, just on the other side morally.
We'l probably have a cliche "Evil opposite rival" next, with some other character injecting themself with metroid DNA and samus having to stop them as they godmode with their metroid power.
Cliche is not bad. I wanna see it happen. So long as the game doesn't start and end with the outwardly stated conflict being "someone's after Samus's metroid DNA", I'm good.
>Metroid DNA
>When Sakamoto said that METROIDS ARE FUCKING DONE FOR GOOD FOR ANY GAME PLACED AFTER DREAD!
Poked Samus with a needle.
clearly some brave soul is going to volunteer for repopulating the metroid race with Samus, putting lots of squishy jellyfish babies in her stomach.
>Metroid DNA is purged thanks to QR-X
The fuck are you even talking about?
No they have not, show me proof to the contrary.
>Metroid DNA is purged thanks to QR-X
It wasn't purged, it was just put back "under control" in her system from robe's DNA.
It was the equivilent of having an allergy shot but not getting rid of the underlying allergy. She still has metroid DNA, its just not raging out of control in "Drain everything dry and have Vore instincts" mutation mode.
It's gonna be revealed that the Chozo created Metroids based on some ancient god-like entity's creations and that they are actually a primordial force of nature and the next time you face Metroids they'll be the real deal, not the Chozo made replicas.
>true metroid wants Samus as breeding "queen"
>Failure in QTE leads to cutscene of samus being used as onahole
>Samus' insane DNA makes her the perfect Queen Metroid
Fund it.
Sakamoto also said he'd still be there the morning after, and yet...
Metroids have been "done" like 3 times now, they always walk back them being extinct/relevent.
its in the series name for God's sake.
Yes, but they don't need to bring back the Metroids because there's still one Metroid alive. The most powerful one, in fact.
>Science Team
>Sylux
>Kriken Empire
>whoever made Kanden
>Spire and the missing diamants
>Ylla and N'Kren
>Monks of Grondheim
>Miteralis, the Global Exterminator Virus
Dread itself gave us a potential new enemy with the Excelion Star Corporation. There's plenty of already existing lore to play with.
Sequel? are you talking about metroid prime 4?
No. Metroid 6.
Sakamoto stated metroid6 is already in development anon.
Don't recall if they rehired MS or going fully internal though.
>Don't recall if they rehired MS
I hope they did, I was so happy that they fixed every criticism I had with Samus Returns in Dread.
God dammit I want to fuck Samus so fucking much in her base Dread suit FUCK THE ZERO SUIT THE HELMET STAYS ON
How Metroid can use warp pipe?
u have to enter on the right frame rule
You're not Mario
I would probably give it more of a 6 but yeah Prime 3 kinda sucks tbh
This franchise has been made obsolete by Hollow Knight, and I say that as a Metroid fan.
This post has been made obsolete by me, and I say that as the same anon.
Who are you even trying to fool retard?
I started both games this month, and Prime 1 is better than hollow knight
>b-but
Cope seethe dislocate ect.
This franchise has been made obsolete by Hollow Knight, and I say that as a proud homosexual.
Luv me Metroids
Luv me Samus
Luv me Ridley
Luv me Power Suit
Simple as
Reminder that samus is Canonically a 5 foot tall womanlet now who men tower over.
She also breaks down and cries at the site of monsters.
CANON.
other m isn't canon anymore
go fuck yourself
>other m isn't canon anymore
Its never been decanonized. Nintendo has never stated anything even hinting at that.
Second, I have no need to fuck myself, your mom will do that for me.
Not only is it still canon, it got direct reference in two completion rewards, one of which is card amongst the mainline entries of the series. Thinking about it, because it's labeled Metroid 3.5, perhaps they consider it a numbered entry.
Are you talking about Adam? Because he is not originally from Other M.
No, there's an actual, labeled reward card representing Other M- by name- amongst the end rewards that include a card for each mainline entry: Metroid, Metroid 2, Super, Fusion, and Other M each get them. Also, the final reward with Adam actually IS notable in that it uses his Other M design.
De-canoned by based thigh loving Spaniards.
Naw. Probably just that these dudes are tall themselves. She's something like 6'3 out of the suit.
It was a fun game, but not all time great. I played through maybe the first half or so again recently. They got a lot right.
Really the series needs a full reboot but Nintendo won’t do it.
Metroid Dread would have done about 4x better if it released as a multiplatform title.
It wasn't very good. There were some interesting ideas though (like the different abilities), but...
>E.M.M.I were just a poor mans SA-X and overstayed their welcome (being one shot by them in a QTE was also retarded)
>The music was largely forgettable and bad (a crime considering the series' reputation)
>Environments were far too similar and boring.
>Mechanics from Super Metroid (a game from 1994) STILL didn't return (can't turn off equipment you want, no secret weapon combos, no charge beam multi-bombs e.t.c.)
>Game felt far too linear and on-rails
>Major plotholes with the X and Metroids (these new Spanish devs couldn't even be bothered to open a wiki?)
Why do people always say her Metroid DNA was completely eradicated and purged and gone when bringing up Fusion and Dread? QR-X allowed her to be able to control it, she's still part Metroid.
>Samus is a Metroid during the final parts of Dread. Like 100%
>QR-X shows up, merges with Samus and she goes back to Normal
>No dude, ya see. QR-X only allowed her to control her metroid powers...somehow!
>The Chozo were so fucking broken in lore that some didnt even need bodies and went to a higher plane of existence
The chozo got worfed by space pirates and died to a meteor impact on tallon 4.
Still canon, even Sakamoto says so.
He said making them Gaidens would seem like a copout, but also mentioned elsewhere that the 2D Metroid and the Prime games are separate things. If there's a point of convergence, I heavily doubt that a mainline entry will be compromised for the sake of background content from Prime.
>Mecha Ridley shows up in Samus Returns
>Still spouting that "prime and 2D are separate"
He meant separate in the fact that they happen in sequence but they will not really effect each other besides a nod or something The Prime games are interquels to the 2D games. They happen, and are canon. End of story.
You're making a big leap here as though someone denied the games have a place in the timeline and then use a little reference to bolster it. If Prime 4 has Ridley and he doesn't end up in the Mecha-suit by that game's conclusion, this idea gets dumpstered as well, so that's something to look out for.
Ridley's already in the mecha-suit
You're not getting the potential issue. Depending on how he's handled in 4 if he appears, they might cause a disjoint.
Not really.
Feel free to put your fingers in your ears
illiterate.
Do you even know what an interquel is?
Dude's obviously shitposting
The fact that you can put as many robo bits on Ridley as you want makes your point moot.
It doesn't. If they aren't careful, they may very well cause a contradiction.
Fucking how? You can put as many Prime games between the 2D games as you want. Who even says that Ridley will even show up in Prime 4?
This is Prime lore you're building off of, isn't it?
It wouldn't make sense for QR-X to have purged her of the Metroid DNA though. If it did, then she wouldn't have been able to absorb QR-X, she would have just died from being infected by an X parasite.
You didn't list E.M.M.I.'s actual issue
>billed as enemies you have to stealth around
>actually they always hang around ROUGHLY where you are so they can hear you shifting one micron to the right and make a beeline for you
>wait, what? So there's no point to actually hiding? Then what's the invisibility upgrade for?
>it also makes you silent, and they won't fully aggro when you use it
>they'll still attack you when they run into you... and it slows you the fuck down
>and? it's TECHNICALLY helping you with stealth!
>every other fucking game that gives you the ability to temporarily hide in exchange for movement speed or whatever does so with the expectation that whatever's looking for you will LEAVE
>nuh-uh, shut the fuck up, other games don't exist, nippon nanbah wan
I figure it's a sort of AI touch to ensure tension: a kind of tuning to keep you on your toes once the engagement has been established. Regardless, after you get some experience with your move set, the E.M.M.I. generally don't pose too much of a threat, so you might just zoom past them.
This is the only timeline that makes sense because 2 directly flows into 3 and none of the Prime games can take place after Super based on logs
>caring about such a retarded continuum.
There seems to be an implication that the time between Samus defeating Mother Brain and her mission in Metroid 2 to eliminate the remnants is short. It seems more and more odd the more games are released in that time period.
Kraid-sama is no more
Samus pegged his belly button too hard.
It was always weird to me how Kraid despite being the biggest Space Pirate by far was always the most bullied
Size does not equal strength. Reminder that IRL Kaiju would be killed by artillery from half a continent over before they could even understand what was happening.
Samus is fucking brutal in Dread. She is completely out of fucks to give at this point.
>Samus is fucking brutal in Dread. She is completely out of fucks to give at this point.
And that's what made her interactions with Quiet Robe so compelling...to me, at least
I think this is the highest you can jump in ball mode in any game. God damn
spring ball in sm is pretty high too, i think
Spring Ball is surprisingly missable, I never realized it was a thing until my third playthrough of Super. If you get the hang of bomb jumping you don't need it at all, I'm still surprised in retrospect I completely neglected to grab it
i missed it the first time too
The bomb jumping in ZM is fast as fuck too, albeit mashy. You can do quite a few sequence breaks with it.
fucking hell I knew it looked washed out. Turns out there was an "LCD filter" by default
please turn on color correction if you are on mgba
To be fair the GBA's screen was dim as FUCK, the raw colors of the games were deliberately raised up a lot to compensate. Without any adjustments I suppose bright colors already somewhat befit ZM but I tend to prefer a desaturation filter for most games.
🙁
every time I try to play dread I get bored in the first 10 minutes and then stop
then I'll try to sequence break but have no idea where to go and what to do and get frustrated and bored and stop
how the fuck do people play these games like this fucking autistic shit
FUCK Ridley
He was kinda ez. I feel he was much harder in other games
Wait for your hardmode run lol. Or hardmode Ridley-first run.
>tfw taking a break before doing another playthrough of Subversion
Got a few sequence breaks I thought up when I played it the first time.
>chozo were inspired by the space jockey in alien
i don't know how i never noticed
I still fucking remember. I beat the fucking bird after dozens of tries, at 4am with a headache and burning eyes
Looks like this is the final boss. GG 😉

Enjoy the shinespark puzzle
I dislike the lack of personality of the map and how everything is connected using tramway and teleportation.
Still a good game.
>Wall jump shortcuts everywhere
>Dread decides to completely remove single wall jumping
I'm still mad.
Not the image i meant to post
its okay I liked it
>paintings just 1:1 egyptian
lame
>Final boss gets upgraded if you collect all items.
This was so soulful, why have they never done it again?!!
The story and lore hasn’t been good since Super. Once the game is done, no real reason to go back to it. Maybe in a couple years.

All of the worldbuilding in Dread made me deeply invested; different strokes for different folks I guess
Why is the Dread suit so fucking sexy fuck
I'm still mad that Ghavoran didn't have a Green Brinstar remix.
