I've had a Legion 5 for 1 years and it still works perfectly. Only cleaned it once. Gaming laptops being unreliable is a dead meme. I love mine. I can take it to the conservatory and work on some music, come back in to the house and work on my ROM hack, then go back to my room, plug everything back in and play some emulated Switch games. What more could you possibly want?

Yeah, they used to be kind of terrible, but I have one from 2021 and it’s been great. Yes, I spent $2k but it’s played every game old and new with no problems, I’m out of town a lot so it’s very easy to pack up or even fly with. When I get home I hook it up to a 27” 1440p monitor and a keyboard. The biggest downside is not being able to upgrade/ replace things but oh well, I’ll just get a new one in a year or two.

I also have a Legion. It's about 3 years old, has been used for school and games and still runs perfectly. I had to get a new psu though because the cable got shredded.

How weak is that fatso? Modern PCs are light as a feather compared to the a metal cases of the 90s

Why do I need a mobile machine? My life is mostly work, friends, computer. I can't use my computer at work, I'm not playing games while hanging out with my friends because I'm not a retard. And I just use my computer at home, so what is the purpose of getting a laptop?

Tower Gaming: Tower and Keyboard trip 1, Monitor and 12 pack of pop trip 2.
Laptop Gaming: Laptop , coddled like a fragile baby trip 1,going back to his car to take a breather because he could have dropped a $3000 piece of shit that overheats trip 2.

Gaming laptops are for gay consoomers.
Building a desktop PC is the manly thing to do.

Laptops are still ass for the price you pay for essentially entry level hardware.
This lil nigga is on par with a 1050ti laptop for around half the price.

1050 laptops are cheaper than the deck, you got screwed

but if you buy a laptop you can't obsess over being able to play Nintendo Switch games on something that looks a little like a Switch but isn't

The Decks faster than the mobile and desktop 1050, the 1050ti is more on par with the Deck.
And 1050ti laptops still go for around 500 to 700 USD, which the last time I checked is more than 399 USD and now 359 USD.

          >1.6 TFLOPS
          1050 mobile
          >1.9 TFLOPS
lol, deck is a waste of money

            Deck is 1.3TF.
Running it at 1.6TF is unsustainable. Maybe the new model handles it better

I play games when I'm at home.
When I'm not at home, that means I'm doing things. And what's the purpose of a gaming machine if I'm doing things? Most normal people think it's fucking weird to bring a gaming machine with you everywhere you go during your work/travel activities. You're supposed to socialize and get shit done at that time, not waste your time playing games. You play games at home when you're not doing anything else.
What would the purpose of a laptop be in this scenario?

I got a Gigabyte RTX 4080 for $200. Am I good or what?

I mean, for $200 the 4080 is a fantastic deal. And it doesn't really matter which one you buy since all of the AIBs have these absurdly massive fans on them that are overkill for how little heat the 4080 generates.

I don't even need a gaming laptop, the $500 one I got runs the only newish games I care to play (mostly Hitman and P5R) just fine with integrated graphics. Technology is pretty amazing.

The trick is to just buy a case with a handle or build in something small enough to comfortably carry under your arm. I went with the latter option and didn't even have to compromise on performance. Feels like owning a console but better.

is there a "gaming laptop" that's worth buying when compared to a pc? they're all roughly the same price for something much worse that is bricked if your cat steps on it the wrong way

Desktops are always better for what you pay and also have a much higher end ceiling.
There is no such thing as a "desktop killer" laptop and never will, you pay extra for a smaller form factor and also suffer the drawbacks from worse cooling and cutbacks from smaler size.
