Very original thread. Never seen that before, OP.
Halo and Max Payne
>proves OP's point
Fallout
He said where it ISN'T like that
Metroid, everyone knows Zero mission is the best on the 2D series followed by Metroid 5
Dread is the best, then Fusion then Zero Mission. ZM is babies first Metroid and is massively overrated because of casuals.
Super Metroid > Fusion > Zero Mission > Dread > Samus Returns > Metroid 1 > Metroid 2
Dread>Super>ZM>Fusion
haven't played 2 or any of its remakes, really should
Dragon Age
PvZ
Diablo.
Diablo is 3 > 1 > 2
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAH
Notice how these 2 didn't try to correct me and write a "real" order. Why? Because you need balls for that.
2>>>>>>>>1>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>3
lmao, good one zoomie
warcraft
>Tell me one game where it isn't like that.
Devil May Cry
Metal Gear Solid
For the OG Sonic Trio, it goes 2>3>1
Only a moron would say such a thing
Dead Space. 1 > 3 > 2
Halo
First game: put it out there, but have all these ideas on how to expand and refine it
Second game: put everything you learned from the first game into it
Third game: all your good ideas were put in the second game, you have to make this because the publisher wants it, so you do your best but the heart is gone
This rule kind of broke down in the PS3 generation as games took longer and longer to make and there is so much turnover.
TES.
It isn't always like that. But there is an explanations for why it's a common occurance.

clown
Zelda

Yakuza is 2>3>1 or 3>2>1
Jak and Daxter
>Game

Only series I can think of that comes close to that is Driver.
G4me
Gvme
Ga¡vie
>game subtitle
>subtitle other subtitle
>other subtitle 2
>game 2
>subtitle different subtitle again
Switch the bottom 2 and add 64, then you got Doom
I dunno man. But it do be like that
Damnit now I want pirate souls. Throw it on the list of shit to cool to ever happen
Super Mario Bros
Underrated
Oblivion > Morrowind > Skyrim
Note: TES really started with Morrowind, so it counts.
>t. filtered by the imperial dungeon in Arena
Unhinged opinion.
>Why is this ALWAYS like that?
First concept and realise it's usually experimental were the devs do their own project and thing and expect the feedback kater, second concept it's usually a more refined version from one, with fewer experimental concepts and most based on feedback. Then since most of the feedback of the second concept tends to be positive, the devs are in the blind again about what the fuck could they add or fix and now have a bunch of fanatics, cultists and retards measuring their every move, so they are back experimenting again while being slightly out of fresh ideas so they have to ride with whatever is left of the previous 2 concepts and form a new one, while also having Marketing breathing down their neck looking to annoy the team into putting ideas from someone else to appeal to more people even when it can be conterproducent to do so, since Marketing is all about having a relatively good idea and then use it as nauseum until it is no longer profitable even if people already hate it decades ago, so you end up with your trilogy of games becoming absolute trash that barely anyone wants to talk about.
>Tell me one game where it isn't like that.
Marathon, but that's a 4 game trilogy, so not sure if it counts.
Gothic
Spyro?
2 = 3 > 1
Reverse for ace attorney
The Spider-Man trilogy
Super Mario Bros
It isn't.
It's usually 1>2>3
Or 3>2>1 in the case of heroes of might and magic, and command and conquer
Easy, i can even name 4.
Jak 3>Jak 2> Jak and Daxter
Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Aresenal>Going Commando>Ratchet and Clank
God of War 3>God of War 2>God of War
Sly 3:Honor Among Thieves>Band of Thieves>Thievius Raccoonus
City > Asylum > Origins
Should be Asylum > Origins > City
Knight is shit and doesn't get included
Dark Souls
1>3>2
Sonic
3>2>1
DOOM
2>1>3
Quake
3>1>2
MGS
2>3>1
Half-Life
1>2>...
Super Mario Bros (3 > 2 > 1)
Devil May Cry (3 > 1 >>>>> 2)
Bayonetta (1 > 3 > 2)
Mega Man (3 > 2 > 1)
Mega Man X (1 > 2 > 3)
Mega Man Zero (2 > 3 > 1)
Metal Slug (3 >= 2/X > 1)
Street Fighter (doesn't matter your order, SF1 is dogshit)
Tekken (3 > 2 > 1)
Marvel vs Capcom (3 > 2 > 1)
Kirby's Dream Land (3 > 1 > 2)
Batman Arkham Rocksteady trilogy (1 > 3 > 2)
I agree with Mega Man X 1 > 2 > 3 but I'd say Zero 2 = Zero 3.
Sly Cooper (2 > 3 > 1)
4 need not apply
It's honestly harder to find a 4th entry that isn't a big step down than it is to prove OP wrong. Some exist (Mega Man platformers have strong 4th entries across the board) but when you're talking strong trilogies the 4th usually breaks the formula in a bad way.
Sorry but Underwater Library is the worst level in MMZ so I can't say Z3 is even tied for best.
Dark Souls (3>1>2)
Dragon Age (1>3>2)
Armored Core (3>2>1)
Ace Attorney (3>1>2)
Assassin's Creed (1 is shit, 3 is way better and way too underrated; 2 is obviously the best)
Modern Warfare (1>2>3)
Devil May Cry (3>1>2)
Bayonetta (3>2>1)
WarCraft (3>2>1)
Doom(1>2>3 or 3>1>2 if we count Doom 64 as the third game)
FEAR (1>2>3)
Fable (1>2>3)
Fallout (1>2>3)
Far Cry (3>2>1)
God of War (3>2>1)
Halo (3>1>2)
Mafia (1>2>3)
ok that's enough but I could keep going
As for 2>1>3s: Borderlands, Batman Arkham, Bioshock, Dead Space, Diablo, Mass Effect not much else comes to mind.
>Modern Warfare (1>2>3)
>Devil May Cry (3>1>2)
>Bayonetta (3>2>1)
>FEAR (1>2>3)
>Fallout (1>2>3)
>God of War (3>2>1)
>Halo (3>1>2)
>Bioshock (2>1>3)
Mass Effect is actually a case where 2>3>1 and it's not particularly close between 3 and 1
Kirby's Dreamland
Dream Land 2 is the worst mainline Kirby. The only real issue with 1 is its short length and 3's incredible presentation makes up for the occasional poor level design.
>Sonic being 2>1>3
What the fuck
Because 1st is the initial concept, then comes improvement, and then the "well fuck we already made the game we wanted to but we have to somehow make it even more which ends up being too much from the original idea".
Devil May Cry
DKC
Tomb Raider
Wario Land
Crash Bandicoot
Spyro The Dragon
Sonic
Streets Of Rage
Rayman
Tony Hawk
Megaman X
Resident Evil
Xenoblade Chronicles
>Tell me one game where it isn't like that.
Super Mario Bros.
It's 3>1>2>other 2 and anyone who disagrees is a contrarian.
1 > 3 > 2
TSE > TFE > TNE > SM > 4 > 3 >>>> 2 > LTB
definitely not true for starcraft which will end up being 1 > 3 > 2
Pokemon.
Mario
The only instance in the history of video games where a sequel surpassed its predecessor is Street Fighter 2. It never happened again.
