Any of you guys ever tried AOE1? It's still around and has had quite a few updates, it's actually playable MP with ELO and dedicated servers, and good balance.

Great soundtrack. I dislike the DE release. They made everything worse. Curious what the roadmap for Age of Empires 2 is going to be when they mentioned bringing some old friends.

How so?
What I like about AoE1 is the fast pace, no villager garrisoning or any of that, and towers are weaker. Makes the game much more unforgiving and fast paced. When the DE edition first came out, it was a trainwreck, unplayable bucket of wet shit. Really atrocious. They've managed to patch it up to a much, much better game now. The AI is much better functioning than before, MP doesn't lag and rarely drops, and the balance is much better. If you're interested I'd recommend checking it out
I actually really love the DE soundtrack, they pulled it off pretty well. Same with 2's.
The old MIDI music had its charm though
AoE1 DE's is too reverby and washed out for me, it can be hard to discern the original melodies that stood out in the MIDI. Same with the overall sound design. AoE2's is much better in that regard.
The balance of the game, especially for MP, is WAY improved in AoE1 DEs version

play aoe2 from time to time but it got boring for me. i play mostly teamgames and the meta in 4v4 is really stale, at least at my level.
every time i want to get serious i end up getting frustrated in a week and stop playing in favour of more chill that i can play while high or drunk with a controller.
its too demanding for a brainlet like me that dont want to stress anymore

I will always love AoE1 becuase it was one of the first "major" games in my life. It hasn't aged well though and the definitive edition is a joke compared to AoE2's.

The original version is pretty shit by modern standards. Every single game people play assyrians on inland, and build chariot archers. Make a good wood pit and you win every game
