5e discord westmarches

Is there littery any fricking server that doesn't suck or that the GM actually runs games on instead of just having players do meaningless RP's?

    Sandbox campaigns in 5e suck
Sandbox open tables even more so
Go try a BX west marches open table instead since for some reason that version of the game seems to excel at open table sandboxes

      >for some reason
Everyone who plays B/X online is a good player because they can't rely on meme builds and 90 race choices as a crutch. Also a lot of them are like 50 and just want to grill play for God's sake. B/X is also designed with the assumption of lots of players of various levels, and has good random tables and hex/dungeon crawl procedures.
Obviously all these are generalizations but I find them to be true a majority of the time.

West Marches always sounded like a cool game type to run. Wish we could organize something like that on here.

Be the change you want to see anon, you can recruit people in the Game Finder Threads.

        >Game Finder Threads
Those couldn't possibly exist. If there was such a thing, this thread wouldn't have been made.

Unfortunately, it might be filled with spergs doing unfunny meme characters, people that's going to ruin the fun for everyone just for the sake of it and other idiots that are going to do more stuff like that

      but like

Be the change you want to see anon, you can recruit people in the Game Finder Threads.

said, be the change you want to see. If you can make some solid setting and a short lore to gather some interest from the other anons, surely things will go smoothly, you just need that the kind of people I mentioned at the start just leave with time given and get filtered.

There's too many sociopaths and troony ERPers for a /tg/ related gaming community to ever really take off. At best, if you are lucky, you might be able to scavenge up 3 or 4 autists you can stand from here for a game, but a whole ass WM server? Good luck.

i don't hate roleplaying but when it's ONLY roleplaying all the time without anything in return it just gets stale..

      Never stood a chance

Roleplaying == playing the role of a character. What you are doing when you """roleplay""" has nothing to do with this hobby. GTFO.

Outside of the obviously superior playing at an actual table.

What's wrong with discord? It's just a chat program. Who the frick care what chat program you use?

              Rolled 3 (1d20)

Instead of typing in a command like /roll 1d20 and having it appear in your message or part of its own message, you need to trigger a bot with your formatted dice roll which means you have your name, linebreak, your bot command, linebreak, the bot name, linebreak, the bot's die result.

5e, westmarches, discord might be OK in moderation but their flaws stack.
Discord is bloated chicom spyware (but then again all tech is these days). And the userbase is awful which does matter for any public server and tends to rub off on people who use the app too much.

I've always wanted to run this kind of game, but I imagine I'd run out of energy for it pretty fast, and doubt I could find enough co GMs worth shit.

Once upon of time I was in one that ran pretty good until the owner started being a frickass.
Basically the way they should work is that their should be numerous co-DMs. About 1 DM per 3-5 players. All DMs work with each other to approve plots then they run the players through quest. If one DM is doing a shit job another DM may be permitted to help out under specific circumstances. You'll need about a minimum of 8 active people to make this work and 4 people playing at a time.
Also for D&D 5e the bare minimum starting level should be 3 and leveling should be accelerated. Maybe 1 level per every 4 on or above level quest completed. Be cool with homebrew within reason. Allow players to submit request. Don't be afraid to make some restrictions to content in the based game but don't go overboard with changes.
As for the structure in Discord this should be way cleaner now that categories and threads exist. Simply make each location a channel. Have pinned post with descriptions of the area and any NPCs which might be their at a given time. If any big changes happen to an area detail them in a pinned post. One off locations can be done in threads to reduce channel clutter. Try to make sure no more than 4 people are in a channel at a time.
