      No, that was GoldenEye

Turok, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and Quake (64) are for more likely to be someone's first console FPS. Especially considering how poorly the original Xbox sold.
      Turok 2 was mine.

I agree to some degree, but I think the main difference is the music. In DOOM it gets you hyped, shit's going on. In Halo it's soothing atmospheric stuff; it's nice but not enough to distract from the boring gameplay

Doom's corridors are hand-drawn, Halo's are literally prefabs copy and pasted

Doesn't apply to HL1. It's levels are pretty varied. What they did get away with - was how buggy and broken the game was for years and the fixes kept breaking mods too etc... The game was released in just one of the worst states any game could be released in. Valve programming has always been historically terrible - similar for netcode too. They managed to take idtech and make it crap.

Did anybody ever actually USE the flashlight in Halo? At least I never did.

Of course. There are night levels and dark tunnels throughout the game.

It was mostly still fun although it's a valid criticism. The flood were never fun to fight so the problem is exacerbated on the shit tier Library level

The ayys did well to make it work. Assault on the Control Room has multiple copy-pasted rooms, but each one has a different combination of aliens and in different ranks as well, and little changes like that is enough to make each encounter stay fresh despite the repeat geometry. This is especially true because, not only is this caused by their different innate qualities and equipment, but also by the fact that they actively work together in a squad.

It's something Bungie deserves a lot of credit for. Halo might not have an especially amazing lineup of enemies, but they absolutely nailed making them feel like a united force. Like the average Doom nerd with 10mins of DECORATE experience under his belt can make additions to and fine tune that game's roster to a higher level than Halo CE, but how they work together and their tactics within a room are entirely based on how the mapper has distributed them. Halo's got a bit of that too, but the fact that they will also actively seek to work with each other beyond their initial placement is just incredibly special.

It's also why I keep finding myself coming back to horde mode mods for any Halo entry more than any other game (also because being really casual works even more in that regard)

They also change the layout in these "copy pasted" rooms. They will add different geometry or block off a route through the room that was open in the last one. This is something you notice on repeated playthroughs especially on legendary because it stops you repeating the exact same tactic for every room.

Smart anons who get it (and probably actually played the game and didn't just watch it on YouTube).

Art direction and level design working cohesively to give the player a better sense of direction isn't something you see a lot unfortunately.

Because as a kid you didn't care about autistic stuff like copied hallways, due to you not yet being a jaded adult that lives for finding things to complain about, and could actually enjoy your games.

Because the 10th fight in one of Assault on the Control Room's identical rooms is still more entertaining than the entirety of Quake.
