maybe they're hard to do but im surprised there arent more poison cave/mine levels in games. Gas in those places are pretty lethal cause of shitty ventilation

It's not something known. People learn about shit they've never experienced through media which often obscures the reality.
People don't even realize mines and caves can be radioactive due to various radioactive metal natural to the minerals.

it's a damn shame. It'd be cool to have an indie game that highlights occupational hazards. I think its good to know even if you think you'll never be around a worksite

Poison mines where the gas pools in the lower sections and you need protective gear or a way to direct the gas elsewhere

Navigating this place was a nightmare. I hated all the DS2 dlc's actually, except for the final bosses.

I disagree. With the exception of those weird frogface monsters in the swamp, this DLC was pretty easy to navigate and actually really short if you know where to go.
For example, if the main goal for you is to kill all bosses (Squid Queen, It's a Sinh, and Trio buttholes) and not collect every item, then you don't need to lower down any platform.

I remember... this weird area where you had to hit a lever with a bow in order to proceed and I remember some sort of maze like area with a bunch of locked doors and you also had to find where the levers were to open them. Idk, maybe some people like this crap, but I wasn't too enthralled and was mostly bored. I preferred areas like Sen's Fortress to Shulva.

Shulva is the best DS2 DLC area, by far.

Brume Tower is visually impressive, but the tower makes no sense, because it's supposed to be near Iron Keep since it's where the Old Iron King smelted the iron ore he got at, and it's clearly not. It also has awful enemies and you need to either wait until the end of the game to visit to complete everything or come back later.

Eleum Loyce you have to complete twice to get everything, has AWFUL enemies, and an annoying side area. The boss is cool, but it loses its appeal when you have to redo it a hundred times to farm all those damn Loyce Souls for the Ivory King's armor.

Shulva doesn't have any of that. Some cool areas, some neat puzzles, and some fun fights. Always love to go to Shulva.

The soldiers and turtles would shoot poison out. It's not a swamp or a poison gas area, but poison is pretty prominent. The boss also inflicts poison, because it's a poison dragon.

Hell yeah. Basically the opposite of what

was saying. I love the puzzle-y aspect of Shulva. I love Sen's too though. A whole game of complex levels like Sen's and Shulva would be amazing. I really need to play King's Field some day, I feel like they'd have just what I'm looking for.

        >Eleum Loyce you have to complete twice to get everything
This is the good part of its level design though. It integrates “backtracking” (the first time through the levels aren’t the full version) and explorating side paths as the way to proceed rather than just navigating a typical dungeon/gauntlet. It’s kind of like a fun version of farron keep from dark souls 3. They both have the gameplay gimmick of
        >find separate points of interest spread over the map before getting to the end goal
But with farron it’s so streamlined it probably doesn’t even come across that it’s an entirely different gameplay style than a typical level like cathedral of the deep. Now, loyce still isn’t that fun because the enemies are fricking aids, but the macro design is good. It also houses the second worst singular “thing” in the entire series, the frozen outskirts is truly horrendous

Just use your bow and shoot them in the face, they die really quick. Don't have a bow? Use throwing knives, does the same thing.

Dark Souls 2 and it's DLC's was unironically based It's the best DLC set from's ever done and this shit when it was brand new was fricking fire.

Every piece of gear pickup was a revelation. Finding Flynn's Ring or Fume Ultra Greatsword etc, Bewitched Allonne's Sword with it's entirely unique moves.

Also the director of King's Field was the one who saved Dark Souls 2 from being dogshit unreleasable mess. Dark Souls 2 is actually a King's Field game and when looked at through this lense it's the best and deepest game they've released. Only graphics gays hate it.

Shulva is definitely the coolest thing they've done in hindsight. The level design and all the switches and the puzzle like nature. It felt like an incredibly large OOT dungeon.

I fricking wish they did more of this. I want to press more switches and move doors and walls and change the zone. The spectral knights you needed to kill their body, the rotating stone doors with the circles cut out, so much fricking KINO

DS2 sucks overall, but there are indeed certain things it did incredibly well. I've only had a few people agree with me on this, but I think the gutter is one of the best exploration centric areas in the series. Slowly inching forward while lighting beacon after beacon and slowly revealing the scale of the place was pure adventure kino. And it made you progress through the level in a unique way you normally wouldn't. It's even different from tomb of the giants. Meanwhile when Miyahacki makes an area that reuses the same gimmick as a previous game (mostly poison) he just makes it a shitty swamp every single time. And yes, Shulva was great. It's the best of the 3 DLC.

I hated this zone, I think I hate it more than any other poison swamp because it's just grey stone buildings that you are often travelling through the middle of, meaning just grey stone hallways
all of this is also being hampered by DS2's awful lighting and shading

      >it's just grey stone buildings
it references the central tower in king's field 4 and place of beginning in king's field 3. there was some thought put into the design.
