Absolutely delusional.

Absolutely delusional. Tomb Raider has exactly one (1) iconic thing and it's the character of Lara Croft, and they think it can be easily turned into a massive multimedia universe to have their own MCU. What the frick are the suits of Amazon smoking?
Also they paid fricking 600 million dollars for the IP.

Looks like Amazon's delusion doesn't end with Lord of the Rings.

They are sitting on a mountain of money and they can spend them until the moment when the management realizes that they are being deceived

what you mean? tomb raider has been multimedia franchise for decades. there's books, comics, movies, games, phone games, tableboard games, card games etc.
you just need to combine those instead each being it's own thing and it's pure gold

I feel like cinematic universe fatigue is kinda setting in though. DC is trying to reboot their universe and new Marvel stuff is struggling.

It has nothing to do with fatigue.
The movies are all fricking shit.

Only way that could be reasonable would be to do it like Witchblade back in the day, as a crossover between different sexy action girls/femme fatales/scream queen characters.
However, I got zero faith in any current year corporations doing anything like that.

This is just too good of an idea for those morons to do. It would be easy money for them and they still won’t do it.

What was that 90s comic book with the hot girls who did underwater stuff. They kept trying to make it into a movie but now no one likes hot girl movies

this must be some kind of elaborate tax fraud

      >How do we make an Adams Family reboot a hit?
      >Hire Tim Burton to make a show about a cute goth girl doing tiktok dances
Sometimes the easiest answer is the right one.

      >How do we make Tomb Raider a success?
      >Hire someone who can direct James Bond tier action scenes
      >Stupid History Channel tier archeology
      >Nice locations
      >Stupidly hot english girl with huge breasts in skimpy (often wet) clothing
Money in the bank. Amazon will probably make her a black trans chest plank.

I think Amazon did it to save Embracer from failing. If Tomb Raider was viable why sell it?

It looks more like a scheme to embezzle funds from the company, embrace will transfer some millions from this amount to a guy who convinced amazon that Lara cost so much.

its fricking amazon, they always think things that are obviously not that can be made into some sort of next big thing.
one day they will be worse than google.

It's just the state of the industry and the nature of suits. They understand literally, absolutely nothing about these franchises, all they see is:
    >Marvel is the most successful thing
    >Quick, take whatever we got and make it more like Marvel!
And then they're done. Figuring out how to actually make that stupid idea work is someone else's job.

Amazon makes enough profits in a day to fund the entire project, dont worry about money.

  9. 1 year ago

A project like this would only work if they also had National Treasure and something else. Tomb Raider itself is one character, any attempts at building up a solid cast around Lara always fail.

    Easy.

All you have to do is buy the rights to every other notable female video game character. Samus Aran, Bayonetta, Ms. Pac Man.

And then have them all enter a lesbian harem relationship with Lara.

How about they make a good Tomb Raider game first? How about that? Last good one was Anniversary, 16 fricking years ago.

Going to need a sauce for that.

      All of these.

It will never succeed unless they replace Lara with a flat-chested black woman with a heavy African accent that no longer raids tombs; she only firebombs chicken egg production facilities.

Sony wasn't able to make a Spider-Man focused cinematic universe work
Universal couldn't make a monster-focused cinematic universe work
Warner couldn't make the fricking DC cinematic universe work despite it seemingly being a fricking no-brainer
Any of those could've involved way more iconic characters, would've had more interesting and varied plotlines to draw from, and could've gone to more unique settings/locales than Tomb Raider
The series doesn't have enough range to become a cinematic universe, and even setting that aside, the concept of a successful cinematic universe in general is a fricking unicorn

    >We want to take "Indiana Jones with big breasts" and make it into a multi-character kids franchise
Did they not learn from the last frick up?

    >First two movies were shit but made a lot of money
    >Indiana Jones rip off with a stupidly hot actress with big breasts
    >Remake is a huge flop
    >Indiana Jones rip off with a literal titlet

This is like when Universal decided to reboot their monster movies.

    >Make it a shared universe
    >Get rid of all the horror shit
    >Get rid of all the period era shit
    >Just make it a generic shitty action movie
    >wtf why did it flop, must be Billion Dollar Tom Cruise

The "dark" universe got shitcanned after The Mummy failed so everything after like The Invisible Man remake/reboot are their own separate shit.
