New to game. I’m doing the first 10 missions solo. I assume the first 10 is to introduce you to the different types of game modes in the game. After that, I assume you just pick missions and you can join random groups or have random people play with you?
yep
literally just do whatever missions you need for assignments/promotions/season challenges and intersperse with deep dives when you get to those
What do the beers do?
some have bonuses that last for the mission i.e. a bonus to how much gold you mine
For example the Oily one doesn’t seem to do anything. That’s the only one I have unlocked. Also how do I unlock paint schemes or is that later in the game?
oily oaf and glyphid slammers just make you drunk, leaf lover's sobers you up, the daily special provides a buff for the next mission, and the craft(able) beers just provide a funny effect like freezing you, teleporting you, or making you fart a lot.
Nothing except get you drunk, they're just for fluff. It's just fun to do while waiting, like dancing at the jukebox.
Only exception is whatever the daily special is, which will have an effect on the mission.
Also if you need to clear your drunkenness just jump in the barrel hoop, and never get the leaf lover's special lest you get called a filthy leaf lover.
the daily specials provide buffs
slayer stout and red rock blaster are two to watch out for
bosco is strong just because he has unlimited ammo
dont worry too much about playing online. the vast majority of people are friendly. just use your laser pointer, stick with your team, and mine stuff. that's all there is to it.
Thanks. I’m only doing them solo because I don’t wanna look like a jack ass who doesn’t know what I’m doing. I just beat the mission where you learn how to pump the liquid and it took me like an hour. I was also exploring.

You really don't have to worry about how other players will perceive you. I did worry about it initially, turns out people in public lobbies are very helpful to an autistic degree. I was nervous maybe the first match or two until I realized there's no reason.
you can join random groups (click join button and find an existing group) or have random people play with you (click Host: Public and wait for people to join or just start), yes.
You don't have to do the first missions solo btw, in fact it might be more difficult that way. I personally played with randos almost as soon as I was able to and I had a good time.
My only requirement for new players is to get the friendly perk. They don't need to understand or do anything else.
