Valve screwed over the Artifact fanbase by cancelling the Artifact 2.0 beta without even allowing users to invite friends like they said they would in January 2021 and does not deserve your financial support for these gross consumer-unfriendly practices.

Artifact is not shit. It is excellent. Artifact’s expansions on Dota 2’s setting and lore were amazing. Peak soul. There were times I actually felt like I was commanding the epic fantasy battlefield the cards depicted. I’d never had that feeling from a card game before, not even Magic.
When I looked at the menu, saw Jolixia’s caravan in the distance at night while the music took me, for a fleeting moment it felt like I was home.

The one nice thing I'll say about artifact is it actually translated the most important part of paper card games to digital.
You could talk to people in game, temp steam chat rooms would auto form for tournies, and you could even pay to compete for cash prize modes.
Unfortunately the actually economics fucked it hard and its completely valves fault.
Releasing a closed beta like two weeks before the launch is retarded because you get no time to actually fix complaints, its wild the same people who did that are the ones who allegedly have weekly playtests for their games.

Valve is the worst thing to ever happen to gaming. Lies (Artifact release), incompetency (Valve Time), destruction of games (TF2 updates), greed (Mann. Co Store, Steam Market, Paid mods), and don't forget they popularised the loot crates with TF2 CSGO and Dota 2. Dota 2 was so fkn greedy with its skins you had to pay,$500 to even get one for a model update essentially because the original hadnt been updated in 10+ years. I hate this garden gnome company so much that rides on others coattails, reminder that Valve has rarely ever put out an original fucking game besides maybe Ricochet and the most popular games they have are mods they bought out. I wish Valve, Bethesda and EA just disappeared, worst companies ever

draft was really fun. people said constructed was bad and i was sure i guess but that was mostly because i find constructed to be shit in general

The issue with constructed is valve took the WOTC approach and printed obvious chase cards like axe which is never results in a healthy format.
if people had a spine they would hold Valve accountable for this horseshit but instead because all their games are in one place, they just go along with it like everything is fine.

Look at the players. 60k in October, 5 months later in February, less than 1k.
It wasn't until 2 years later that it got above 1k again, and then quickly the players left.
Nobody likes card games. There's more people playing Cookie Clicker than Tabletop Simulator. If that doesn't tell you what players want, I don't know what will.
Artifact was a fantastic game, a great example of what bad publicity can do to a game. Just simply it existing and having that initial, negative knee jerk reaction doomed it. I bet the thousands of people that slandered it for being "P2W" spent money on hearthstone. And the people that complained it was a buy in price also moan about the Smurfs and cheats and toxic community of Dota and CS. You just can't win
They really fucked up on the release, alls they had to do was not hype it up and just stealth drop it during TI after they showed all the big shit.
Other studios have done that and it worked out fine, like how nintendo waited to show that bayonetta prequel nobody asked for AFTER bayonetta 3 was announced.
