So, I was sorting my image folders today and an idea came into my head that I got the urge to try and discuss here.
Basically I'm wondering everyone's thoughts on character models and how they change or don't depending on the items/equipment you put on them.
- Do you feel that a game has a stronger or weaker aesthetic if you can customize the way your character/party looks?
- Should more games that allow you to customize your character have Aesthetic Slots that allow you to equip armor/items just for looks with actual stat boosting equipment underneath.
- Do you like customization at all?
- How do you feel about skins instead of being able to throw together your own look for a character?
Bonus Question: Games with limited inventories, for or against?
Will post fun/entertaining images to keep thread active.

>- Do you feel that a game has a stronger or weaker aesthetic if you can customize the way your character/party looks?
Depends on the game. Are you assuming a humanoid role, or perhaps a ship?
>- Should more games that allow you to customize your character have Aesthetic Slots that allow you to equip armor/items just for looks with actual stat boosting equipment underneath.
Sure.
>- Do you like customization at all?
Yes.
>- How do you feel about skins instead of being able to throw together your own look for a character?
Shit. Almost always total shit.
>Bonus Question: Games with limited inventories, for or against?
Against in most instances. Exceptions are games where inventory management is a major game mechanic, such as certain text adventures.
i've always wanted a game where you actually carry your shit, and then i played Death Stranding and i loved it for that.
Is it good?
I was thinking of getting it.
i was really hoping this would be a thread where we post some of out favorite cool-looking inventorys or weapons or whatever...
You know what? I'm all for that.
Go ahead
>>- Do you feel that a game has a stronger or weaker aesthetic if you can customize the way your character/party looks?
Depends on the options for customization. If you are in a middle ages era picking from period accurate pieces, it helps, if you get clown suits and a tuxedo is definitely weakens it.
>- Should more games that allow you to customize your character have Aesthetic Slots that allow you to equip armor/items just for looks with actual stat boosting equipment underneath.
Yes, I love terraria for this.
>- Do you like customization at all?
Yes, but if I can customize literally everything it can result in games where you spend more time on the character editor than actually playing.
>- How do you feel about skins instead of being able to throw together your own look for a character?
They are neat although not as great for options, but some people like to have less choices I guess.
>Bonus Question: Games with limited inventories, for or against?
Depends on the game. If it just makes me waste time it sucks, if it makes me have to make choices between different difficult things it is nice (inventory limits in pokemon were dumb because you could just go heal whenever anyways unless you were ass deep in a dungeon. inventory limits in FTL make you consider actually selling things)
I think everybody everywhere can agree that Kirby getting hats from his power up is INFINITELY better than Kirby not getting a cute hat with his new power.
But maybe not as good as 'being able to combine abilities' Kirby.
Lemme tell you, when I played DQ11 and found a look I liked with an armor set, I spent way more time save scumming the pocket forge to keep that armor's stats up so I could keep the look longer.
I’m working on a personal animation project right now that uses a lot of game design philosophies and aesthetics
I think being able to throw on whatever silly nonsense you want despite the tone of the narrative makes ANY game better.
Play the entire game in swim trunks because why not
Visible accesories are always God-tier (And realistic) though I hate games that force you to constantly play dressup like BotW.
