                1. Why do you need other people to care about shit you care about?

                2. That isn't even necessarily true. You can make a really good pie, but the pie market is hyper competitive so only top 1% of pie makers can make it. So you maybe you settle being in the 75th percentile and enjoy your really good pie with company?

We can't escape our monkey social ladder brain, if we realize we're not in the top tier of skill at something we stop caring and only do it out of habit, but like to ourselves and tell ourselves we actually care. This is 100% irrefutable fact

Anon who made that post here, I will list some examples that don't demand a huge buy-in to get started. You may find that hobbies which allow you develop a craft or skill tend to be hugely valuable to your time, even if you're not doing it for days at a time. Being able to get into that meditative state where you're concentrating but not stressed has massive benefits to your mental health, it makes your brain re-calibrate its baseline for needing constant external stimulation (short form videos, grindy vidya, etc). I could write a 10,000 word post about this, but there are better people than me who can explain this kind of thing like Dr. K on YT.

In general, if your hobby also has a community of other hobbyists you can join, that is a big benefit but no required.

Growing plants, especially food plants. Can be done out of pots or buckets if you don't have a garden (I grow tomatoes and eggplants out of Home Depo buckets and they're tasty af)
Any kind of athletic practice, from yoga to team sports
Learning to play an instrument or other form of making music
        Drawing / painting
Waling & hiking (simply walking for 20-30 minutes a day does all kinds of good things for your mental & physical health)
Model making, either with plastic or materials like wood and paper.
        DIY electronics
Deliberately performing your own home or car maintenance and repair

I hesitate to include stuff like learning a software or programming since you're sitting in front of a computer, but those are cool too. Do not neglect your physical health, you will pay it with interest as early as your 30s.

Do this, and I promise not only will your quality of life improve, but you will enjoy vidya even more despite spending fewer hours playing it.

I forgot to include things like card games or TTRPGs, or miniature games. Those are great hobbies too, especially if there is a fair depth of learning that goes into them. Hobbies don't have to be typical holistic suburban white people stuff, you can just do something that interesting to you. I've got a friend who's a shaolin master when it comes to lockpicking, and he is a giant fucking nerd about his lock collection. His lifestyle is such that he would never actually need that skill, but who cares. Some people are really into busses and trains. Some people are into collecting kitchen utensils.

Gay, the only meanwhile hobby is smashing gash

          >smashing gash

I also started to enjoy the concept of skill building hobbies. I never got into them because every time I did and then find out how its applied to the "real world" it was nothing but lazy shit with no appreciation for the craft. See: art and programming. So since I've also kept those things as hobbies, I'm a lot happier just getting better on my own merits.

I'm in the middle. I've found happiness when I just played games in the era I grew up in. Modern games suck ass and I'm playing retro games I've never played before and loving the fuck out of them. I don't know if it's turbo nostalgia or what, but once I accepted that I'm a /vr/ fag and only occasionally play new games (pizza tower is the only 2023 game I've played this year as an example) I've enjoyed gaming a lot more.

Don't have to worry about expenses, most stuff is taken care of by parents. Money can go to whatever stupid shit you want.
    >22-28
You're on your own. Making rent is tough enough. Games feel like impossible expenses and you're grinding to get ahead.
    >29+
You have an established career, more money than you probably know what to do with, and you're established enough in your career that you don't have to work as hard to keep up. Now you can spend your disposable income on games without worry.

If you're not elect (which is something you should have figured out in your early teens), but also not completely transparent to yourself, 29 is about the age that you can't help but accept the mediocrity that is your existence, hence the resurgence in enjoyment of hedonistic entertainment that many experience around this time. You've given up, you've accepted your lot in life, you're not going to try any more, you've killed that little angel on your shoulder telling you that you should be doing something better with your time, you can finally enjoy your vidya in peace.

Spent all my time chasing ass. I still gamed, but it wasn't as important as getting drunk and fucking. Did a lot of both and was a bit of a douche and ultimately ended with little to show. Probably should have at least built a useful skill line mechanical or technical knowledge of some sort. But i did learn that getting laid is just law of averages and practice. You increase you chances by getting out there, and the more you get out the more you practice your social skills which ultimately turns you from constantly spilling your spaghetti to someone who can hold a convo. Long as you have the will to accept your mistakes and not keep making them.
    >people like to talk about themselves give them a chance to and they'll think you're cool to hang with

This year I've actually had loads of fun with vidya. More so than any other recent year save for a big release once or twice a year.
    >Jagged Alliance 3, great character banter, fun system, makes me want to try 2.
    >Hi-Fi Rush, fun little action game with the OSTOTY. Lighthearted comedy that doesn't shove anything super political down your throat. Jokes actually fucking land.
    >System Shock Remake, solid recreation of the original game with no shitty cut corners. Made me replay SS2 for a bit and cautiously hyped for a SS2 remake.
    >Armored Core 6, fun arcade-style mecha game in fucking 2012+11.
    >Baldur's Gate 3, Act 1 and 2 are greatodaze. An arguably-AAA competent WRPG in 2023.
    >RE4Remake, besides the shit Ada VA and yellow paint on everything another well done remake.
    >Risk of Rain Returns, tired of the remakes but atleast this one is also well done. Desperately needed just like System Shock 1, adds actual working multiplayer, more survivors, alt skills for all survivors, and new items.
