Those sculpts look really frgiggin sick. What did bretonnia had that was different than the empire other than loads of good cavalry and no guns, btw?

Technically they were supposed to have knights on dragons, stags and magic knights who shot water magic, robin hood super archers, elves, as well as merchant mercenaries supplementing them unchivalrously with gun units in times of need and shit but for some reason they hamstrung bretonnia with a 10 year old codex which was just monty python jokes.

not him but in their first book heroes could ride dragons, griffons, hyppogriffs, pegasus and for whatever reason wyverns and manticores. this is a bit of a moot point though as outside of dwarfs and lizardmen, pretty much every faction's heroes could ride these things.

      >loads of good cavalry
iirc they were not just good cavalry, the bretonians worshiped the lady of the lake and she gave them power in return. It was kinda implied that it was something along the lines of how chaos worshiper gain power, just more nobel looking
The knights were not just some dude on a horse, they were jacked up with blessings and suppossed to be almost hero level by lore standards

It's not that the overall design that's the problem, it's that they look like cheap, low-poly renders you'd find on etsy. Maybe they look better once put to plastic, but those look real rough as is.

The primary issue with showing renders like this is that they fail to sell the impression of actual in-hand scale, so they look under-detailed. Ironically a lot of 3D print mini designers go far too detailed in an attempt to make good renders, and the resulting minis are a pain in the ass to paint.

This is it. There are a lot of 3D print sculptors that don't quite understand the level of thickness you have to hit, and what is too far. That guy is erring on the side of too far.

I would add to this: 3D renders have an odd visual effect that tricks the eye a bit. If you print many of those models, you'll find they're a lot, lot thinner than the render would suggest.

You see this on renders generally, it's probably why GW doesn't do them. I'd guess that 99% of GW stuff would look just as blocky.

Marketing Return to the Olde World must be tricky. They have to make it appealing to an audience of oldgays who have no reason to buy the same army again (which is partially why WHFB got canned in the first place) and/or make it appealing to new customers via nostalgia for a thing they never played to such an extent they'll pay 2020s GW prices for entire fantasy battle armies of 32mm rank&flank, or try and grab the Total War Gankerermin who having the attention span of a gnat and little interest in paying, assembling and painting.

Age of Sigmar might be the best fantasy setting ever written, the characters have been expanded on from the old world and have deep meaningful interactions and motivations, chaos is a fleshed out faction that doesn't just exist to do bad things, same with death and destruction. The multitude of infinite realms allow for infinite possibilites where your dudes really can be your dudes. Places like Anvilguard are so fleshed out as to conjure visions of what it would be like to live there upin reading the smallest amount about them. The artwork is fantastic and the maps are detailed.

Unfortunately it is mired by the screeching of Grogs who never bought models for Whfb and secondaries who play total war, which is ironic since the game itself is basically the best GW game ever made, perhaps even top 3 tabletop wargames ever.

Hopefully when the old world fails (again) we can all just give up on that dead setting (Gav Thorpe knew it was shit and rightfully pushed to have it destroyed. Only a real genius like him could have predicted the sucess of AoS).

I have no horse in the AoS vs WHFB thing.
This does bring in the question of AoS players, who might be entirely new. Is GW trying to get them to also buy the olde world stuff? You seem like an AoS fan who isn't likely to buy any of this project.
It just doesn't seem like a good business move. Might be being too rational about it though.

I'm not new to fantasy but am new to tabletop when I bought into AoS third.

I have no incentive to go into ToW. I'd rather play more AoS with little time I have, and I enjoy AoS in it's current state. The best incentive for me to buy into Fantasy is if everything converts over (provided the army existed in fantasy, and my favorite one doesn't), is cheap, and the game length is less than an hour hour. 2/3 I'm really doubting, and I'm not seeing any reason to replace my AoS time with Fantasy time.

I hope it gets enough support and has a good community tho.

That makes sense and seems like it would be the common enough reaction.
I don't mainline any GW game, haven't for ages. I get some models and bits that I really like to use for other games, so there might be something out of ToW but its not a thing I'll be supporting much.

The guy you're talking to doesn't even really play anything, most likely.

The truth is, the overall success of these lines has less to do with specific lore, but rather how they are marketed and pushed. GW knows there is and always will be a huge buyer base for their more classic designs - this is why they've been gradually trying to make AoS more like Fantasy over he years. The question is whether they push it in a sane way.

Why do you fricking morons always bring up this weird argument that because people play the vidya, there's absolutely no chance they'll buy and paint minis? It's like you have this weird delusion that people's interest can never cross over into other hobbies. Because I play Total War Warhammer I am, according to your delusionaly thinking, actually LESS LIKELY to buy and paint models based on my favorite characters from there after being exposed to the world. Because people who play vidya definitely don't constantly buy little figures and stuff for their desk EVER, right? You go to any guy who's big on vidya, there's no way you'd EVER see a shelf full of figures and toys and statues all from characters in games they play, right? Their walls and shelves are entirely barren of all such products because after all, why would they ever possibly buy anything like that when they own the vidya, right?

NTA but video game fans might more likely to buy models than the average rando, but that’s still an incredibly low amount. The two hobbies, while being aesthetically similar, are wildly different. Tabletop gaming, for better or for worse, is a very different experience than vidya, and it’s not unreasonable to expect that the majority of people who enjoy warhammer vidya and meme videos and whatnot wouldn’t actually enjoy the tabletop version that much. I don’t expect all call of duty players to join the national guard, even if they might be slightly more likely to.

Honestly no, mostly because I don't see myself playing it. At most I'd pick up some bretts for a painting project but I can probably find just as ornate knights elsewhere for cheaper
              >Why didn't you get an AoS army?
See above: I am not your case study no matter how hard you're trying to force me to be.
              >there's likely something to that.
And my point was the situations are hardly comparable, given people getting introduced to WHF were getting introduced to a dead world. There's actually a funny little parallel in the anime industry: a mobile game called Kemono Friends came out and was going to have a tie-in anime, but the game was shuttered before the anime got produced so Kadokawa gave the anime a shoestring budget and zero corporate oversight. This allowed the director to do whatever he wanted with the anime and he ended up producing something with so much love and heart in it that it developed a cult following of people looking to snap up any Kemono Friends merch they could find. Of course, Kadokawa fricked that up by firing the guy responsible for spinning straw into gold as they tried to gain more corporate control over Kemono Friends projects going forward and instantly murdered all goodwill he had developed for them, but it was a very similar a corporation caught with their pants down at someone making what corporate had written off as a defunct franchise super popular.

Hell, even despite all the drama surrounding the fallout of the first season there's STILL Kemono Friends content and merch being developed. Sometimes shit just resonates with people.

I'm watching Darktide pull various people (back) into 40k right now too.

Impressive, given how mediocre to outright bad that game is. It did make me want to buy some ogryn, I'll admit

A case study for 40K vidya sure. Which has parallels to the WHF but is hardly equivalent. If they had made a videogame about old squats and then released Votann you might have some better comparisons to make between the two franchises.
                >makes sense retrospectively.
My guess is they're also using it as a place to shove factions they had no intention of introducing to AoS but still want to make money off of, like Tomb Kings and Bretts. Maybe some light crossover rules so you can carry your TOW minis forward into building out an AoS army since I also think GW might be trying to pull off another Horus Heresy "prequel" game that has juuuust enough shared models with an AoS faction that you have the start of an army but still need to pad it out with AoS exclusive stuff and lose access to some of your TOW stuff.

                >Impressive, given how mediocre to outright bad that game is. It did make me want to buy some ogryn, I'll admit
Might also be that they don't really need people to play the game, they just need people to buy the plastic men.

I just mean I'm somewhat impressed people played Darktide and wanted to get into 40K, but not that surprised since what the game lacks in features or respect for the player it makes up for in atmosphere.

How they end up mixing in ToW with AoS or not will be interesting to watch. It seems like they could easily accidentally split their market but also accidentally lose the grogs if it is AoS compatible. Might be onto something by trying to sell the same models to two audiences with different rules, or even the hat trick of someone who buys both rulesets.

                >they could easily accidentally split their market but also accidentally lose the grogs if it is AoS compatible
Eh, if it's one-way compatible then grogs probably won't care. Some might even smug about being able to use their BASED TRVE WARHAMMER armies to dab on AoS. HH is again a good example of this, especially admech. 30K Admech gets access to a whole bunch of toys 40K Admech doesn't get and simultaneously 30K is locked out of all the "davinci" units 40K Admech gets. They could easily do the same with Bretts where ToW gets more grounded ornate knights while AoS gets I dunno, knights riding six-legged pegasi wielding grails that shoot laserbeams or whatever aesthetic it is AoS goes for.

Not sure if many HH admech players are also 40k admech players. It definitely seems like HH was a 40k refugee camp for a bit, has that merged with the GW HH stuff and 2nd ed recently?
ToW to AoS wise it just seems like a smaller market already so splitting it would be detrimental.

                >Not sure if many HH admech players are also 40k admech players.
There's plenty of 40K Admech players wanting access to Legio Cybernetica units. Whether it's because they already have them and want to use them or want an excuse to buy them is a bit of a chicken or egg argument I think.
                >ToW to AoS wise it just seems like a smaller market already so splitting it would be detrimental.
I agree. I think ToW in general was a half-wienered scramble to capitalize on TWW's (now fading) success/popularity that they probably took way too long to push out, but we'll see. That said, I think double-dipping is more akin to hedging your bets than splitting your player base. Sort of like how all the new HH space marine tanks have rules in 40K and all the new assassins can likewise be used as Imperial Agents in 40K. It's a way to double-dip rather than splitting fanbases.

An other problem is that most of the grogs or the TWW player really motivated to get into the tabletop are either getting proxies or 3D printing minis for a fraction of GW price.

Never said it wasn't. In fact I'm not even sure if it's a marketing/balance thing instead of just sheer incompetence. I'm just pointing out that it happens.

I think you're onto something with the doubling up angle. I started out skeptical of the entire thing but with that, Ganker tie ins being a better idea than it seemed on the surface and all the stolkholm syndrome grogs, it might just work.

They kind of shot themselves in the foot by going TOO far back in the past, though. No chance for any of your favorite vidya memelords to get any models to consoom, though I'm sure there'll be tons of Stormcast/Empire kitbashes to make your own Balthasar Gelt out there.

GW is pretty dumb on vidya tie-ins in general. They could've easily done a Darktide themed Killteam set where you have a team Inquisitorial Convict-Conscripts vs Nurglite Traitor Guards. Even with my poor opinion of Darktide I'd still be sorely tempted by minis borrowing from the game's designs. They really need to plan that shit out better. Or not, for the sake of my wallet.

Seems like a combination of alan bligh dying before fires of cyraxis was finished, which would have given 30k mechanicum units 40k rules, some kind of strange beef between FW and GW proper, and probably some departmental KPI chicanery mixed together. If they just quit it they'd both sell more FW product for 40k use, make 30k more accessible and sell more product overall, but they don't because some homosexual managers will get butthurt about it.

I am just going by this thread and the /whf/ thread, so grains of salt by the bucketfull, but while there will be all kinds of lore inconsistency and things to whinge about, it doesn't seem like that will be stopping many people from buying the models. I think they're just leaning into
                >our fanbase will buy whatever we do
and it sort of seems like it will work.
They can always release the popular characters later as special models and dlc rules later.

It shouldn't be that much trouble since I'm sure there'll be a fair amount of dudes like me who thought Sigmar was too shit a setting to get into and have been waiting for a game like this to come out.

If you're an oldgay you probably had all the shit hanging around anyway, so why the frick are you waiting on this? If you were sick of Warhammer as a game system and wanted something better, why the frick are you waiting a GW product?

I was a kid without rich parents, and then a teenager still without rich parents. WHFB had a ridiculous investment cost to begin an army, costing several hundred Canadian dollars, making hundreds of models that all have to be assembled and painted.
From a gameplay perspective, I don't really think I liked the idea of a rank n' flank game, but I was probably dumb. I do remember that the rulebook was a hefty doorstopper that was waay too complex.
From a model perspective, there weren't any big centerpiece or vehicle miniatures to attract me, the style wasn't for me, and I couldn't see the quality of the minis all stacked up in rank n' flank.

Aos is only a money maker because gw hyper supported it and made new shit for it constantly for the first few years of its life. If the return of fantasy was supported similarly and not fricking set in a doomed timeliness (not even thousands of years before, literally all the elf/ immortal characters are still there just younger and dumber) it's set just a couple generations before Karl Franz anyway. Bullshit that doesn't appeal to the total war fans, the vermintide fans, the old fans or the aos fans.

I don't have a problem with historicals, I get the appeal of trying to build a "real" army made up of the things that army really had. The closed story aspect as well as the less potential and potential for growth is another like you predicted.

For example, where does the old world go? One thing that really hurt fantasy was that gw was really slow in adding new units or machines to the game, something they started to do at the end but then they killed the setting. It has zero growth potential and no room to grow.

And character wise it's just kind of lame to me, this can only appeal to a small niche side of an already niche community instead of being much broader.

The old world still ends in the way we know, and there can never be new characters and new designs. No new constructs under the sand, no new war engines of the empire. Anything like that. It feels really bad to me, but that is just me.

                Anonymous

Okay, I get what you mean.
I understand in a way. Playing Battletech as a future historical has likely inured me to implausible timeline inserts, new things no one has heard of before but are suddenly there, etc.
I'd expect, if ToW manages to get going, that adding new war engines and characters will happen. Wouldn't bother me as much, although in a smaller game world like warhammer fantasy it does get more difficult to stretch and twist.
                >characters are lame/niche thing
That is for sure a thing I'm confused about too, the entire attempt seems like a weird attempt at a customer base I don't understand. But it might just be something really simple like

Do you have any interest in historicals or is it a similar problem there?

I definitely think there were aspects of WHFB that were fundamentally, "wrong." The world was ALWAYS doomed, The End Times were always going to happen, (albeit some kind of different End Times story) it was constantly promised to the audience across countless rulebooks and novels. Nothing got better, everything got worse. Every victory was a temporary reprieve, every loss a permanent reduction. This seeped into every story and narrative.
And I just don't think that's appealing. The world was just too grimdark, miserable, doomed and not really worth saving. The End Times can almost be seen as a positive thing, like a dying animal finally being put out of its misery. I'm not joking, I really somewhat feel like that.
Notice how Total War: Warhammer is super-popular and does not have that overall doomed tone and message to the setting. True victories are incredibly difficult, a constant uphill battle, but it is possible. You can cancel the apocalypse.

This touches on another fundamental issue of WHFB with such a, "limited," defined and mapped out setting. Any battle or war that destroys something is permanent, that city or province is permanently reduced. A big important city for the Empire can't be invented out of nowhere for some campaign, and any named city can't really be permanently destroyed because that invalidates player armies and changes the setting too much. There's only like a dozen big cities in the Empire, GW and players can't really threaten to destroy it and be believed.

            Anonymous

Eh, this is a little misleading. Prior to the End Times a chaos victory was not considered a given in WHFB like it is in 40K. In fact, remember, the ending to End Times feels rushed because it was - originally, the idea wasn't to end the world, but to heavily damage it, shake up the status quo, and keep going.

The entire reason AoS' launch was so botched is that it was an incredibly last minute pivot from what was originally intended there.

The idea a real map that isn't infinite causes meaningful problems is a bit of a spook post too. Literally no game has ever had an issue with this. People make up their own narratives no matter what.

Anon, the fact that End Times wasn't even originally intended as the actual end proves you wrong by itself. Any "and there will be naught but the cruel laughter of etc etc etc" quotes are as present in AoS as they were in Fantasy.

You don't even have to touch any Chaos books to run across the fact that the world is fricked. It's plain as day in the Lizardmen books and the High Elf books go into detail about how their measures to keep winds of magic at bay are slowly crumbling.
It's 40k where the end was everyone's guess. WHFB was always fricked outside of Nagash killing everyone and declaring himself president of the Deathnostate for life, and I'd hardly call that "non-fricked".

                This is more recent.

None of those anons but I always took that as a call to tragic heroism against the dying of the light rather than skipping right to the end. ymmv but the smaller personal struggles, violence and heroism in a grim and doomed world are about meaning through action rather than fatalism, or even armies of fatalists fighting their heroic opponents.
Even further into that, that's a quote from StD iirc, which while an interesting and cool book, also is written from the unreliable narrator side of daemonic chaos, thus taking the word of daemons at face value and deciding the world is doomed is really falling for their bit. That's more a narrative fun thing, there are likely a variety of sources with similar but conflicting variations. I get that unreliable narration really gets some people though. Never been a problem with fantastical games of the imagination for me but my autism doesn't seem to manifest that way.

                >None of those anons but I always took that as a call to tragic heroism against the dying of the light rather than skipping right to the end.
That's great, however it's not the point. The world was doomed long before the end times.
                >Even further into that, that's a quote from StD iirc

What the inevitable end of WHFB was, was mostly irrelevant to anyone playing it. This is merely about a few legitimate secondary being arseblasted that WHFB was fricked from the start while also being too stupid to understand that it didn't fricking matter.

If they did various starter sets with 2 armies set in different periods of time it could be cool. The rules would be compatible so people who aren't as concerned can have the tomb kings fight the elves that didn't exist yet, and the more versimilitudinaly inclined can have various fantastical historical campaigns to play. Don't think they'll do that, but seems like it would work.

nta but $50 for a book every 3-4 years (for most armies) isn't a ton. The initial buy in cost for the models is the real pain point. GHB every 6 months is annoying too but easy enough to just print shit off wahapedia or use a friend's book.

I hate the book model moreso because of how much you can get fricked if your book shows up too late in an edition or too soon. If they were all updated initially in one wave when the new edition launched it would be 100x better.

DoK are consistent high sellers. Lumineth were high sellers while they were indisputably top tier and could just steamroll over people with magic cheese.

As much as I like the game, I'm not going to dispute that people seem to much prefer the older aesthetics.

Still not sure where you get that part from. From the internal perspective of the characters in the gameworld, who have no ultimate knowledge of the setting, their actions have meaning and their struggles have consequence. You're unable to separate your knowledge as a consumer of the fictional setting from the imaginary world of the inhabitants.

              >Prior to the End Times a chaos victory was not considered a given in WHFB like it is in 40K
You got it twisted. WHFB was doomed as a setting from the moment the gates were broken, the realm of chaos started flooding into the world and the Old Ones decided to wash their hands of this mess. But that was fine, who gives a shit about stuff that happens in a hundred or a thousand years? It's a setting, not a story.

              >not fricking set in a doomed timeliness
              [...]
              [...]
              [...]

              >There's only like a dozen big cities in the Empire, GW and players can't really threaten to destroy it and be believed.
I don't give a shit about what GW does and a group can destroy whatever fricking cities it desires in a campaign. "Advancing the Setting" is entirely newhomosexualry, 20 years ago everyone was rightfully hostile whenever GW tried to do that shit.

            >hilgenhugle was razed by axeeater the III in ABC but rebuilt by Brickbiter the IX in XYZ
There's likely a limit to plausibility of events that's going to vary by reader though. Not even sure how many of the people who play the game do a deep dive on the lore enough to track years and events to the extent they can semi accurately critique production cycles of the fantastical world.
For sure having the End Times as an actual game event players had anything to do with was a bad idea though. I've never had problems with 'knowing' the end of a story or whatever, though it really does seem to get some people's goats. Did you ever play warhammer or is this an outsider perspective?

Ww2 really happened. Collecting an army consisting of real units and forces is interesting.

The old world never happened. Its basically tunnel visioned on one very limited time of a huge fantastical world. Its not historical, its just lame as shit. It doesn't even have the same "collect how the legions were before they all changed radically" thing that horus heresy has with all the unique units and army set up from that era of the 40kverse.

This is from a guy who wanted to play fantasy battles when I was 10 but was way too poor, so I played small games for 40k instead whilst watching the amazing sight of wfb I'm my local store. I had the rule book, I played shadow of the horned rat. I even bought some fantasy blister packs because I could afford those. I had a tomb priest and an empire general.

When I was leaving for college I finally started my high elf army and then, out of the blue and 1000 points in age of sigmar happened.
My high elves were compatible but the setting and gameplay was awful in aos 1e. And to see the world I obsessed over get destroyed out of the blue sucked. I think people forget how bad it was handled.

I legit don't understand why AoS people are so desperate for this to fail. Or why they're so blind that they can't see how this will interface with AoS. You guys really think this won't have a Beastman release and it won't be compatible with AoS?

It's inevitable that this shit will be pushed as cross-compatible between both games, thus becoming extremely easy to sell to as wide an audience as possible.

      Anonymous

As a genuine AoS fan who never really cared about Fantasy, I hope it does well, but I suspect GW is either going to treat it as basically HH 2.0 or if it does get spun off into a full game then it or AoS will be cannibalized for the other. Neither of these are ideal.

      Anonymous

WFB is 100% guaranteed to die, the only thing reviving it does is help kill AOS. Beastmen, daemons, daughters of khaine, kharadons, fyreslayers, fishboys, flesheater courts, vampires and 90% of factions in AOS get 0 releases per year. There's only 3-4 factions not being totally neglected. AOS is close to death, WFB stealing relleases from AOS could end both games.

Maybe I don't check out AoS threads enough, but it seems like they don't really care and it's either some Fantasy players and/or shitposters posting about how TOW is going to kill AoS.

Warhammer Fantasy is a well loved setting with great games and books and unforgettable characters, it has inspired fans to create high quality fanart and quests and spend countless hours in deep conversation about the history and world. It doesn't matter what GW does with the IP because the setting has captured the imagination of millions just like LOTR before it. What are the fruits of AoS? Some underage bans who can do nothing but b***h on forums? Fairweather fans who's only contribution to the fandom is to produce some excel spreadsheets and talk endlessly about their love of money because they have no love for the setting? The same people who will abandon AoS when it hits a rough spot and move onto the next big thing?

While there definitely are some battered housewives, I just don't see any new players seeing they need to paint blocks of 40 guys priced at $100 per 10 and jumping in.

Horus Heresy is actually not that expensive to get into because of the starter set and general switch to plastic. I imagine Old World is going to be the same, launching with a Brets vs Tomb Kings plastic starter set. All comes down to the rules though, if they keep the 6th edition model count things will hopefully be fine.

I probably wouldn't even make an full army, but even though GW can go frick themselves, if they released dwarf models that are like the old school ones, I am 100% buying them. Not a lot, probably a little brick of guys and like two characters. But I'm buying them.

Doesn't even have to sell a whole army if a block costs whatever it does.

The Bretonnian Knights kit is much older than (most of) the WHFB plastic kits that are still in production for AoS. They still look alright today thanks to the relative simplicity of the design and being good sculpts for the time (I want to say they're Perry models but I'm not sure), but they are definitely starting to show their age.

For sure there will be a lot of old kits simply being thrown back into production though, almost every plastic kit from 7th and 8th still holds up well today. I expect much of the Tomb Kings range to be reprints of old kits for example since they got a fairly big refresh at the time - but their basic skeletons are kind of shitty so I think they'll get a new core box.

          Anonymous

yes the perry bros did most of the bretonnian range, including these
Big reason gw never did anything new with them until the game was canned is the perrys leaving, probably.

The Perry's did the range those replaced.

          > fairly big refresh

The only TK units to receive a refresh were the Tomb Guard and a new weapon option for Ushabti that was horrible in-game. Everything else was either a new creation or models that were old as balls, with half the range still in metal/fineshit.

The problem with the newer units is that they were mechanically horrible and did not match the existing 6E playstyle, or were just not functional within the 8E ruleset. Necropolis Knights are the one that sticks out as being thematically very silly but mechanically very strong, and so suddenly every TK army ever started building up multiple boxes of them just to avoid getting tabled.

    Autistic questioning anon here.
After reading this thread and talking with a lot of people about why they're buying or not and the various factors I have shifted from not being sure what the sales plan was and thinking no one would bother to being fairly sure the sales plan is
    >just keep making it, they'll buy it
and it will likely work. There's about as many
    >I will buy this
from returns and newcomers compared to people who won't.
It would be interesting to see what the projected net is and compare that to what happens but I don't think we'll ever see that.
Anyway, thanks for responding earnestly to those who did, it was interesting to read your perspectives and reasons.

      >from returns and newcomers compared to people who won't.
I think your data is going to be skewed a bit, negatively too because Ganker is one of the few places on the internet you can actually shit on GW.

      more thoughts:
From what I've seen it's round base warhammer which means it's just going to be the AoS rules on a WHFB setting.
Usually people point to the rules as the best part of aos and the worst part of WHFB (atleast for new people) with total warhammer still being reasonably popular i think you're going to have a pretty big community.
the only question is are they going to produce a stillbirth it like they did heresy 2e.
      >no support
      >few releases
      >terrible rules and balancing.
it will have a big fomo surge but those will determine if it actually stays.

Prints me one okay looking model for my army. I accept more to be nice and seem interested.
Go home to prime and paint it. Anything that isn't part of the main body just seem to snaps off in an instant. Even fairly solid pieces like the weapon just snapped in two.
