I can run Control at 720p60fps, which is more than enough for me, I'll be happy if Alan Wake 2 is the same, but Control is a last gen game. I'll take 720p30, but I'm worried I won't even get that.

You can use a dev mode in the launch options to unlock the highest difficulty for your first playthrough if you want, not possible on the EGS version.

Yeah. The fact that you have to go through the same (few) areas twice, no, three times was such a lazy design. And there was very little of exploration from what I recall. After having finished Alan Wake I was looking forward to more content so jumping straight into American Nightmare was a given but I wish I hadn't done that. PS5, Xbox Series and PC. I loved Control, I'd say it's worth it. It was (fairly) criticized for not having many boss fights and not that many enemies, but if you're used to Remedy standard enemy and boss variety, you'll most likely have a very pleasant surprise like I did.

This game is pretty good overall. Interesting story and solid gameplay.
I feel like the successfully pulled off the obvious homage to television-show aesthetics, but actually a few details made it especially enjoyable. The Pacific Northwest location was particularly nostolgic for me since I would visit family there, all the lumber-mill mountain town vibe was very charming. Also the graphical visuals for the darkness and light effects were very well done.
The story comes across as hokey but it's charming in it's own indulgent way. I can forgive and enjoy the meta-theme "story about characters who write a story about writing a story about characters" when ultimately I am not sure what relatable human drama it was supposed to convey (maybe something like "sacrifice yourself to save your wife"?). Overall it's cheesy but enjoyable. Barry is consistently great.
As far as gameplay, there are enough little annoyances that stand out but I feel like they did the best they could and it certainly might have been way worse. I played through the whole game on easy mode to minimize annoyances but I think if I ever replayed it I could do Nightmare now that I know the strategy. The core shooting gameplay is actually "resource/aggro-management", since they frequently pit you against a swarm of enemies. Since you have limit stamina for evades, limited ammo (plus reloading takes non-trivial time and evading interrupts reloading), limited batteries (recharges over time but you can eat them for instant energy), you end up having just enough tools to fight off the shadow enemies if you play well. And they give you plenty of flares/bangs as get-out-of-jail-free cards.

The human element, the way I see it, is about wrestling creative control, having to follow editor's demands while still trying to stay true to your vision. Alan can't just write himself victorious, and neither can the dark presence breathing down his neck, they need to find harmony, the story needs to stay true to itself. No matter how much power the editor holds over him, they still know the game won't sell if there's no genuine quality in there, they can't just force it to be designed by commitee. Alan is trying to bring the story he envions to light while still having to accomodate for the publisher's demands.
As the writer himself said, "it's no coincidence we called this game that we own and we're making on our own terms, Control".
picrel for example I believe is them saying that it's still worth fighting for it. Don't give up on your story, keep trying to get as close to your vision as you can, even if some compromises are to be expected. Don't just give in at the first sign of resistance from your editor/publisher/agent/whatever, you can still make your dream story happen.
Even as they were on tour promoting Control, so two games away from Alan Wake, and no particular reason to push it, Sam Lake was saying that Alan Wake was his favorite of his "children", the one game he was the proudest of. So it's not just them being hopeful for the future, they're conveying their experience with this very title.
