As always it's not that simple, it depends on what you're looking for. The world is pretty fun to explore but that's undermined by the game looking and running like utter shit 90% of the time. Being able to choose the order you do stuff is pretty fun but it's extremely obvious that they want you to do a bit of everything piece by piece since there are facets of gameplay tied to each storyline. Level requirements are locked behind gyms, movement abilities are locked behind Titans, and TM accessibility is largely locked behind Team Star bases. Doing all the gyms first and leaving the other two for last would be a fricking chore because you'd have nothing but level up moves and the few mediocre TMs you find in the overworld, half of which would be inaccessible since you wouldn't be able to properly explore without movement abilities. And ignoring gyms would be borderline impossible since your Pokemon would start disobeying you.
tl;dr fun to explore but undermined at every opportunity, you'll be playing to the game's fiddle before long
No, not really. There are better uses of 60 dollars. The postgame is worse than usual, the graphics are on par with some of the nicer Wii games, the battle animations barring some "ooh look at this" are still generic and basically your pokemon hops around and does damage, not a dynamic action. Your favorite might be randomly dexited, the lack of level scaling combined with always on Exp. Share means you have to avoid playing the game too much or you'll easily overlevel and remove any challenge from it. The story gets dumb, you can never wear anything other than 4 variations of your school uniform and some hats and socks. They tried to do a lot of new things, but they executed most of them poorly.
Runs poorly, not very pretty, the non linear route isn't really working that well lvl scaling wise, lot's of QoL and simplifications making the game really easy.
It's still fun, even though fun is subjective, tho it's not worth at full price.
there are better open world games and better pokemon games. play a romhack or something

I like Pokemon games and it is disappointing on pretty much every metric.

It's an open world Pokemon game, but with no level scaling and worse graphics and performance than PLA; simultaneously, it's a traditional Pokemon game, but with a worse (or weirder) Pokedex and post-game than SwSh and little thought or effort put into its world. Also the music is awful for some reason, I really don't know how that happened. It seems like they tried to do context-sensitive music and failed spectacularly.
The best things I can say about it are that stall is dead and raids are much faster, at least in singleplayer. There are also a handful of good designs. If that sounds like a good Pokemon experience to you, go for it.

world exploration fun, story mid, if you want to play just emulate it's not worth $60.
I've been worried about the frame rate since these games were announced. I'm not expecting Gamefreak to EVER do 60 fps...thats just asking too much from "small indie company". However, I was hoping it would at least be locked at 30. It's a bare bones RPG, how hard can it be?
If you want exploration like in Legends Arceus and SMT5, its good. If you want a challenge, its shit. You are better off focusing mostly on catching pokemon again.
Its worth pirating and trying it out, I am still having fun. It's not garbage like SWSH or BDSP if anything.
