Little blue tooth keyboard is nice I have one that fits in the case I got for a quarter from a boomers yard sale
The dock
What else do you need? Maybe a micro SD card or a controller for your dock
Its a neat little device that can do alot of things I use it as a portable media center and to play video games at gfs house after I plow her and she passes out
I want to get a silicon case but I am afraid of the heat dispersion. I don't know if heat will be stuck between the silicon and deck same with a hard case
Proper cases won't cover vent holes so it'll be fine theres one thats like a wii mote condom and you could put a skin over it if you wanted it to look cooler
I'm also looking for thumb stick suggestions. Wheres two fingers black bro when you need him
If you use the official case you'll have to take stick accessories off everytime you put it in the case unless you mean just swapping out the stick entirely. Plenty of options for both though if you want something more unique looking but lacking in quality go Etsy if you want something more standard just look at Amazon or whatever and sort by price and reviews
I play while enjoying my time in my hot tub. why? because I aint poor. poor people really are not imaginative to see the usage of master handheld console.
I recently went on a road trip with friends from NYC to Maine for our friend's wedding. I brought my Steam Deck along with a couple of controllers and we played Mortal Kombat 11 during breaks.
So, is the colossal energy wastefulness just inherent to the apu design?
My phone runs on a 15.5 watt hour battery, a screen 80% the size of the deck's at 2k (though I doubt the pixel count matters much for power consumption). I can very easily get 20h out of it doing menial shit like videos, browsing, or light vidya.
The n3ds got 6.5 wh and also very easily does under a watt an hour.
But the deck? A minimum of 4 just for the apu alone, and at least another for the screen, sound and guts. So if the stars align you get an ideal 8h out of the 40wh battery.
This is very gay. Almost makes me wish it had a redundant arm cpu for low power mode where it would do 30h plus.
It's planned obsolescence, and I hate it. They purposely make everything crap, so they can have it wear out faster and make you rebuy a later revision. Heaven forbid anyone ask for better battery life, noooo. We need touchpads and fancy glowing lights and rumble support and gyro. Who cares if the damn thing runs out of juice after 30 minutes?

>plays AAA video games >Wonders why it drains the battery so fast
We've got a mystery here gang
Are you fucking retarded moron? I'm asking why the fucking thing doesn't do effortless tasks at sub 1w like other modern gear can. Nobody is fucking asking for AAA slop at 5wh.
>make effort post >80 iq troglodyte scrolls by and shitposts without reading more than a sentence and using his imagination for the rest >tell troglodyte he is a retarded moron >troglodyte acts offended and misunderstood
Many such cases, way too fucking many. This is why posting at mutt hours is seldom worth it.
your phone and the 3ds are both ARM based. they were designed from the outset for performance per watt
thats not the case for x86 or desktop GPUs. power efficiency was never a big concern there and the games the steam deck is intended to run are all x86
I obviously lack insights into distinguishing features for architectures beyond the basics. Seems weird that in the 25 if not 35 years of x86 a redundant subset of low power features was never implemented for the notebook market which is the same age as the architecture.
I know some work is getting done because CPU power use hasn't escalated as extremely as Nvidia's obscenity over the last two decades.
I know this is off topic but, are you trans by any chance?

I accept your concession little gay, you can crawl away in shame now.
Next time read before posting, making assumptions is clearly too much for your underdeveloped moron brain.

Oh so you are trans? That makes a lot of sense actually. Have a nice day
your phone runs on a completely different architecture. so does the 3ds
it's trying to run x86 desktop games. what do you expect? where have you seen an x86 APU thats more power efficient than what the deck uses?
So the issue is x86 and we are completely fucked until even more ludicrous battery capacity or even finer processor printing scale?
I think subnotebooks achieved comparable run times in the last decade, though ofc not in this price segment. I never looked into their energy efficiency though.

No, this has been discussed to hell and back again but I'll summarize it once more for you. >Steam Deck, Steam OS, and Proton all make your Steam Deck appear as if it's a regular PC to games, unless the games detect the deck and hook onto it specifically >99.99999% of games don't optimize for battery life to begin with, constantly telling the computer "gimmie all you got!" >Because of the first greentext, games will always run the Deck at maximum potential and drain your battery, even if it doesn't actually require it >Issue is easily remedied by toggling TDP and GPU limits in the overlay options, and can be tailored per-game or in general
Anon, he's too retarded to even understand this let alone know that steam deck user can change the TDP at any time so he probably doesn't even own a deck
x86 is pretty power hungry but yeah the deck has plenty of power management options AND you don't need to run every game on ultra. you don't really notice aliasing on a screen that small for example.
I think AA is a bad example, although I agree about other options. The low resolution really needs it. Even on smaller screens like the vita and switch, it’s so noticeable that even 2x AA would vastly improve the visual quality of those games.
Anon, I have been specifically talking of low effort tasks with examples named. None of these are what can be considered unoptimized vidya. The apu itself can not be set below 4 watt. And that four watts is still utterly egregious for what it achieves, fucking blasphemous 2 was casually dropping below 60 at 4 and ran 99% 60 at 5.
The deck is very impressive at 15 watts, AC5 was a treat. But low wattage is still dogshit, just less dogshit than the competition.
Deckmate. Just get the Deckmate base thing and a kickstand. Also the JSAUX case since it has dedicated slots for 5 extra SD cards, and room on the bottom for an Anker charger and 10 foot braided USB cable. There's no need for a dock at all, unless you don't have a PC, as a Deck is a compliment for a gaming PC for when you're not at your desk, not a replacement for one
Wasn't 3.5 with official dualboot support supposed to come months ago? Did they drop support for this just like they did for the link, and controller, and steam machines, and artifact?
I hope a 7840u equivalent model comes out eventually, it's been the perfect processor for everything I play, I wish I could say the z1 extreme was good but the ally has so many issues, and the legion go looks like gimmicky garbage, so nothing good has used it so far, but my GPD win mini and win max 2 (I wish there was a win max 2 with the win mini's keyboard layout) are getting 90% of my playtime still.
I like my steam deck but having to install windows on it is also a huge kick in the nuts to play a few games.
A protective case with a stand. I recommend the benzacap case, the cut outs are perfect, the steam deck still fits in the official carrying case, and it's like 10 bucks.
It uses a generic, readily-available tablet screen to off-set manufacturing costs, although this does give it the advantage of having massive screen real estate for 4:3 and GBA games, just look how big GBA games look on it. It's even better if the game you're playing supports the full resolution, which should be most of them. 16:9 still looks good on it, just smaller by comparison.
I like 16:10 screens, the extra room really makes a difference on portables the size of laptops or smaller imo. Still, I don’t like the black bars on forced 16:9 content like PTDE dark souls that I played on it.
You need the NVMe ssd.
Why would anyone buy this if they already have a gaming PC?
And dont pretend like any of you ever leave your house

I'm a lazy fuck and like to play in bed
when I'm on the toilet
- best controller I've ever used
- you can remap all controls and download controller configs like SteamVR
- Four extra buttons on the back you can map to anything. For DaS3 it was nice to have an actual jump button and a screenshot button
- Cloud saves so you can play a game on your PC and then continue your save laying in bed
- Constant OS updates for compatibility
- Handhelds will run the same games the same way a decade from now, can't guarantee the same with Windows 12 or whatever is next
I play while enjoying my time in my hot tub. why? because I aint poor. poor people really are not imaginative to see the usage of master handheld console.
moron, I’ve travelled out of state for 21 out of the last 30 days, this thing is a god send.
hello truck driver-kun
Nah just a series of family emergencies, unfortunately.
I recently went on a road trip with friends from NYC to Maine for our friend's wedding. I brought my Steam Deck along with a couple of controllers and we played Mortal Kombat 11 during breaks.
Cause I'm in Thailand and want to play vidya too
I like playing in the living room while watching TV with my wife, and I like how fast my save bops over to my desktop and vislce versa
I bought the highest version of this and never played a single game. I literally turned it on once. I can't see the writing in the small print. trash
Remote play your gaming pc in bed
Not really, but the dock plus a gyro compatible controller is pretty nice.
This is the best dock out there.
Fuck, forgot to mention that I am trans

The same problem happens with the vita. I use that thing to emulate SNES games, with all the fancy doohickeys and flashing lights disabled.
>power saving mode on
>flight mode on (this disables blu-tooth, wifi and all general internet access)
>lowest brightness setting
>volume off
And even still I'm lucky to get a few hours out of it, on a full charge.

Not this anon, but I have a few of these things listed and they work great! (the Baseus, power adapter, USB-C extension cable)
HIGHLY recommend. Especially the Baseus. The battery in the Deck is just too weak.
Op here
Is there any holy shit this is amazing accessories?

A protective case with a stand. I recommend the benzacap case, the cut outs are perfect, the steam deck still fits in the official carrying case, and it's like 10 bucks.
