Any other games with a combat similar to Zelda II?

I can't remember any other sidescroller where enemies position themselves moving back and forth instead of moving in predetermined paths or just following you.

Yeah, they are close, but they lack the fluid platforming from Zelda

Ah this thread again, it's only been a few days huh?
Anyway, Monster World 4 corrects all the flaws of Zelda gameplay and gives a far better game with far better combat. Wonder Boy 3 as well.

The enemies in these games behave nothing like Zelda II enemies

      Faxanadu

Really? I don't remember enemies from that game doing anything other than running straight to you your flying around

Not what you asked for at all, pussybreasts. And PoP has pretty damn fluid platforming anyway.

Ignore the Wonderboy autist, nothing comes close to Zelda II.

I've noticed that kids who had the first Zelda but never got to play 2 back in the day absolutely hate it. Same with kids who's first Zelda was alttp, but those ones are even worse in their autism. It's easily the best game on NES

The only similar retro game is battle of Olympus, definitely give it a go if you like Zelda 2
But honestly try hollow knight if you like modern games as well

Seconding, Battle of Olympus was explicitly made as a Zelda 2-alike, right down to the graphic style. It's hard as balls though, the first enemy in the game can't even be hit by your sword except while it's jumping, and it has to be close enough to you that if you don't time it right and kill it, it will hit you. Pretty much need a turbo controller for this shit

In my opinion its only issue is the unavoidable grind for currency the game has

You should certainly try Sword Master if you haven't. I don't think it's exactly what you're talking about, but it has something in common with Zelda 2 and you should play it.

While I'm not sure if it's exactly what you want Shinobi on saturn always reminded me a bit of zelda 2 in that you need to approach common enemies more like an individual duel instead of just an obstacle you chuck a shoryuken at like the earlier games. very unique rhythm as far as side scrolling action games go.
