Because it's tedious. If you want to cook, cook. I'm not trying to play a game and cook all the time. The easier it is to get it done, the better. This is the same as crafting systems in game. The best crafting system is the one where you click "craft" and it does it all. It's better when there's just no crafting system though.

      >It's tedious
No, cooking isn't tedious, people like you fricking are. Fricking mindless bugs that just click on ubereats because "cooking is just too tedious man"

It is anon, in real life maybe not but genuinely having to go through a whole recipe and ritual to get a temporary stamina or health boost in a video game would be annoying and tedious for everyone who isn't an autistic weirdo who'd view it more like spreadsheet collation anyways. Either get a cooking game or accept the simpler cooking mechanics you already have.

This is probably the best point in the thread. Why spend time cooking in a game when you can't eat it?

    >Any reason why cooking systems in games are simplified?
Same reason why any secondary system is simple; it detracts from the main system. Make it essential and it becomes overly tedious. Make it a side addition and people will wonder why you bothered to add the video game equivalent of an appendix. The only way you could add a complex cooking system would be to make an entire game based around it, which comes with its own myriad limitations

well the combat system is simplified too, so why should a secondary system that isn't the focus of the game be more complex than the main system? it would make sense in die by the sword where you have to swing your sword around with your mouse to have a cooking system where you have to cut and mix the ingredients

If cooking is ANY more complicated than having ingredients and selecting them in a menu when I go to a grill or a campfire then I will just not engage with the mechanic
cooking is already made irrelevant in many games that are either easy enough not to bother or the items you buy from the shop are just as good or even better than ones you can cook

not making an endless mini-game like all others was a mistake. just rotate the judges randomly.

BOTW was probably my favorite cooking system in a video game so far. It was simple but it had just enough depth to make it enjoyable without being too overbearing. I like the systems where you can cook one dish and then go on to use it as another ingredient in your next dish.
And the complete inverse, FFXV's cooking system felt like it wasn't even there. I only cared about it because of Ignis constantly screaming I'VE UNLOCKED A NEW RECIPAH and the hi-res food porn renders they'd give you.

There's a reason the best chefs are all men.

Because the novelty of it will run out fast as hell and after that you just wish you could expedite the process.
    >no you don't get it, I'd totally love having to painstakingly chop, grind or peel every single ingredient every single time I'm making a consumable item
No you wouldn't. You like the IDEA of it, but that shit is just not fun gameplay wise.
