too complex for beginners
too simple for most people
too overproduced for the experience but if you want to play some engine building with non-gamers, they eat this shit up, so you could do worse
It's enjoyable once you understand the mechanics of the game, every game is always very close until the end.
They also release new bird expansions every year to keep the metagame interesting.
We took out the Common and Chihuahua Ravens and have considered doing the same for the Killdeer and Franklin's Gull, but haven't yet. Getting one is almost an autowin and getting two is definitely so. We've also considered making a variant based on how nectar scores points at the end of the game where we'd assign a food type to a row and whoever used the most of that food type in that row would score those points just like nectar.
What's everyone's high score? I got 133 points as mine, it was a pre Raven ban game where I had both a Raven and Killdeer and rocked almost 30 points in goals alone.
Yeah I play it on BGA and decided to remove powerful birds, it's not fun to play with. I would love to play with Nectar but the only way to play the Oceania Expansion is to play it physically for now, I heard they will release it on Steam in about a month or two.
My highest score was 110 but I'm a newcomer.
It's alright. Though my biggest criticism is there isn't enough to mess with other players. Like it'd be cool if like a Bald Eagle could eat smaller birds from other players nests. Or Magpies could directly steel resources from other players. Or Vultures give you resources whenever another bird dies.
In the expansions there are birds that steal opponent's food.
My highest is 121. Started with a raven and one of those "tuck a card and earn an egg" birds. Just rocketed up grasslands and wetlands ASAP with high value birds that gave really good ROI.

Hello my friends
I live with my mother and she gets bored sometimes and likes spending time with me for some reason
Should I get wingspan to play with her?
She likes winning
I don't mind it. I'll play it if it's what's being offered but I'm not going to go out of my way to buy it or request it at a game night. Good if you really like birds. I'm not going to call it a "simple" game, but it definitely isn't too difficult to be disuasive.
My problem with it is that the game seems to end a little too early. It's a machine building game, but it takes so long to get things going that buy the time you have the machine built the game is almost over.
it's kinda different with a more focus on competitive auction for the dogs. as well as trying to finish a walk with all the dogs, losing points for any dog that didn't go for a walk.
>I like wingspan but haven't played a lot of other engine builders as far as I know. Any good ones I should look into?
They are different sorts of engine builders. For ones that have you develop a tableau of cards, look into Race for the Galaxy or Innovation.
Played a few times but don't think it's interactive enough for me. Would probably enjoy it if I had someone who could get into the ornithology part of it.
>don't think it's interactive enough for me
I think that's my big problem with it.
It doesn't feel like it matters at all other people are playing the same game as I am at the same time.
>doesn't feel like it matters at all other people are playing the same game
I get this from a lot of games, actually. So I already guessed it, just by looking at pictures of Wingspan.
Maybe I should ask this in the general thread, but what are some more engaging (recent) games?
Its an ok game. Id say the thing it suffers from the most is that, while being an engine builder, you don't get to actually enjoy the engine --- the game is over right when things start to feel like they are working. Combine that with too much randomness and no player interactions, the game can feel very out of your hands.
It also takes a super long time, like 3 hours minimum for 5 players. Like what others said, its strongest point is its attraction and game piece quality, it's easy to get non gamers to try it.
It's on my pickup list. Sell me on it.

Do you play with or without the powerful birds ?
>Do you play with or without the powerful birds ?
We play with.
However we have yet to play with Oceania or that new Asia expansion.

This sounds like dialogue someone would write if they were trying to make fun of autistic board game players.
And I love it. This game is going on my "to-buy" list. How many players needed for a good game?
It's 2 to 5 players but I've heard you can also play alone
twilight struggle remains undisputed for strategy discussions that sound like shitposts
Got any bangers?

>Do you play with or without the powerful birds ?
Are those the ones with the corner colored?
No these are the 2 ravens (discard one egg to get 2 food of your choice) and the killdeer and Franklin's Gull (discard one egg to draw 2 cards)
60+ games logged in 2022 alone

That's an intentional decision though
Anyone played the switch version? Ive never played before but I love deck building card games or card games in general.

Is she into board games? It's a little complicated for someone who really plays none, but she could probably get into it.
Oh yeah but we're too busy actually playing games to argue with a bunch of homosexuals about 40k again

frick birds, its time for dogs to shine
is this literally just Wingspan but with dogs? i know my brother would love it, but i already got him wingspan for last christmas

EIGHTY FIVE DOLLARS
FOR AN EMPTY BOX
I don't think I've ever played Wingspan sober.
It just always seems to be the game people bring out at the end of the night at a house party.
I like ducks
Played a few times but don't think it's interactive enough for me. Would probably enjoy it if I had someone who could get into the ornithology part of it.

Right, that's the feeling I get too.

If you want an engine building game and dont have it, get dominion.
