Anyone else think this is a good or at least decent game?

Anyone else think this is a good or at least decent game? It's too easy and unfinished, but it is fun to blast through a level and the music and visuals are cool.

I feel if this and Sonic R were mainline titles with more development time/bigger budget and were both Saturn titles, things would've been better,

it's fine. zoomers just keep dogpiling on it because it's trendy to do.

It's an okay game. It's mindless, but appealing.

As for Sonic R, it was definitely the best they could've done on the hardware and time constraints. But it's a little surprising that there was never a Dreamcast sequel/follow-up of any kind.

      >But it's a little surprising that there was never a Dreamcast sequel/follow-up of any kind.

Probably the same reason why Sonic Spinball never got a follow-up
Sega had no plans on expanding these spin-offs into sub-series, they've just needed filler Sonic games while Sonic Team was making mainline ones, so they've hired Western developers to do so.
Dreamcast could have more Sonic but it died abruptly so they've only made it in time to release Shuffle, because "muh Mario rivalry".

It did so much fricking good but so much fricking bad. Awesome music, graphics"the colors were an lsd fever dream" probably the best special stage but so much terrible shit the worst being the rubber band gimmick

    This god damn theme though

The terrible sounding PWM ruins the entire soundtrack. The sonic crackers versions of these tracks sound so much better with the crispy ym2612 dac percussion as apposed to the muffled crap of the 32x.

Naw shun that sound track is almost on the level of the 2 sonic cd osts

It's an interesting proof of concept and there is a certain enjoyment in just mindlessly going through the levels with the wonky rubberband mechanic. I'd only feel angry at it had I actually paid money for it back in the day.
I did have Sonic R and I found it fun. Lots of room for improvement of course but as a little racing/platforming blend it was alright. That music though 10/10

I like it, the feeling of movement with the rubberband is great and it's good mindless fun to run around the stages, only problem is it was so fricking rushed they could barely throw together anything to do in the stages. It's made by largely the same team as Sonic CD and it could've been at least that good if SEGA didn't have their thumb in their butt and change its platform like 3/4 times.

Truly the Chaotix of or belong to Knuckles was a hidden gem of its era

No, it isn't good at all. The movement mechanics are fine in theory but the tether mechanic just doesn't add anything, and there's nothing that applies the movement in an interesting way. all of the enemies suck. all of the level designs are bad. That's just too much for interesting movement mechanics to overcome.

Yeah this. The levels feel empty and lifeless. Their layouts all feel pretty much copy pasted

It's not just that they feel that way, they literally were. If you track the prototypes they had practically no levels close to completion until the eleventh hour. SEGA apparently sprung a sudden release date change on them after the 32x launched like a big fat nothing and they hoped a Sonic-affiliated game would salvage it. Chaotix really got caught in the crossfire of SEGA's peak mismanagement years.

There's very few games that I feel deserve the label of "tech demo games", but damn if Knuckles Chaotix isn't one of them. It's so focused on showing off the tricks the 32X could do it forgets to actually be good.

I wouldn't call it decent. They had a working formula already but they departed too much for what was supposed to be a flagship title. With S3&K we had the intrigue of this new character with a mysterious back story. Knuckles blows up the bridge on you but we have no connection to any of the new characters in Chaotix.

Literally its just the stages that suck. The main gimmick is fun if you take a moment to practice. I like playing as Vector with his air dash, wish he had been playable in Mania.

Also even though they brough some badniks back from sonic cd there were like 3 enemies in each level. Like fricking why?

It's my favorite 32X game next to Virtua Racing if it means anything. Unfortunately the Saturn was literally the reason why we didn't get more Sonic games, SoJ wanted to focus it exclusively on arcade ports. Had they just stuck with the SEGA CD and 32X, we would've gotten Sonic Mars, Sonic 16, Treasure Tails, maybe Astropede, and a bunch of other cool games that were planned.

Okay. Not enough to buy a 32x alone. Needs a remaster.

Still wondering why no one decided to do a remake of this game, like it has been for Sonic 3D in 2D. It would come out very nice.

I'd love to see one too, I think part of it is there being no romhacking scene. 32x is still kind of an albatross in terms of technical understanding. Even just to grab all its assets may be difficult.

Everything about it besides the actual gameplay or level design is top tier. Bursting with color and personality.
Just wish that it had an actual fun game inside it.
