Apollo Justice is KINO AF

I will never listen to Ganker again
I just finished the first case of Apollo justice now that the trilogy is out on steam. After years of seeing people say it's a bad game compared to the original trilogy in Ace attorney threads I expected it to be slow and bad like the great ace attorney that I dropped, instead the first case was amazing from start to finish. Banger music, amazing atmosphere and culprit twist that was foreshadowed well.

What the frick happened to Phoenix though ;_; he looks so jaded and bitter. It made me sad to see him like that.

I can't wait to see the other cases. AA rocks and Capcom is goated

    It's all downhill from there.

It's generally agreed that case 1 is awesome, but the rest of the cases are good to fine, no worse than the midgame cases of the prior games and the finale is awesome.

People crying about AJ tend to be mentally stunted trannies that don't even like the series and started with their heckin' 3DS games, bar none the biggest pieces of shit ever made.

oh no no no no no

Enjoy it while it lasts OP. This is literally the only good case in AJ

OP you've been suckered. The rest of the cases fall somewhere between just okay and mediocre. Great Ace Attorney destroys Apollo any day of the week, it's not even a contest.

Now, you want some real kino, you play Ace Attorney Investigations 2.

Nah lmao. Not with this setting, Nayhuta, and case 3 being bad or case 5 having such a weak villain and confrontation. It was just too convoluted for its own good. The real best 3 games of the series are:
            PW:AA
            AAI2
            TGAA2

Even fangames like Contempt of Court and Conflict Of Interest were better than DD and SoJ.

Ok I initially assumed you were talking about the filler case in the rakugo theatre, which was great for not overstaying its welcome and giving us simon blackquill as an assistant and a dose of clussy. But no, case 3 was actually the one where you finally re-uinite with Maya and had a kino twist at the end, bad taste anon.

              Also
              >including the first game as among the best
First game is a solid start to the series but it definitely had teething issues. The conclusion of the second case just had the game outright spell the solution out to you for frick sake. Third case is a massive slog because the devs hadn't figured out how to make investigation sections not shit yet.

Phoenix had a good story going forward as a mentor, but those shitty fricking sequel reset him into a protag with dad jokes.

It's so fricking bad, in DD there is functionally no mentor character, and in SoJ, Phoenix is cucked out of being a mentor by Dhurke and FRICKING SIMON (of all people).

I really liked the aura Phoenix had in AJ. If only it was better written. If only DD and SoJ didn't pussy out by turning him into this half-assed mix of trilogy Phoenix while barely trying to make him act like an actual mentor. I know that the series always acknowledged how he looks more threatening when you can't read his thoughts but it really feels like his AJ self stopped being a thing in the 3ds games. If AA7 really is made they really should keep him in the backseat, kill him, or make a continuation to The Great Ace Attorney or make Investigations 3. The latter would work well in the RE engine

I miss hobo Phoenix too. It felt like such a natural progression for his character. In a world of prestige and stuffed-shirts he's always prevailed thanks to his humility and resourcefulness. It makes sense he would eventually fully embrace these traits.

This is what sold me the first case of AJ before playing the rest and thinking it's a okay just play one time game.
It is not just because you can't read his monologue about some bullshit which happened to be real, HE KNOWS and he only lets slip a little to Apollo learn and develop himself as a lawyer. This Phoenix is awesome, only a few minutes in the court as "Apollo assistant" and he dominates it with a mix of bluffs and confidence whole ten levels higher than what he had in the original trilogy.
I wish the sequels had Phoenix as a "background character", doing his cases but always giving Apollo and Athena some hint to their cases like he already did know everything but didn't want to cut the development of his pupils.

They aren't gonna make a direct sequel to SoJ after all this time, especially when this will be the first Ace Attorney made for home consoles and next-gen.
Plus, Yamazaki has long left Capcom and Takumi doesn't care for the main games, so they'll most likely get a new guy who will make his own thing, but with the popular characters.

I also remember really liking AJ when I finished the first case. I thought hobo Phoenix was awesome, I liked that we had a whole new cast, it felt really good.

But I remember being pretty meh after finishing it. I think a big part of it was that it felt kind of like Apollo was really upstaged in his own game. To avoid spoilers, I'll just say that he doesn't get the last laugh on the game's big villain and the prosecutor he's up against feels like he's on Apollo's side and kind of helping him the entire game. Never felt like an actual adversary.

But it's been god-knows-how-long since I've played it. I don't know how I'd feel if I replayed it today.

Pretty Boy Eurotrash is too pure for this world. He cares more about finding the truth than laying down the law. Though to be fair, if I worked within a legal system as grossly incompetent as Japanifornia's, I also might be too embarrassed to die on some of those hills. IRL every glaring contradiction found during these cases would have been identified by the state long before charges were pressed

Case 1 is definitely the best case in the game, good introduction to Apollo and Hobo Phoenix is my favorite iteration of Phoenix, literally the most based he ever was he even says based years before it originated as a meme which makes it funnier.
Case 2 is written ok but most of the witnesses and suspects are unlikeable, the Mr. Hat hostage segment is moronic, the panties shit they push with Trucy felt too fan-servicey for a brand new character, and Ema Skye became kind of a c**t when she grew up
Case 3 is moronic and full of Wingdings but has a funny cutscene of Gavin getting spooked by his guitar catching fire
Case 4 is also moronic, Kristoph Gavin's entire character arc felt wasted, Klavier felt undeveloped as a threatening prosecutor and spent way too much time acting like Bono, they wrote themselves into a corner and had to turn Phoenix Wright into the host of Unsolved Mysteries to introduce time travel VR simulation bullshit to figure out the rest of the case, also Capcom may or may not have gotten paid by the Japanese government to shill a "trial run" of the lay judge/jurist system and hype it up as a massive change to the dark age of the law, and then it never comes up again in the series because nobody in Japan wanted to take part in the real life system.

The Investigation games mog the entire franchise. Miles is a better protagonist, there's no magical bullshit, just pure science and logic, and Gumshoe is genuinely funny. Being able to physically explore the crime scene and talk to people makes the gameplay feel less dull and the rival characters are all pretty awesome in their own ways. The only downside is Kay's character but that's about it.

AA7 was in the Capcom gigaleak in the same slide that showed they had TGAA and AJ rereleases in the works. Obviously the timeframe is out of whack because this was made years ago and Covid happened, but it definitely exists.

I'm not seeing on there where it says AA4-6 rereleases explicitly didn't exist and weren't being planned. Is that why they were named on Capcom internal documents? Was the guy who made it just having a giggle and adding projects that didn't exist for fun? What the frick is this comment supposed to be?

                >your own picrel says the game was supposed to come out years ago, you illiterate homosexual
Yeah, timescales run over all the time and sometimes things don't go exactly according to plan, you only need to look at all the stories of games in dev hell over the years and doubly so for Covid which set half the gaming industry back two years. Nintendo even wrapped up development on FE Engage more than a year before it launched while they waited for a gap to release it in. I'm not saying the game is ready to go or that development is going smoothly, I'm saying that the project exists and Capcom have explicitly said the series isn't finished yet.

Thank you for confirming you're illiterate. It explicitly says it was not planned.

so GAAC&AA7 shortly after, AJ Trilogy not even planned yet

btw, "quitting" in Japanese companies is how people are fired

Idk if this is too soon but question for anyone playing Dual Destinies, third case did Robin's character arc get butchered by troonyslators? I can't find any gameplay of the case to verify this yet.

Oh, getting to play the first case is indeed very cool.
Then, at the end of the game, some things will happen. No, it's not a simple matter of "the cases being worse". You'll find out.
It's that the last case retroactively ruins the first.

Maya doesn't appear in this game
Edgeworth doesn't appear in this game
Relevant characters you liked from the trilogy save for Phoenix and gumshoe don't appear in this game

If you want more of an Ace Attorney fix after this, you should play the Great Ace Attorney. Was genuinely impressed by how much I enjoyed it by the end - the cases all come together in a very satisfying way.

Got the Apollo collection yesterday and am going through it for the first time. Looking forward to it but am also tempering my expectations

Most of the hate comes from the game ruining 7 years of Wright's life over something other characters got away with and replacing him with a character that looks like the son of Dan from Street Fighter. Also the game is over 13 gigs on Switch. Fricking why? Is every line voiced now?

Even then they would only know about Miles Edgeworth and Maya. Larry Buttz isn't exactly front and centre of the series.
