The main narrative of base P4 and P5 are really tightly written, everything plays into one singular idea. In P5 you are a prisoner of society, Yaldabaoth disguised as Igor controls your every action as Phantom Thieves, literally sitting as your prison warden, but the social links you make erode at his power. At the end of the game you break out of prison and all your social links come together to save you and beat your captor (and all their captor). So what does Royal do? Well now you break out of Prison and immediately check yourself back in because the new warden is a nice guy. It is in fact the only truly redundant story arc in the whole game. In P4 the entire game revolves around a mystery within a mystery: you are chasing a killer through the shadow world but in reality you are coming to understand the greater mystery of the shadow world itself obfuscated by Izanami. So what does Golden do? It has an entire story arc that vividly explains the nature of shadow world by none other than an aspect of Izanami herself. And then it has the gall to ask you who could he the true Mastermind after this, well shit it's probably the goddess of Death we just got done having a chat with.
I'm baffled at the fact that these re-releases aren't called out by more anons, probably felt so contrarian to the base Persona games they are instantly one over by the downgraded versions. The only time they ever got it right was FES because they totally segregated all the new story stuff into its own campaign and left the original story in tact. But of course Atlus lost the code for FES and instead choses to release the completely gutted portable version which is an even bigger hack job than Golden and Royal. Classic Atlus.

You can discard the items, and for the free Personas you can summon and dismiss them because only the first summon is free. They'll still be in the fusion pool for you to get "legit" later.

P3 has the quickest start of them, which is good, but I don't know if it has the best pacing overall because it does drag a lot throughout. Pacing's always been an issue with the series though, even for the older Personas, I'd even go so far as to say Innocent Sin may have the worst pacing in the series for me. Almost every Persona has at least one segment that overstays its welcome though.

You should be able to see characters out and about like that more often. I liked when you could find Ann and Makoto out together shortly after Makoto joins but it only happens one time. It's still a nice detail, but it's the kind of thing that would have been good to see more often.

You can do more stuff at night which makes it easier overall. There's also another month to finish off Confidants, but between the three new Confidants and the third tier Persona evolutions I don't think that extra month makes a lot of difference.
Yes, but as long as you prioritise the fortune teller early (she makes it so you can boost relationships without spending time) you could easily max everyone out without a guide even in vanilla. In Royal you can do it with literally months to spare.
The reason you couldn't max out everyone is because of poor planning. Politician dude (Sun) is only avaiyom Sundays so always pick him for Sunday night if he's available otherwise you could miss him a lot in late game.

Persona 4 had the best cast.
People criticize it for being basically "Scooby Doo Murder Mystery" with harem of girls all wanting your wiener, but in the supposedly more serious and mature topic Persona 5 everyone is MC-sexual and even one villain is shoved as some homoerotic rival for the hero.
At least in P4 there are reasons why your team are friends, they hang out together constantly while everyone in P5 is just awkwardly forced into group scenarios. Hell there is little interaction between your friends in 5. in 4 you had Chie and Yukiko knowing Yosuke, Kanji and Naoto, Rise and Teddy etc.
There is STILL no scenario where one of your male members might end up in a relationship with a girl you didn't pursue from your team or even S.Link.
Also 4 has the best written romance in Ai, with multiple points of failure and overall being the most realistic in the series. There isn't much that can be done with the "pick the right dialogue option to frick" gameplay that plagues every single RPG with romance but at least it's something.
Overall i'd say Persona games do a really poor job of being RPGs with social commentary. 5 also has an issue of a mixed message and contradicting itself: >entire game is about being the Trickster, archetypical character going against norm >every character in your team has been wronged by unfair society in some way >entire set up for MC is being hated/disliked by people in his new school (which rarely plays into story and gameplay but eh) and having rumors about himself, same with Ann and so on >basicallly the message is that masses can be wrong and can spread a lie about you and sometimes you need to go against them

2.To make it manifest you need to send the calling card, which takes a game day
3. Once the card is sent, you are sent back to the Palace to get back to the end of the Palace to steal the treasure and fight the boss. Beating the boss makes the palace go away

It's a slow game in general, I think for even a bad player most of the story dungeons are going to take you 3-4 days max and then the time inbetween is spent on social/story stuff
It's fun to play, but it's too easy and it also can be overbearing with story at times, the beginning of the game being one of those times so it ends up with a slow start. When you're in the normal gameplay structure and you can go dungeon crawling or fusing or do Confidants it's pretty addictive and fun, I feel, despite how easy the combat is.

The main narrative of base P4 and P5 are really tightly written, everything plays into one singular idea. In P5 you are a prisoner of society, Yaldabaoth disguised as Igor controls your every action as Phantom Thieves, literally sitting as your prison warden, but the social links you make erode at his power. At the end of the game you break out of prison and all your social links come together to save you and beat your captor (and all their captor). So what does Royal do? Well now you break out of Prison and immediately check yourself back in because the new warden is a nice guy. It is in fact the only truly redundant story arc in the whole game. In P4 the entire game revolves around a mystery within a mystery: you are chasing a killer through the shadow world but in reality you are coming to understand the greater mystery of the shadow world itself obfuscated by Izanami. So what does Golden do? It has an entire story arc that vividly explains the nature of shadow world by none other than an aspect of Izanami herself. And then it has the gall to ask you who could he the true Mastermind after this, well shit it's probably the goddess of Death we just got done having a chat with.
I'm baffled at the fact that these re-releases aren't called out by more anons, probably felt so contrarian to the base Persona games they are instantly one over by the downgraded versions. The only time they ever got it right was FES because they totally segregated all the new story stuff into its own campaign and left the original story in tact. But of course Atlus lost the code for FES and instead choses to release the completely gutted portable version which is an even bigger hack job than Golden and Royal. Classic Atlus.

At least they let you enter the dungeon a few times before setting you free. In P4 you had to wait like 5+ hourse before you could explore the first dungeon. P3 had the best pacing though just 1 hour and you're free
P3 has the quickest start of them, which is good, but I don't know if it has the best pacing overall because it does drag a lot throughout. Pacing's always been an issue with the series though, even for the older Personas, I'd even go so far as to say Innocent Sin may have the worst pacing in the series for me. Almost every Persona has at least one segment that overstays its welcome though.
So does the game actually begin once you get the countdown for Kamoshida's palace? Up until this point I have spent more time with the controller down than it actually in my hands and toilet devil is the only time I've had to heal in combat.

You should be able to see characters out and about like that more often. I liked when you could find Ann and Makoto out together shortly after Makoto joins but it only happens one time. It's still a nice detail, but it's the kind of thing that would have been good to see more often.

You can do more stuff at night which makes it easier overall. There's also another month to finish off Confidants, but between the three new Confidants and the third tier Persona evolutions I don't think that extra month makes a lot of difference.
Yes, but as long as you prioritise the fortune teller early (she makes it so you can boost relationships without spending time) you could easily max everyone out without a guide even in vanilla. In Royal you can do it with literally months to spare.
The reason you couldn't max out everyone is because of poor planning. Politician dude (Sun) is only avaiyom Sundays so always pick him for Sunday night if he's available otherwise you could miss him a lot in late game.

Most of the writing is the party members repeating their one "problem" ad nauseum and how much stronger they are for overcoming it. It's nauseating.
Persona 4 had the best cast.
People criticize it for being basically "Scooby Doo Murder Mystery" with harem of girls all wanting your wiener, but in the supposedly more serious and mature topic Persona 5 everyone is MC-sexual and even one villain is shoved as some homoerotic rival for the hero.
At least in P4 there are reasons why your team are friends, they hang out together constantly while everyone in P5 is just awkwardly forced into group scenarios. Hell there is little interaction between your friends in 5. in 4 you had Chie and Yukiko knowing Yosuke, Kanji and Naoto, Rise and Teddy etc.
There is STILL no scenario where one of your male members might end up in a relationship with a girl you didn't pursue from your team or even S.Link.
Also 4 has the best written romance in Ai, with multiple points of failure and overall being the most realistic in the series. There isn't much that can be done with the "pick the right dialogue option to frick" gameplay that plagues every single RPG with romance but at least it's something.
Overall i'd say Persona games do a really poor job of being RPGs with social commentary. 5 also has an issue of a mixed message and contradicting itself:

It's a slow game in general, I think for even a bad player most of the story dungeons are going to take you 3-4 days max and then the time inbetween is spent on social/story stuff
It's fun to play, but it's too easy and it also can be overbearing with story at times, the beginning of the game being one of those times so it ends up with a slow start. When you're in the normal gameplay structure and you can go dungeon crawling or fusing or do Confidants it's pretty addictive and fun, I feel, despite how easy the combat is.

Yes, you can jump right in. At worst you'll miss like 2 or 3 references

Yes.
The only main Persona games that are actively connected are 1 and the 2 Duology.
The others happen in the same universe technically, but they're almost entirely disconnected. There's small references here or there, but nothing serious.
The only references to 4 are Naoto moving to Tokyo and Rise comeback posters.
is there any reason to get it on pc if i got the ps4 version on ps5? i still havent played the game. i dont think i really care about 60fps since it's a turn based game and buying the game again sounds kinda stupid
Did you only play the base version of the game before? Because Royal is a pretty big improvement.
