Are Chimeras supposed to be larger than lions?

Why would the animals it's composed of be up-scaled? It makes no sense.

Because they’re greater than the sum of their parts, duh.

Then why isn't this the case for the centaur?

What do you mean? Why would it be the same for the centaur?

Because a centaur is a fusion of a man and a horse. Not a giant and a giant-horse.

Life must be terribly confusing for a moron. Imagine getting hung up on why birds don’t collect honey, even though they fly (like bees, who do). Quite saddening really.

It is. The centaur is a pony/midget hybrid.

Because magical cross-breed, I ain't gotta explain shit. If they can somehow combine several different species without having it keel over dead almost immediately, why can't they also make it larger than normal while they're at it?

    A wizard did it.

    >why doesn't this unnatural fusion of multiple animals follow the usual rules of biology?

Because it's a fusion of a giant lion snake and goat of course

tldr; Lions are a field tested design, chimeras are not. Chimeras run on alternative fuel and not limited by caloric intake vs energy expenditures.
The wizard cobbled magical beast would naturally have a suboptimal body plan when compared to a beast that evolved over millennia to collect nutrients in the roundabout way of feeding on the flesh of others.
Chimeras would likely run off of an alternative non-competitive fuel source like 'magic' in addition to flesh, agree or disagree?
If so, then like the megafauna of the ancient earth, these beasts that feed/ exist due to magic would be huge and have huge guts, or at least could sustain really wack and nutrient to energy acquisition bodies like having three brains on one body. Extremely deficient would be an understatement!
For all it's deadly parts, it's only one being, and could only feed on one prey at a time. It would have to be hunting constantly with at least one head always at rest to feed enough to keep that many brains alive.
Meanwhile, lions sleep all the time with only one brain, for the infrequency of their hunts paying off, a lion needs to sleep a lot and have a large cohort to survive in the wild.

    That's why Lions are smaller.

It's a monster born from titans or giants, the size is the most consistent feature given by her parents. Also, depends on the setting but even greeks had different opinions about the chimera.
