imagine flying irl
super expensive
super intrusive
super restricted
if its a job, you're paid pennies because corporate knows you mother fuckers want to and will fly
depends, i don't play flight sims, but unless you have access to all the knobs, mixtures, flaps, etc which I doubt it's kind of pointless.
also memorizing comms and airspace procedures are the harder parts of flying
a literal child can fly a plane, it's the other stuff that's harder and I doubt flight sims have that
just get a first lesson at your local airport, 1hr will probably only be 100-200 bucks. if you focus enough you can probably land on your own after five lessons
>watch a vidoe of a guy going for a flight >he spends like 20 mins talking gibberish to the air traffic guys or whatever before hes even off the ground
bro flying was supposed to be about freedom
it's mostly helpful to use it to supplement your flight training. so after your training you go to the sim and rehash what you did during your lesson. its proven that people end up spending a lot less time/money doing that since they can then move onto the next lessons faster.
obviously with sim you don't get a real fear of death feeling or any G forces. but msfs2020 and DCS world are both great in terms of visuals and flight models.
No, not really. Feels nothing like flying. Can be good for cockpit familiarization though, or to practice some of the early maneuvers you have to learn like you would with some good old chair flying. But otherwise, it's really not going to help much.
I am a pilot and I fly all the time, and I have never gotten anything close to the real thing with any of the sims. Especially not the one in the OP which feels arcadey. I still play a ton of IL-2 though because it's fun. There's simply way too much lost in translation, the sensation of flying is not there no matter how nice your HOTAS is or wearing a VR headset.
here's an f16 pilot who says DCS feels about 70% of the real thing. i'd say that's not too bad and is about where i'd say it feels as well. he wasn't even in VR.

All he means is that the cockpit and plane look like real life. It's not "70%" of shit. Sitting at a desk playing a game feels 0% like flying an airplane. Imagination has nothing to do with it. You're coming across as seriously delusional now.

all i'm saying is i used to fly planes and to me sim feels realistic, same thing these guys are saying.
It will teach you the basics and to a degree yes you can actually learn with MSFS provided you also get information from outside sources.
Obviously the sim doesn't have a training mode with information like how to read METARS, it's more focused on teaching what is actually in the sim.
In an emergency situation you are infinitely more qualified to land the plane (not an airliner, don't LARP) than someone who has no idea what a stall is or what flaps are.
Wait for 2024, as it'll have a campaign mode to help with that. But yeah: A lot of pilots of them as a hobby to "keep sharp" or whatever. They aren't going to be 100% accurate, but they'll help with concepts.
yes it's how the 9/11 hijackers learned

>justifying not flying for such petty reasons
give it a shot anon
yeah bro let me pull 40k out of my ass and then how ever much it takes to rent
pilot duh, you don't play flight sim as a passenger unless you've fucked up
Do you mean as a passenger or as a pilot...
too soon, wait a few hours.

It will teach you the basics I guess. But it won't substitute for flying a plane irl.

if you have a good control setup it can feel really good especially with head tracking or VR.
Even still, feels nothing like flying. You don't have the weight of the plane to contend with, the G forces, the turbulence, the wind, etc.
i used to fly and i find it pretty close, but maybe it's because i've flown and my brain is just filling in what isn't there.
in VR it's scary close sometimes.

i guess you need more imagination then.

>Should this kind of software – with this level of detail – be available to the public?
I fucking hate the media.
My 70 year old dad is obsessed with this game. He plays nothing else. hth
He can probably fly an f-18 better than a dreamliner.

No but a good way to get you banned from Ganker.

if i remember right, its how Sky King got to fly that plane which he crashed into a mountain after doing a loop
What are your guys' thoughts on Ace Combat?
Mindless arcade fun. Basically airplane COD.
did they add missions like x yet?
