The 4090 is a renderfarm. It's not for games, it's for workshop software like Blender and AutoCAD, or just outputting video in a reasonable timeframe instead of leaving your shit running overnight.
Unfortunately, game devs see the spec of these cards and treat them as the "ceiling" for their unoptimized shit. They cry about "premature optimization" in development, and then release shit that looks like it belongs in the PS3 era but inexplicably needs next-gen hardware to run.

they should design their games to run on a 2070 because that's roughly how powerful the current-gen consoles are

Nvidia has a line of actual compute and workstation cards for this shit.
          >Oh but no it's actually for professionals
Nvidia thrives on keeping these markets separate, it's 90% of their business model because they can't get enterprise to accept consoomer warranties and they can't get consoomers to accept enterprise subscriptions and pricing. This is for consoomer paypiggies, the ceiling of what the paypiggy can be milked for.

          >Unfortunately, game devs see the spec of these cards and treat them as the "ceiling" for their unoptimized shit.

          It's a logistics issue.
It's easier for some moronic studio to make a game if they just order assets without specifying what they're for. Those assets aren't going to be optimized or tested, they'll just let the engine handle it.
