      No.

I was waiting 12 years for a chance to play ttrpgs after first discovering this board, only to finally land a group and discover that I don't enjoy playing them at all. It turns out 4-5 hours of improv and math fricking sucks. An entire evening gone.

      >muh improv
      Congratulations, you filtered yourself.

I think I got Coxsackievirus, which is a real thing and that is the actual name for it. I don't have the blisters at least, but that's normal for adults.

    I will soon.
In my Traveller game, I'm about to lead a mutiny against the captain (another player), because we aren't hardcore enough.

      Same tbh

I've had a campaign in the works for over a year and wanting to see it play out is a big factor in my sticking around. Maybe I'll turn it into a work of creative fiction if my dickhead friends can't be assed to play it.

I haven't felt it in years, every time I start imagining having fun with ttrpgs a memory quickly comes into my mind reminding me of huge egos, forced politics, dumb and contrarian decision making; and some kind of sexual perversion by the players. TTRPGS are only fun in a vacuum.

One day you'll find yourself a fun group that avoids all of those pitfalls.

I had one many many years ago, my irl childhood friends, but we grew apart (only in the hobbies and past times front, we still gather from time to time). Since then, I tried playing with randos of friends of friends but I had no luck, maybe it's because I'm too old and spent too much time playing with the same group of people, I'm just disconnected.

that's sadly the only pure experience of it most people ever get
it's only fun when semi-normies who don't take it too seriously or make it weird are playing
the second you start getting blue hairs or that guy who dresses like a vampire or fricking whatever, it's over
my advice to you is try to find a local dad group to play with, that's the next closest thing to playing with your childhood friends and it generally avoids the true weirdos

I was feeling it last month but now I'm not feeling it, just feeling a dull, empty space in my heart which needs to be filled with something but I don't know what that something should be and right now it's not roleplaying games.

They should be able to play with PPs without requiring PP Guides or PP Handbooks.

What if that is merely a case of yourself hyping up what the experience of playing would be like after 12 years of nogames and then feeling disappointed after it failed to meet your inflated expectations?

I don't think anyone could get inflated expectations of games from this board. You only ever find negative statements about systems here.

Nah, if you hung around in the past reading cool greentexts, it could easily happen. These days there's a ton of negativity but I can empathize with Anon being sold on daydreams of epic RPG moments. It's hard to become a good enough GM and find good enough players for those to happen organically.

NTA but that definitively could be a factor.
The best timing to play a TTRPG is when you just do it shortly after discovering about it, or when you heard about it but you never gave it much thought, knowing all the ins and outs of the magic BEFORE you experienced the roots is bound to inflate expectations.
Could also be a case of the group simply not being a perfect fit, that actually happens even to normalgays that dab in once but because of group compatibility, they write off the whole hobby, but hey, those people had a low investment time in the first place so no big loss on their part, people are getting filtered out of possible hobbies all the time, not just TTRPGs, the world is RNG of being in the right place at the right time with the right people.
