it's a raytracing which maintains the ray and makes it constant rather than eliminating it and using one reflection to do the calculation, it wastes more resouces but the reflections account for the different areas of the room.
using beam tracing is meaningless tho because games on the past already used ray tracing, is just that they did it with one ray and on a minimal number rather than doing a lot of constant reflections, what we call raytracing nowadays is literally beam tracing rather than pure raytracing.
it's very unlikely that a switch 2 will have it unless it costs 10000 dollars tho, most consumer grade beam tracing can only be done with 500 dollar cards and it's a thing which is on a bigger cheaper format than a switch with past manufacturing making for a cheaper product as a result.
nvm i'm retarded and i didn't read the article i was basing myself correctly.
see:
It's an actual term where instead of lines (rays) it's pretty much cones (beams), I imagine as a compromise of multiple rays + denoising, which is fucking hogwash since Nvidia is all about bruteforcing with path tracing + denoising, on top of absolutely nothing outside of toy projects using beam tracers

This Switch sucessor will probably only support direct lighting, where bean tracing could be better.
Note that Cyberpunk 2077, which nVidia is helping with, splits direct and indirect lighting, so the direct lighting potion could use beam tracing in the future, with the indirect continuing to use path tracing.
Oh, then I can see Nintendo fucking with it for some in house first party titles. Like something you could expect for the next Zelda or Mario but not for something like Prime 4 or the next FE.
Ps4 level graphics sounds believable, but ps5 sounds out of this world. Tbh plenty of cell phones have hardware equally/more powerful than the ps5 in regards to chips. Problem is that a game on the level with the ps5 on a phone overheats and devestates the battery.
>needing to calculate where something will be before you throw it
sounds like pussy behaviour, i simple radiate of my own volition with no heed to where my energy will end up. reality simply exists around me, but its cute to see plebs play in the "light" they think they can see and replicate
That's really relative. Chips become smaller and more performant at lower tdp, the switch can do ps3/360 performance that used 170~200w at just 15w, the switch oled do the same at 7w.
So, ps5 graphics at 720p isn't too crazy.
Visuals are relative, so people looking at a glance aren't counting polygons or have a resolution count laid out for them. They're only judging from what they can see.
No one expects the Switch 2 to push the same number of polys as PS5 or XBSX. They do expect that the system pushes ENOUGH polygons so that the port job to decimate the geometry doesn't require that much work to get off the ground. Basically, port jobs aren't gonna border on having to redevelop the game from scratch.

The hardware in the PS5/Series X is technically five years old and was midrange even before launch. Although even with that qualifier I still sincerely doubt the switch 2 (or whatever it's real name will be) will wind up being that strong. At best it'll come within striking distance of the Steam Deck. Nintendo traditionally makes consoles that are cheap to manufacture, hardware power isn't a priority for them (SNES and N64 were exceptions), making it that strong would require putting the thing outside of that $400 price range Nintendo always shoots to be at or under with their console launches. They need it to be profitable at $400 or less, no way it'll match the PS5/Series X
No shit I know dude, but, the switch could still only target 720p/1080p instead of the 4k of current gen and because the tech is new it could do some fancy effects here and there.
I would expect ps4 like performance to be honest, its just fanboys like to like to say shit they don't know shit about.
Only retards would fall for these kind of rumors though. Realistically speaking it will be base PS4 for handheld and PS4 Pro when docked. Nintendo isn't interested in power arms race like Microsoft and Snoy.
Nintendo isnt even interested in creative fidelity itself let alone power for power's sake.
praise for innovation died out for me long ago, when they decided rehashing the same 15 ideas until the end of time and trying to wrap it up as new and groundbreaking while being fundamentally stuck in the past because the average age of the people in power at nintendo is over 60.
same company that doesnt know how to release an old game for purchase or make a functioning online service. more power would literally only help them and they have the means to seize it but its outside of their priorities because its not necessary for wahoo
Do people actually believe DLSS is going to be a game changer for Nintendo? It doesn't help third party devs still refuse to port their games to the new console
>Steam Deck >Came out last year >Twice the size/weight of the Switch >$400 >Barely breaks even >Just about matches the PS4 >"The Switch 2 will have PS5-level graphics"
POWAH OF DA BING
Not even the most powerful Snapdragon in $1000+ flagship phones can match a PS5, but you think Nintendo's has a super secret SOC that's been folded 1000 times and can do it in a $300-$400 device?
Few devs actually used whole crap. There is a reason of why lot of ps2 games look or run like shit.
It doesn't matter because Nintendo fucked everything up by giving GC a shitty mini DVD drive that prevents 3rd party devs from porting games to their console. The same fate is probably waiting for Switch 2, they are going for some cheap cartridge that has like 32gb at a maximum
Legacy Software like games, every single PC game actually. Nintendo being able to use DLSS, their own custom graphics api (nvn2), ARM CPUs could mean PS5 level graphics at 720p easily. A little bit of active cooling and power delivery on the dock and you can climb to 35w which would mean 4k checkerboard is possible
Yeah, I'm ready for the 160x120 upscaling. I'm actually curious how they're supposed to cool that kind of performance in a handheld and have any kind of battery life. The current gen vidya boxes aren't huge bricks just so they can take up more space.
You joke, but I would sacrifice graphics, music, storytelling and voice acting, if it meant the hardware would have a good battery life. Nobody in this disgusting industry cares about making longlasting hardware.
>Vita loses its battery in idle mode within a month >Switch barely holds a charge anymore >Deck barely lasts through one day >iphones and androids have useless power saving modes that don't actually save power, and will lose power within a few days
Whoever introduced the concept of planned obsolescence deserves to step on every lego brick on earth.
Is it just me, or is this whole "switch 2 leaks" campaign an obvious snoy strategy to make tendies disappointed when the real thing is nowhere near as strong?
Nah it's just your modern day journalism doing its job. Hyping shit up so that they can capitalizing on how much you clicked the article. It doesn't have to make sense.
Nah, its actual retarded fanboys, they always invent shit when a console is near launch, they same has happened since the 360/ps3 era, they even make retarded mockups.
Just wait until proper announcement.
We've been seeing mobile hardware give us XBOX One visuals on iPads like 6 years ago, so NVIDIA giving Nintendo hardware on this level isn't impossible
I think people going "It'll be more powerful than the PS5" are bullshitters that are screencapping their own posts to make a collage later, while the majority of people are going "yeah it'll at least try to look that good with DLSS, but the hardware itself will probably be near PS4, maybe closer to Pro, levels."
more like bing tracing haha
oh you cheeky bastard
I don't get it.
SnOY chud forced meme that aged lile milk.
>PS5-level graphics
Snot confirmed?
>Beam tracing
Is it an actual term or just that journo making shit up? I've heard of path tracing and ray tracing before but this is new to me.

using ray tracing as a term for modern illumination*
nvm i'm retarded and i didn't read the article i was basing myself correctly.
see:
in general the thing after the beam tracing thing is right, it's just that my beam tracing explanation is very retarded.

It actually is, its just not very popular for graphics due to being very complex, but apparently it's more efficient?
Oh, then I can see Nintendo fucking with it for some in house first party titles. Like something you could expect for the next Zelda or Mario but not for something like Prime 4 or the next FE.
Ps4 level graphics sounds believable, but ps5 sounds out of this world. Tbh plenty of cell phones have hardware equally/more powerful than the ps5 in regards to chips. Problem is that a game on the level with the ps5 on a phone overheats and devestates the battery.
It's going to be expensive as fuck. No parents would be retarded enough to buy Switch 2 for their kid
Most of garden gnome tendo players are old. It's just nintendo refuses to make M rated games.
Fart Tracing confirmed for Switch 2?!?!?
Old. I use photon trajectory. Get on my level gay.

No.

PS5 is 3 years old
You're delusional if you think you can reach that level of graphical fidelity (and performance) with 15 watts in just 3 years.
Visuals are relative, so people looking at a glance aren't counting polygons or have a resolution count laid out for them. They're only judging from what they can see.

Everyone expects ps4 power range at a minimum though. Anything beyond that is a bonus.
Yes.
>PS5-level graphics
Nintendicksuckers are absolutely brainrotten. There is no hope for these subhumans.
Only retards would fall for these kind of rumors though. Realistically speaking it will be base PS4 for handheld and PS4 Pro when docked. Nintendo isn't interested in power arms race like Microsoft and Snoy.

Can't wait for New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe Remastered.
Do people actually believe DLSS is going to be a game changer for Nintendo? It doesn't help third party devs still refuse to port their games to the new console
Twice the price for the hardware for half the frames and half the resolution. Gotta love "progress".

POWAH OF DA BING
Nintendo can afford better contracts for parts than Valve ever could.
Deck doesn't even use ARM, it's a joke.
Not even the most powerful Snapdragon in $1000+ flagship phones can match a PS5, but you think Nintendo's has a super secret SOC that's been folded 1000 times and can do it in a $300-$400 device?
Match a PS5, but at a much lower resolution.
It's possible with DLSS.
Power is relative, most phones struggle with anything fancy due obvious lack of optimization.
Switch not dealing with android or ios OS bloat make It far stronger by default.
An Adreno GPU isn't made by NVIDIA
> 2017 critics "Switch only has six hours battery life? What a scam!"
>2022 critics "3 hours of battery life on the Steam Deck? This is the future!"
Next you gonna say Gamecube is more powerful than PS2
It was.
It doesn't matter because Nintendo fucked everything up by giving GC a shitty mini DVD drive that prevents 3rd party devs from porting games to their console. The same fate is probably waiting for Switch 2, they are going for some cheap cartridge that has like 32gb at a maximum
Boy, I sure do love 200GB of uncompressed audio.
>200gb of uncompressed audio
I wish devs actually did that and uncompressed cutscenes rather than having things sound and look like shit
>32gb at a maximum
Switch have 64gb cartridges.
These have never actually been made because they would raise the cost of games to $70 and that doesn't work unless "Zelda" is written on the box
>These have never actually been made
moron how do yo think they ship NBA 2K23? On two cards?
Don't you have to download 90% of that game?
Why would they sell a fucking game you need internet to play? Are you dense or retarded, son?
Few devs actually used whole crap. There is a reason of why lot of ps2 games look or run like shit.
It was you idiot. Same with N64. Doesn't mean they were the better/more successful console, but they were more powerful.
x86 is just that fucking shit
The only reason it hasn't been completely replaced yet is because of all the legacy software that requires it
Legacy Software like games, every single PC game actually. Nintendo being able to use DLSS, their own custom graphics api (nvn2), ARM CPUs could mean PS5 level graphics at 720p easily. What was it like before Switch came out?
Something about NX console?
Actiblizz spilled the beans during trial, but devkits are far stronger than actual hardware due debug tools and extra fluff.
take your meds chud
Nah it's just your modern day journalism doing its job. Hyping shit up so that they can capitalizing on how much you clicked the article. It doesn't have to make sense.

this is the chip that will be in the next switch. ignore all the fake leak trannies

source corroborating this rumor
>posts video as a confirmed absolute
>Video mentions unncertainty
You people need to watch the shit you mine blindly.
well obviously until nintendo announces something everything is a rumor
ray tracing on the go
No way
Right...
To think this is the 3rd gen of the HD consoles and even then those two can't do 1080p native minimum, these nu devs...
thinking about them beams right now
Have people forgotten the last like 5 times there was a hyped up Switch 2 only to be something completely unrelated?
I'm insider.
In short, they would use upscaling.
Basically, game would render at a very small size and upscaling would increase size.
