Wdym, you're a rat trapped in a sinking ship and you don't have enough fuel to atomize all the biomass constantly reforming itself into fleshy horrors all hunting you down
Also there's an alien artifact intentionally making you go insane and fricking with your senses the whole time

    >stuck in the far reaches of the vacuum of space, inside a confined vessel with only so many places to hide, with already limited supplies and oxygen on board along hundreds of ravenous predators looking for you, while being psionically accosted by the thing that turned people to begin with who is also probably telling them where you are
    it's a mystery

I love the setting and atmosphere of Dead Space so much.
Feels like we hardly ever get games with settings this cool anymore in sc-fi
Last game that I enjoyed as much was Prey 2017

Scy-fy really suffers from the same issues medieval fantasy do where most authors barely put any work into making it feel cohesive or unique. So many games go for the "tacticool, overdesigned" aesthetics.
I don't like scy-fy at all but DS games captured me in both setting and story. Not mentioning how fun the games were.

Think the key ehre was how much focus on "normal" stuff the first game had. As in, they put a lot of effort into making it clear Isaac was not a soldier, the Ishimura wasn't a military nor creepy place by itself but instead one that became like that. The difference between a horrible place and a palce that went horrible.
Dunno how to explain it. In most games the MC feels very contrasted from the horrors displayed, we are the hero or exception to the rule. For most of the first game Isaac never feels above any of the monsters or victims in terms of pwoer. You can sense his struggle to get the frick out of there as fast as possible.

Both Dead Space 1 and 2 did a fantastic job making these ships and space stations feel like real places people lived and worked in
The Ishimura feels like a giant oil rig in space and it feels like one you could really work on if it existed.
There's a gritty dark beauty to the world of Dead Space

Exactly, and as the other anon said, few games managed to achieve this, PREY being the other one that comes to mind. It was extremely cool that most dead bodies in the game were linked to a member of the space station and could be tracked through PCs. It grounds the threat a lot, because if you can believe people really used to live in here before shit happened, you then feel it can happen as easily to you too.

Man a fricking letdown Callisto Protocol was.

Callisto is Dead Space if literally everything went wrong.
World building is a big part of that too. nothing in Callisto in unique and it's setting feels so hollow and lifeless despite being on the day of the outbreak.
How do you frick that up?

              >How do you frick that up?
              Because for some fricking reason
              >"that is so cool, we'll do that too without studying or checking what makes it good, just copy everything on a surface level"
is the norm, which makes me wonder why so many investors, shareholders and producers, specially in the A and AA industry think they can do the same an AAA game does but worse and somehow succeed. Why would I play your product over the existing one?

They are the actual definition of a zombie in literal sense, unlike the ones depicted in l4d and 28 days later that aren't a zombie at all.

Only the things in dead space 3 are alien zombie.

I don't mind when people are wrong in a review but there's something about this homosexual's attitude that really enrages me.
