Assassin's Creed Syndicate

This is by far the the worst, most tedious and grindy ass creed game ever devised
>can't jab enemies in the throat with all your sharp pointy things to kill them
>no you have to slug it out with them
>parkour is non-existent in this game
>you can't jump gaps
>you can't launch yourself in a random direction
>no, you have to politely step down so you can run to your next location where you do a spider-man wall craw
Abysmal. Even shitty Unity managed to get this right with Arno defying the laws of gravity left and right. Frick, man, why do Ubishit devs hate parkour so much?

      >downgraded parkour with worse animations and moronic weight along with overall worse game design
      >extreme parkour magnetization

      >Even less emphasis on social stealth with an increased focus on generic cover to cover stealth

Examples of bad level design you noticed? It seemed to me like Paris was better built than other AC cities for parkour.

          Anonymous

Paris is great, it is more so the individual levels and missions themselves where you are going through a structure or a set perimeter that is a clearly defined level in the open world.

            Anonymous

I didn't think the level design was that bad in itself, its just that there were so many bugs and the AI was so bizzare that it wasn't fun to play those missions at all. Probably the most frustrating Assassin's Creed because of that.

          >Rescuing the Silver Smith dude
          >Assassinating the guy in the sewer
          >The party mission where you can poison the guy's drink
These are all terrible because the game constantly tells you can approach how you want, whilst only have 1 actual viable stealth route. The party mission for example, you can pay like 4k for a dude to leave open a window with a ladder, this puts you directly behind the target, but there are like 6 guards in the room, all standing next to the dude and 2 of them facing the door you paid 4k to get to. Making that route a complete waste of time.

Syndicate was very good and the grappling hook was a welcome addition. If they had more time to combine the hook with more parkour tech/challenges it would have been amazing. The combat was also most arkhamish, fluid and fun. The twins had nice dynamics, and even with the lacking main plot London was neat to run around in.

    >grindy
Frick off. Origins and the rest of the crap after it exist. I'm actually playing Valhalla right now because I'm a degenerate masochist and while it is not straight up trash like Odyssey the grind is felt immediately. None of the pre-Origins ACs come close.

No it was not. Syndicate combat is sluggish and stale.

      >the grind is felt immediately
Your starting Bearded Axes are the best in the game and as soon as you get two spears you immediately become overpowered, doesn't matter which two. The best Hunter Bow (The only bow type that's worth it) is not only available as soon as you reach England but if you know how to solve the puzzle (Which you won't unless you look at a guide because it's not a puzzle you can really "solve) you can get it then as well.
You literally only need to throw iron, leather, and titanium at them and if you want you can at any time pay 50 silver to gain all your invested mats back. You gain EXP at a hilarious rate and will gain a level up virtually every single story quest. If you assassinate enemies you get 1.5x the EXP meaning 50 XP high tier guys become 75 XP. You will get the best armor in the game (Thegn, Brigand, and the Assassin damage one from River Raids) through general gameplay outside of the RR one.

The grind only starts when you want everything at gold tier (Because the ingots can only be reasonably gained at Glowecestrescire and only 4-6 at a time (Depends how many groups spawn) and take about 10 minutes away from the area to respawn or if you want to get all the River Raid gear. Leveling your items and armor takes barely anything, you should only be wanting for the titanium which you get from groups of wandering guards or 3-5 per ore pickup in towns/houses.

Parkour is worse than unity cause the grapple thing sucks the fun right out.
World design is worse than unity, everything is ashy, miserable, and wienerney
Main characters less charming than unity, though GODDAMN Evie has a nice walk.
Storyline is on par with unity for being a forgettable mess.
Modern storyline is on par with unity and is followed up in the worst AC media in existence, Assassin's Creed Uprising.
It's the only AC game I haven't 100%'d, and I just put 200 hours into Valhalla. It's just not a good time.

nta but I would argue that being able to instantly see your target through walls is automation since you are robbed of navigating through the various halls and rooms of the building to look for your target and also do not have to worry about guards at all.

Jumping between main development studios and having 10+ studios working on a single title definitely is a weakness in the series.
Most of the news about AC: Infinity is rough but the one good thing they've mentioned about this shift is giving each studio more time to develop, and allowing studios to branch off into their own styles.
Montreal wants smaller games with better stories, Quebec gets the bloated RPG open worlds. Maybe after Skull and Bones flops Singapore will jump back in for another ship game.

I wonder what Hexe will be like since it's supposedly neither more traditional like Mirage nor RPG like Red.

Assuming it's still an AC game and not another genre shift, that only leaves AC3/Black Flag style bush and tree stealth and potentially gameplay focus on weird shit with alchemy and occultism.
It's basically guaranteed you're playing a witch of some sort so I wonder where they'll go with that. Hopefully something more thought out than "everything is hallucinogens haha" like they did with Valhalla.

I simply cannot understand what the fricking holdup has been on this game.
Literally all they needed to do was take black flag, strip out the assassin shit, give your more customization options with the ship and crew, and make the map bigger and more dynamic.

They though it would originally be multiplayer only.
They then were told that's moronic, people want a singleplayer campaign.
Problem is they missed the message that they wanted a singleplayer campaign you can explore around on foot like BF or Rogue and as far as we know it's primarily just ship battles and only that. It's just a ship game, no on land piracy.

    >Best ACs
1 through Revelations, best stories, best characters, best OST, best social stealth, best parkour, deepest parkour mechanics with most control, responsiveness and mechanics, most atmospherically rich games
    >Good to great ACs
3, Black Flag, Rogue, Origins, mostly great stories and some great characters, but these games also fumble these areas more than previous titles, Parkour is slightly downgraded compared to previous titles (in Origins case to a much greater degree) but still has responsiveness, great animation work and weight (not Origins), tries new and interesting settings that are a lot more different than previous games, expands the world but fumbles the modern day element beyond redemption, combat is either improved or downgraded depending on who you ask. Good OSTs
    >Mid to Decent ACs
Unity, Syndicate. Parkour starts getting very automated and the sense of weight is really janky. Control not as responsive and predicatable. Fighting the system more than playing until you figure it out. Loses some mechanics for the worse, combat downgraded, stories are worse, characters are worse. Sometimes it can look very pretty. Settings are a return to more traditional city based ACs. OSTs not as good. Stealth becomes a lot more generic
    >Terrible ACs
Odyssey, Valhalla. Parkour is irredeemably bad. In Origins there was a degree of acceptable due to them trying new things, so you would expect that they improve on the parkour in future entries, but instead they DOWNGRADED it even further from Origins with Valhalla having the worse in the series. Stories and characters arguably better than Unity and Syndicate, but RPG shit and massive focus on fantasy ruins the main appeal of AC. AC has now been definitively split in two separate fanbases. You could argue that Odyssey is actually decent, but it is also barely even an AC game and feels more like you're a super hero in fantasy Greece. Stealth arguably at its worst as its furthest removed from appeal of traditional AC.

Just started playing it and yeah, it just feels extremely meh. Boring protagonists and their ugly outfits aside, combat feels terrible and like it doesn't have any weight at all, even IV's-one-hit-counter-kill-everything felt better. City feels like it's either designed with carriages or grappling hook in mind, but carriages feel out of place because this is AC, and the grappling hook is extremely slow for crossing huge gaps, even when using it with a 45° slope between ledges as a zip line.
    >you can't jump gaps
    >you can't launch yourself in a random direction
fricking this so much, why take away the option to jump in any direction whenever you want to? Feels like they made it so unlike Unity, it's much easier to parkour by just holding RT a la Black Flag and III, but in doing so took away so much freedom. The amount of times I've been left just standing on a ledge frozen because the character refuses to make any jump where there's not a perfectly distanced ledge at the other side is already too many.

It's a shame because I think that even if the graphics are a downgrade, the map itself is beautiful and very detailed and I always stop for a minute to admire the detail inside of factories, and this game will never be anyone's favorite AC, just an ambitious sloppy crunch that finally made Ubisoft realize that they really can't keep up with a yearly entry
