you don't get to nerd out about how cool you are for beating a game unless it's something that 'muh casuals' didn't play.

    3>1>2 obviously

and by Konami NES/Famicom standards, the difficulty is only above-average. Their SHMUPs are much more difficult. And I probably died more times in Rollergames than in CV3. I would say even Motocross Champion, the last 2 courses specifically, is more challenging.

      3 > 1 > 2

2 has zero difficulty unless you decide to go for the best ending.

How would IV, Rondo and Bloodlines rank in among those?

        From hardest to easiest

        X68000 game
        3
        X (SNES)
        1
        Bloodlines
        Rondo
        4
        2

On Game Boy I've only beaten 2, probably the only one truly worth playing, which is somewhere in the middle in terms of difficulty

I have beaten Chronicles on its hardest difficulty but have yet to beat Drac in 3. I agree with the list otherwise. Although 4 on Hsrd is arguably more challenging than Rondo

This looks about right, maybe Bloodlines above 1.
Castlevania the Adventure is pretty hard (for all the wrong reasons) but it's really short and at some point you'll be able to adjust to its shit factor, so still on 1/Bloodlines level.
Belmont's Revenge is one of the easiest games except for Dracula, even easier than 4 I'd say.

limited continues in bloodlines makes it harder than 1.

Vampire Killer (the MSX2 Dracula, not the JP version of Castlevania: Bloodlines) is probably harder than any of those, due to the fact you only three lives and no continues. Even though it's becomes doable once you memorize every level layout and know where the good items are located (since there's no time limit), there's still a bit of instant death bullshit in later levels.

Dracula X is harder than 3 and maybe a draw with X68000 if not a bit harder. Haunted Castle tops all by far.

I've only played 1-4 but I second the 3>1>4>2 vote
Also I kinda want to split 3 between NA and Japanese versions (the latter is supposedly easier) but I've only played the NA one so nevermind about that

I'd say JP3 is still harder than 1, but easier than DX and Bloodlines.

I think Bloodlines is super easy, especially when playing as Eric. It's really easy to do a no death run in that one.

Even on Expert? I couldn't nodeath Expert, I had to 1cc it, even on Eric. The level 6 gauntlet is so brutal.

one of the biggest problems of Simon's Quest is that beyond the cryptic progression, the game is piss easy in terms of combat

Nothing is any more cryptic than dozens of other nes games. Same goes for poor translations. All nes and snes games had shit translations.

I don't understand the zoomie obsession with being "enraged" by CV2's "bullshit". When I was a kid everyone know all the tricks like crouching at the cliffside etc and which gems to use where. It was a matter of course. It wasn't some well-guarded secret. We didn't have to pay money to tiplines. You modern kid fags overemphasize how difficult it was to proceed through the game without outside info. It's just a really stale, boring opinion.

They want to pick it up and beat it in an hour like all of their modern autosave and checkpoint bullshit games. Nothing a zoomer hates worse than a continue screen.

Simon's Quest is actually pretty easy, I've somehow beaten it legit
It's not nearly as bad as people make it out as long as you get one particular clue early on and actually read the manual
The clue you need says to kneel with blue crystal equipped in front of a lake

It's not possible to have problems with Simon's Quest anymore because by now anyone who might be even slightly interested in playing would have seen the AVGN video or learned about it through osmosis in gaming community. Kinda like going in watching Hitchcock's Psycho without knowing the twists: impossible.

You would think that everyone would know to kneel with the damn crystal by now but instead they only learned to parrot the same crying and bitching through osmosis from the community.

Was the "shout in front of a church" clue in Simon's Quest intended for the Japanese version? I know the early models of the Famicom had a built-in microphone on the second joypad.

If you are a gay zoomer that has no shame in using a gay rom hack. Or you could just play the game because internet fags are drama queens and the game isn't even difficult to complete.

Unironically just watch AVGN’s video on Simon’s Quest, that’ll show you all the criptic shit you need to know to beat the game without a guide
