If you don't have this screen, you're golden. If you do, then you have a brick on your hands, and, unless if you backed up your NAND and have soldering skills, there is absolutely nothing you can do about it, since the NAND is unique and is directly tied to the individual console.
Mine doesn't show this screen.
Actual Fisherprice hardware
I'm not taking it out of the box.
Yes you are. Or are you scared that you will never play Xenoblade Chronicles X again?
I'm waiting for the Switch port
You do realize that the Switch 2 (Super Switch? Swiitch?) will release either later this year, or early next year, right?
And you also realize that Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the last major AAA first-party title for the Switch?
>You do realize that the Switch 2 (Super Switch? Swiitch?) will release either later this year, or early next year, right?
L M A O
The rumors aren't wild like the Switch was. But there is credible evidence that at least this year (Pokemon DLC via backwards compatiblity), Nintendo will announce news on its successor.
Remember, the Switch is an ancient handheld. And unlike the Game Boy, is still trying to run modern games on the system, even though every handheld gaming PC out there since the GPD Win 3 routinely outperforms the Switch.
L M A O
Reminder that nintendo thinks the switch is a next gen console and intends for it to compete with ps5/Xbox series x.
It'll be 3 years minimum before nintendo announces another console. And that's not even accounting for delays
> It'll be 3 years minimum before nintendo announces another console
The dev kits for the successor have already been sent out.
>Source, My ass.
Switch is 6 years. Nintendo will stay with Handheld hybrids and will probably be at PS4 Pro level of graphics
>Nintendo will stay with Handheld hybrids
I sure hope so. Going back to just a regular home console would be a huge downgrade.
It can hardly run Sonic Frontiers, which can run on any potato PC.
That should raise alarms.
>3 years
You fucking wish
meds
now
if it was coming out this year it would have already been leaked or shown off. If they do show off a new console its going to be late next year at best.
Switch had a good run.
Why the fuck do you have your titles backwards?
>backward
Wait, you put the Nintendo logo up, with the image upside down?
I tilted the image so the text was readable and noticed it's ordered Z-A as you go down. Why?
It goes from Left to right. It's a Shelve.
I could smell the soi from here
How is my stuff soi?
>Funko Pops
>Amiibos
>Pink wall
>Actively displaying your game collection
Wait, you dont show you like your hobbies? You hide your games?
Also, I paid for 2 Junko because they were from horror movies I like.
You forgot:
>dusty as fuck
>sealed amiibo
>Pokeshit double packs
I have a shit ton of unboxed amiibo, but if I'm not gonna use the DLC on them, why open them?
That's a really nice display cabinet.
My dad got it for free because the auction house place was closing. So we just had to transport it
>How is my stuff soi?
>non response meme reply
concession accepted
>funkopops
I have 2 Funko I paid for, the rest are stuff my parents bought me at auctions. I do have a lot of Amiibos, but they are well made I think.
>stuff my parents bought
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Your parents dont take an interest in your hobbies as an adult? My parents love to do Auction stuff so when they see geek stuff cheap they buy it
>Your parents dont take an interest in your hobbies as an adult?
They never did
fucking sad goddamn
why do you have two callie/marie amiibo
Literally saw that I had two today. Dont know how that happened. Probably got in Gamestop, saw they had The marie and assumed I didnt have it
>funko pops
have a nice day, and they are not even some of the slightly tasteful early ones
Chucky and Sam are cool brah. They were cute. I agree that most Funkos suck.
Looks fine to me cornball
Do you really think Nintendo is actually forward thinking? They fuck up as often as they succeed. Their track record isn’t one of continuous progress nor even consistent performance. They have nothing planned at all, and they don’t need to make a move to survive yet, so they won’t.
sometimes I wonder if Nintendo's next console is gonna be another gamecube or wii u and just be a total flop after the switch having been such a huge success. their success and failures seem to be perfectly staggered almost, historically.
The switch successor was already in work before the Switch released.
>You do realize that the Switch 2 (Super Switch? Swiitch?) will release either later this year, or early next year, right?
lol lmao rofl xD, kek even
2 more weeks!
shut the fuck up oh my god, did you not learn your lesson with last year's """credible""" Switch Pro leak
I'm playing x on the pc right nowand it's better than on wiiu.
i just miss having my tablet in my face, but that's not that big a problem.
can play it 4k 120fps on the wiiu emulator
There's like two games on Wii U worth playing and both need to be decensored with fanpatches anyway, may as well emulate.
Xenoblade decensor isn't worth it since it doesn't ass the boob slider
you can use cheat engine to make the boobs bigger
I know but it's not the same
what was censored in Nintendoland?
He said 'worth playing', not 'not even worth getting off the wrap'.
Nintendoland is great, fuck you.
Sure. Want to buy mine? It's still in the wrap.
I already have a copy, you should play yours.
I have, no point using discs when it's hacked.
>buys the game
>still emulates it
Are emufags retarded?
Buy? Nintendoland had to be given away just like Sony does with their movies.
>pack in games are
>LE BAD
No, they're pack in games because they're bad.
No, retard.
considering this guy thinks Nintendoland isn't a good game, yes.
ill defend captain falcon's twister race anyday
They censored MH3U?
Every worth playing is on switch now who cares
>decide to finally hack my Wii U
>hack is successful
>ok time to start downloading shit
>app store isn't working
>ok whatever let's load a game on here
>game won't load either
>ok wtf
>turns out my 32GB SD card is actually 8GB and I got scammed
If I copy and paste the SD card contents to a new card, will it still work, or do I need to start over?
Why are you using such a tiny card anyway?
I was just lazy and decided to use an old card instead of buying a new one.
When I bought it 32gb was a popular and affordable size. I also have an external HDD for my Wii U so I was hoping I could just offload shit as needed.
I know I can get a much bigger one for 20 dollars, I'm just asking if I have to redo the hack now.
Redo it
This post is poverty
>he bought chinesium instead of an actual brand
You get what you deserve
I believe so, because I basically had the same thing happen but I think with 32 and 64 so happy pirating.
Yes it will still work. I did the hack with a 4GB SD card and then upgraded to a 32GB one. I just copied everything from the original to the new one.
yes you can just copy the contents to any other SD card as long as it's fat32 and it will work. you'll probably want a bigger one anyway if you want to actually install games - unless you use nusspli but that's slow as fuck
sd cards are one of the things you don’t want to skimp on
>If I copy and paste the SD card contents to a new card, will it still work, or do I need to start over?
you need to start over. the way those work is by overwriting data at the start of the card. some of what's on there may be salvageable, but you can't tell what is or isn't until you run into problems trying to use it.
in the future, buy storage direct from manufacturers, e.g. https://www.westerndigital.com/products/memory-cards/sandisk-high-endurance-uhs-i-microsd#SDSQQNR-032G-GN6IA
>turns out my 32GB SD card is actually 8GB and I got scammed
your fault for buying chink shit
I was able to do this when I bought new SD cards for my hacked my 3ds and Vita, so I wouldn't be surprised if it works.
I know it's 12 hours late, but you literally cannot buy SD card on eBay at all. Most things you can buy there just fine, but they refuse to weed out the Chinese fake SD card sellers. Feedback isn't reliable because they've already sold a hundred of them to retards that left positive feedback because they put a couple photos on their 128 GB card and it worked.
eBay will always take the buyer side so you'll get your money back, but still, just a waste of time to even try it.
nowhere is safe from fake sd cards, fuckers will buy real ones and return fakes so they can profit, just gotta buy from stores that will have your back
heh, just like the printers
time to run for switch like a good boi
nintendo at least used to fix those for free even after warranty. might as well call them and ask if they still do that.
but ultimately it's your own fault, since it's very old problem with the launch 32gb wiius. should've gotten it fixed years ago if you cared
>Because everyon with a launch Wii U had this problem within the warranty period, or even had it at all yet, and because everyone knew that the low-quality NAND chips back then.
No it's not every launch 32 gb wiius, it's only the ones with cheap chinese Hynix NANDs having this issue
If you have a wiiu with a Toshiba or Samsung NAND, you'll be fine.
https://wiiubrew.org/wiki/Hardware/EMMC_NAND
List of documented issues : https://hackmd.io/d12Fq9g-QlCjN2HJp7Yvew?view
(the Samsung one was actually caused by something else, it's unrelated).
If you wanna check your NAND model without opening your console, use the homebrew mdinfo:
https://github.com/GaryOderNichts/mdinfo
Are there any browser exploits that I can use to hack the system, like what was used for the Vita later on?
hacking is terribly easy https://wiiu.hacks.guide/#/
Basic bros rise up
did they switch to the cheap chinese ones to cut corner when they saw the sale figures?
Guess I'll be opening mine up later to check on it.
Thanks for these links. Do you know if there is a possible way to do this without mocha? It seems kind of complicated and I don't want to screw up current CFW.
If I got a Nintendo Land/3D World physical 32 GB Bundle, should that one be alright? I still use it regardless, but it's not something I've hacked or felt the need to hack, so I'm curious.
I got that one too, I got mario party and a mario hat as a gift
I haven't used it again since cemu is stable
no way to know without checking the chip
mine is a day one zombiU and has a toshiba chip for reference, still work fine to this day
if you're using tiramisu, you don't need anything else.
all you need to do is go (on your SD) to wiiu > apps > make a mdinfo folder > paste mdinfo.rpx inside > open the homebrew channel and start the app.
maybe, maybe not.
if it's still work despite you not having used it for years, maybe you're lucky and it didn't affect any important files or your chip isn't affected by the issue at all.
in fact, maybe not all Hynix chips are affected, it might just be one faulty batch. we don't have a large enough sample to know for sure.
there might be more fear mongering than we think.
we don't know for sure if it's just a case of bit rot, some reports and investigations imply it might just be the chips dying, for another yet undetermined reason.
Thanks for this information. Glad I don't have to install a new CFW just to check.
>mdinfo.rpx
where do I get this?
I have the 32 GB one from the Wind Waker bundle. Am I fucked?
only way to find out is open it or mod it.
>Note: You need the MochaPayload for this to work
Fuck's sake, why did spergs switch exploits, now I have to set it up again.
isn't Mocha the old one?
Haxchi is. Teramisu came after Mocha.
Just checked my wii u and it has Hynix NAND. Am I fucked?
F
How did you even get it to work? Does Mocha even work on 5.5.6? I hit it in the homebrew launcher and it does nothing
Use Tiramisu instead. Haxchi is outdated.
https://tiramisu.foryour.cafe/
Hynix, rip
Its the Zelda Deluxe Wii U too. RIP
Just checked my NAND with mdinfo using Homebrew. My Zelda Wii U doesn't use Hynix and has been working perfectly fine the past few days after not booting it up for over three years. Am I safe?
if I'm reading the thread and sites linked here right yes
also if it works after 3 years not powered that should(?) be a good sign
yes you are
in doubt, power it once every 6 months, or a year at the very worst
>mdinfo
What is that?
>3D World/Nintendoland 32GB Bundle
>Toshiba
Nice. Thank you all for bringing up awareness, especially the non-gay OP.
Actually, vWii's image is pretty ass, but the issues should only be noticed by people familiar with the games and videophiles.
https://gbatemp.net/threads/fixing-vwii-mode.573265/
Braindead, nowadays there are these guide sites that are needlessly wordy so even retarded redditors can manage.
https://wiiu.hacks.guide/
And remember kids, if only have one backup, you have no backup at all. Make multiple copies of your NAND dumps. I've seen way too many reports of people's Wii U's NANDs corrupting, there must be some issue on the software side.
Also, if you can't detect any wi-fi after leaving your Wii U unplugged for a very long time, try removing your CMOS battery and putting it back.
What are you supposed to do if it fails anyway? Is the actual memory dying or can you just reflash it the hard way?
For anyone having trouble getting mdinfo to run, I got it running easily using EnvironmentLoader and Aroma (you can install it alongside Tiramisu, just hold X when booting up the console to change the CFW you boot with. No need to install Mocha.
Easy piracy with free online (for now)
"Native" Wii and GameCube support
Emulators for older systems including N64 and PS1
I have two hard drives hooked up to mine, one for Wii U games specifically and another for Wii/GC/everything else for the vWii.
Nintendo hasn't been repairing Wii U's for years.
Maybe it's time everyone starts complaining about it and Nintendo caves in with announcing that they will be offering repairs.
Who's gonna complain? The 20 people who bought one?
At least 12 million Wii Us were sold. That equates to 12 million people. The Wii U has more of a core gaming audience than the Wii had.
Sony caved in to not close the PSN store for the Vita, even though the Vita sold a similar amount of units, because we started complaining to Sony about closing the store to begin with.
You forgot that it's always okay when Nintendo does it and that nintendo fans will always defend whatever nintendo does.
I turned mine on last year at it worked. Would this issue be mitigated
Now do it again. It most likely shat the bed since then.
No, I won't. Controller will have lost charge agaon
imagine buying cucksoles lmao
who cares, wii u emulation is smooth af
I am literally playing Axiom Verge on my Wii U right now
Who the fuck actually owns a Wee-ooo anyway? What the fuck.
Easily hackable and then you have 1 system that plays every single Gamecube, Wii, and Wii U game for free.
Hasn’t been plugged in in at least 5 years, started up just fine.
Now do the following, in this order. Go into Mii Maker. Go into the Amiibo Channel. Go play a Virtual Console game. And then go play a disk game.
If you still don't see that screen, you are safe for now, and should back up your NAND.
Lol no, it’s already back in a box in the closet where it belongs
Mine's still alive and I got mine around launch. Did everything said as well. I also hacked it if that has anything to do with it.
Post your dog, anon
Dog’s about to poop on the switch.
The dog already pooped. You just mistook it for a wiiU. Pretty common mistake to be fair.
I discovered mine died back when King of Cards released. It said the disc drive had died and so the entire system wouldn't work. Felt bad.
My Wii U is plugged in. I played it yesterday. I have two games in the mail coming for it.
Based retro gamer
Been replaying BotW over the past week or so on mine. It works just fine.
>Wii U is considered retro
I want off this ride.
It isn't. It was just one gen ago. People are too loose with terminology.
Xbox 360 and Ps3 are considered retro. But WiiU somehow isn't?
Those systems are from 2005 and 2006, respectively. The WiiU is from 2013 and from a different hardware generation.
The Wii U was last gen alongside the PS4 and Xbox One. Think before you post.
>Xbox 360 and Ps3 are considered retro.
They are not you retard
IDK man, xbox 360 is older now, than snes was when xbox 360 was released.
Seems retro to me.
PS3/360 will never be retro
Cope
PS3/X360 games are literally the exact same shit as PS5/XSeries except with slightly better graphics. When gaming actually decides to evolve again than I will consider X360 and PS3 retro
let me guess you're still on 1080
get a 4k oled
same, i boot it up every once in a while to play Warioland 4 n shit.
This was Nintendo's worst home console of all time, so there's no need.
Works on my machine
What game is that?
it's from the same series as rhythm heaven I'm pretty sure
Game and Wario. You unlock rhythm heaven OST with in-game currency
charge now
Every worthwhile game on this system has been ported to Switch except for Xenoblade X and you can just emulate that. Who gives a fuck if this shit gets bricked from sitting in a closet for years?
Do emulators support the Wii U gamepad for actual asymetric gameplay?
turned mine on yesterday, menu showed up as normal.
I got my wiiu like one year after it came out so maybe it was still fine because it was newer.
I'm going to install a custom firmware soon and do a NAND backup
I have the Wind Waker special edition Wii U. Am I fucked, bros?
Maybe. Maybe not.
When I plugged in my Wind Waker Wii U for the first time in 9 years, I got the dreaded 160-103 code, which usually means you're fucked. But it was only when I launched Wind Waker, and after I deleted it and redownloaded, it worked fine.
I've been playing the fuck out of virtual console and Twilight Princess HD the last couple months. No issues so far.
My gamepad won't charge even after getting a new battery and charger. I already have a brick.
Mine works
Whew, thank god I was never dumb enough to buy a console. Imagine not having any control over your own hardware.
Guess its worth soft modding mine before it dies then..
>hacked my wiiu for early botw
>realize that all its games are trash except for smash bros and botw
What a shitty console
Plenty of good games
80% of those are trash
Cool, tell me which one are trash
Not him, but Kirby and the rainbow curse.
Played for 15min then shelved cuz it was boring.
Shovelware =/= Didnt like it.
Shovelware has a specific term, which is fast written games to make a quick buck disregarding the quality.
Kirby was great.
It has an uncensored nip version of the SMT/Fire Emblem game, and Xenoblade X. That's all it has.
>pokken tournament
Man, I even got the retarded controller that it came with. What a pile of shit.
>plenty of games
You mean that's all the games the hardware has. 90% of those are shovelware
If you think a game like NES Remix or Kirby and the Rainbow Curse is shovelware, you dont know what Shovelware is
hope you take some solace on nintendo autists buying whatever old shovelware there is well over retail price
What is shovelware on the picture I posted?
A lot of fun stuff.
>Patapon
>Plenty of good games that are now obsolete as they have received enhanced Switch ports
FTFY
this, pay full price for the same game you already own but with one extra level and paid online
>pay
lmao
Your opinions mean nothing, rom monkey.
Rom monkey owns his games. Do you?
Only Coldboot Haxchi I think.
Okay, enjoy your dumbed down version then idiot.
>dumbed down
Holy fucking gay.
This worthless piece of greasy, queer camel shit did not just try to flex on me with its modded tranime dog shit for faggy yellow moon monkeys from the land of rice and low t.
Do you also watch tranime with the subtitles on, faggadillo?
I would, but I'm too busy enjoying my games without them crashing every 2-3 hours.
>NES Remix
I wish I waited, since I grabbed the first one when it was on sale a few months before the sequel + physical release was announced.
think I did the same
It's a shame they haven't taken the idea further on Switch. Hell, it'd be a thing they could stick on their overpriced "Expansion Pak" subscription service and having it make use of the roms/emulators provided there to do challenges/fuckery with.
And yet, you still begged for Wii U ports on the Switch.
lol I skipped the switch. WiiU was the last straw for me.
Emulation is so good now that there's no point in getting one for botw 2 anyway
smash bros and botw are garbage what are you smoking dumbass
>Bought a Wii u for Zelda and Metroid
>No Metroid ever came
>Zelda was a Switch game as well as Wii U so the console was literally pointless
For fucks sake, that was the last time I ever bought a console before there was games worth buying
That's why I haven't bought a switch yet. fingers crossed that there will be games for it soon.
>Weeb has shit taste
Every tim.
that all its games are trash
Fixed. If you really think breath of shit and super baby brothers are good you have horrible taste.
Mines got something else more retarded I think the code is like 160-1400 or some shit, literally no one’s knows how to fix it other than just putting a whole different drive or some shit
Really? none of you bros got the disc drive laser problem?
Mines plugged in with a super dusty 2.5 hdd lying next to it. Power is what this flash memory needs, right?
Guess I set up Cemu just in time, get fucked Nintendo.
i'd fucking kill myself if one of my game consoles booted up to something like this, holy shit
All of your consoles has a lifespan. I tried playing my OG Xbox earlier this year and the thing barely powered on for a second and then died, no more power.
Emulation really is the only true preserver.
Sure (typed from 20y old gaming PC)
Not NES to SNES era. It's all logic boards, they are eternal. Batteries for saves are all fucked, of course.
Eternal? Plenty of NES and SNES games are rotten due to bad humidity or corrosion or damaged pins.
>Plenty of NES and SNES games are rotten due to reasons that could've been easily avoided
Good thing I don't store my NES games in a tropical jungle.
My own collection has nes games with broken contacts
Contacts can be replaced
Yeah, by soldering. It's far from customer friendly.
Of course things have a limited lifespan if you dont maintain them.
healthy NAND literally need decades for die. Have you seen how long it takes to actually kill a usbstick or ssd? about years of terabytes readwrites. Thats 24/7 not just the small read/writes we do day to day.
meh
I don't even care to hook it back up. the only thing I would ever play on it is ten times better on PC.
Mine's fine, I turn it on very often since it's the best video game console since the PS2
Fuck, how do I make a quick NAND backup? I lost mine because whole pc went kablooie
I "plugged in" my "Wii U". What now?
Mine turns on just fine and plays me some Breath of the Wild like it's supposed to.
booted up my back up Wii U and it worked fine
Do I get a Wii or WiiU for CFWing?
The only reason to get a Wii is to play on CRT at 240p. If you are not planing to do that Wii U is better in every capacity.
But I hate the WiiU Gamepad. Can I throw it away when I CFW'd the console?
The Wii U gamepad is more or less essential to the console.
Then Wii it is.
Mines back at my parents place but likely fucked. Wasn't able to boot it for a while because the dog chewed up the power cable and then when I finally got a new one (several months after actually) I realized it had chewed up the gamepad cable as well so I might not have actually booted it.
It's just a matter of having to power it up regularly right?
There is only one way to find out.
Tell your parents to find your console with the weird tablet thing, and to plug it into the wall. Tell them to tell you what they see on the controller screen.
Works for me.
My MH3U machine still working for now
I already know anon... Happened years ago and i will forever be sad about it unless i actually find money for a second hand one, and when i finally do it'll probably be scalped and overpriced if it is not already.
I don't care if it has a shit library the console itself was very fucking comfy and the few good games on it were really fucking great.
Switch might have a way better library but in terms of UI, user experience and soul it's literally a 20 dollar chink android handheld cimpared to U.
>get burned once
>want to get burned twice
are you retarded anon?
>unless i actually find money for a second hand one
How broke are you? You can find Wii U's for under $50
It's maybe worth half as much
I haven't seen them that cheap unless we talk something like buyee, where a cheap "heavily used" japanese console is practically pristine condition in the west, but i don't know if jailbreaking it would make it work in the PAL region
>when i finally do it'll probably be scalped and overpriced if it is not already
Everyone it's getting rid of them, if you don't mind a less than desirable one you can get one for $60 bucks, the ones in decent condition start at $90 and the almost brand new at $150.
You need to be Venezeluan to not be able to afford one.
Do you think it's better for the longevity of the NAND to store all games on external storage and use the NAND sparingly, or keep some frequently played games on the internal storage so that it sees more use?
Also, when are Splatoon and Kart going to be back up?
The switch has another 2 and a half years to go. Because Nintendo gotta pump out more DLC shit for the newest Zelda like they did with the last one.
the "newest Zelda" is DLC
My wii u is the wind waker bundle one with the unique WW controller. Am I safe?
Your console is bricked. Boot it up to see the black screen of death.
I'm good.
>2013 was 10 years ago
No. Mine died in the OP way years ago.
You can pair it to a new console though, since the controller is the only unique thing about it
I played the Wii U with my 5 year old two days ago, and it worked fine. This looks like custom firmware shit backfiring on people.
Can't be fucked to check since that means I would have to go into my attic and rummage around for it, but I'm assuming refurbished Wii Us are okay, right?
My refurbished Wii U is fine.
I had to break out some alcohol and cotton wipes to clean it but Metroid Prime booted up just fine.
I turned my one on and it seems fine. Is there some type of method that causes it to blow up? Also is there any reactions to it being discovered recently? I see lots of talk about it but no actually recent discovery’s about it.
is this just modtrannies bricking their consoles then blaming the hardware sure seems like it
Those were better times... I liked Wii U a lot, it was pretty comfy system.
I just bought Drill Dozer and Sin & Punishment yesterday on it
I have the Wind Waker limited edition wii u so maybe it has better parts than the original
How much was Drill Dozer?
8 or 10 bucks
It has rumble which is something you cant do with a rom
>bought
Why?
Ocarina of Time was retro when it came out on Wii VC less than 8.5 years after its original N64 release
Wii U is over a decade old
Wii U is retro
works just fine, tested with soultoon
to be fair I turned it on a couple months ago and it hasn't ever been left off for a super long time
Some devs/publishers are doing end-of-life sales on the Wii U, so take a dig. Wayforward has some offers I think.
I don't see anything good
https://www.nintendo.co.jp/software/campaign/index.html?cphard=wiiu
I doubt you'll find the same offers in every region. If your region's Japan though, bummer on the offers.
booted up my wii u a couple days ago, worked fine. lost my gamepad charger though so I have to wait for one of those to test a bit more shit other than just loading the home screen
Its the EPROM
Mine worked just fine. I have a Basic white Wii U from Christmas 2012. Is that a "bad" model?
I knocked my over the shelf it was placed on. Landed on a bunch of cables behind the shelf. When i turned it on it said there was a problem with the disc drive. Fuck
can you swap out disc drives from another unit?
>YOUR WII U NOW
sorry anon, as fate would have it I was in college during this era and had no money to buy one
dodged a huge bullet there
>First thing to do after cfw is backup nand
So it's nothing?
>Sasmsung
how fucked am I?
You're fucked as soon as you put your console back together, since you broke something when taking it apart.
what did he break?
We know that we somehow severed a wire by accident, or cut the connection on the motherboard, or zapped the whole thing with static electricity.
lmao nope it works fine
not the first time either. Reminder to replace the thermal pad which likely turned to dust
I hope they can fix the exploit with splatoon and put the servers up again, I wanna play again for old times sake
hope they don't just call it quits and nix the servers but I have a feeling they will
https://pretendo.network/
Legit stoked for this to finally go online
i wanna see my homescreen alive again. it was magical
Last console with soul.
What does it do?
replacement for the old nintendo online features
I can't think of single game I would need a wii u to enjoy
xenoblade chronicles x and modded mario kart wii, though technically you could just use a regular wii for the latter
XCX was unfinished garbage though
I don't want to. The only thing of value that would be lost is Ducktales Remastered.
I just got a refurbished one like a weak ago am I fucked?
Yes.
Well It came with a year warranty so at least I get my money back when it bricks
I turned it on fine the other day so I could buy some things.
>he bought a wiiu
You know the Switch is literally the exact same console with even more failure point, right?
Better hope Switch 2 is BC.
what failure points
It uses nan flash like the wii u, all you physical switch games will die too
>physical
lmao
Your switch will brick too
carts are rated at 20 years in 80 degrees celsius. unless you bake them in that temperature consistently, the lower temperature exposure will grant them longer persistence. the charge in them will fade but probably quite later than whatever is happening to those fucked nands in the wiius
Dude probably means flash memory on general.
cope
Is NUSSpli going to stop working at the end of the month? I've been procrastinating a bit on downloading everything I can.
Any hidden gems beyond what's on the Ganker recommended games wiki?
Ok
the ps2 era brought all these cunts into gaming
All will eventually return to dust.
Just checked it and it still works, luckily. Though I haven't hacked it yet, I need an external hard drive for that, right?
just an SD card to hack
better have usb storage to install games to though
>I need an external hard drive for that, right?
No
Mine still works
OH FUUUUCK I gotta check!
>Nintendo
>have a piracy problem
>Brick people's old consoles
>take away their ability to play games owned legally
>people pirate to play the games they already owned
>Piracy problem even worse now
genius. I wonder how many people will purchase WII Us from the store and find they're already bricked.
Works on my machine :^)
Opened up Super Mario World and it loaded a 2014 save state of me rage quiting while falling into lava. Soul.
I don't even have WiiU
I came here to shitposting
I use my Wii U all the time, shit's fine.
What do you play? Still do any Splatoon (prior to the online going down for security)?
I use it as a GameCube machine mostly. Gamecube's my favourite library of games, with Gameboy close behind, and it's nice having them in HD without emulation. Some 'cube games are not perfect on dolphin, almost everything is, but it's not 100%.
>Gamecube's my favourite library of games and it's nice having them in HD without emulation
Lol somebody tell him
I assume it can run the GC games natively through Wii mode despite lacking the necessary disk drive to use the proprietary CDs.
Wii is partially emulated in Wii U, dumb dumb
In what way?
It emulates some of the components.
That's right the Wii U doesn't emulate, it runs the games natively.
I just tried mine. I updated my Wii-U firmware and the Mario Maker I pirated is still there and works online. How the fuck was the Wii-U security so bad?
I got the Splatoon bundle. Am I safe? I already started it up and it works fine
at this point i'm convinced this "widespread issue" is just a ton of people regurgitating fake news.
So, wait, they shut down the Splatoon servers?
Supposedly it's only temporary.
>mfw it's not
it's to fix a massive exploit, like I've heard this exploit can basically get root level access on the system if the work is put in, so there's two possibilities, they patch it, which they've already shown they're capable of with other wii u/3ds games or if it's way too much work/impossible to patch they shut the servers down to avoid harm to unknowing customers, zero chance they leave the servers up with that vulnerability
>Left stick is fucked
>by chink replacements on ebay
>fucked even more
I don't want to buy a whole other gamepad.
Probably get some quality replacements for the next go.
have a nice day, retard.
Another blunder from shitendo
Should I be using an injector to play Wii games on a modded Wii-U, or should I just use the VM? Are there any bugs with injecting? Is it like emulation?
inject. it's much more convenient having all your games on your wiiu home
If you want Wii games you should get a original Wii, Wiimotes are funny and the console is less complex. The wii catalog/Virtual console fit in a 64GB sdcard
Playing Wii games on a Wii-U looks so much better... I'm not really sure how it works with custom games, but when I bought Metroid Prime trilogy it looked really good while on a real Wii it's really blurry. It still runs at Wii resolution, but it upscales the image
isn't wii's max res 480i or something, I wonder if wii u's wii mode makes that 480p and then upscales
Yea it definitely does that at least if you run them from the Wii-U menu. Idk if it does the same thing if you go into the virtual Wii first
Well most people are used to Wiis running at 480i via composite. The system looked good if you bothered to buy component cables for it, which also let you switch the output to 480p.
I don't think the VWii does anything special apart from just having an HDMI output, which is obviously just going to be lossless.
>Playing Wii games on a Wii-U looks so much better
Only because the Wii U has a native digital signal through HDMI. A Wii modded with WiiDual will look better.
If you change the resolution on the Wii U to 720 or 480 before launching a Wii game, the up scaling looks a lot better. At least with my setup it does, anyway.
I'm thinking of getting a regular Wii, too, since I've never had one and I think the games would look better on a CRT.
Also, I have the Hynix MMC. It may be over for my Wii U.
I have to disagree. It doesn't have HDMI, and the USB implementation on the Wii is dogshit. Most flash drives and HDDs will not work properly. There is a spreadsheet of drives that are known to work with the Wii, but most of the drives on it are around 10 years old and can't even be purchased anymore.
Bro, just put all games on a 64gb sd card which the Wii won't recognize and don't come here with facts disproving my retardation, okay? I'm cool
Pretty sure Wii supports up to 64GB, you just have to format it correctly.
The Wii officially supports up to 32gb, but if you just forcibly format your SD card as fat32 I don't think there's a real size limit for the SD slot. The system can hang trying to read cards that are too big but that's not a problem for Homebrew.
Of course I have a NAND backup. I keep a backup of all my consoles.
How would you even reaply it?
>Nintendo literally bricking their consoles so you're forced to buy an upgrade
I have not purchased a nintendo game in 10 years. I refuse to support this bullshit.
I just wanted to someone to make a CFW that had sleep mode support, if the wiiu wasn't slow as fuck to boot and load stuff I would use it more
>literally cant tell that is the problem, always is "put this number in Google"
I hate when companies hide everything in numeric codes with no context. It’s happened to me way too many times.
Has something happened or what? Hacked mine about a year ago.
The nand flash on some models is getting corrupted from not being used for a number of years which in turn bricks them. I know an anon linked a method you can use to check if you're console has the good nand flash that won't get corrupted from not being used.
Thanks. I have the Wii U at my parents house so guess I'll just have to tell my dad to turn it on or something.
I found the NAND backup that I made so I should be safe either way.
AFAIK there is no easy convenient way to restore a NAND backup though
All Wii U will probably die within your lifetime
Meanwhile, pic related is definitely last until the next century
Now with that shitty laser or shitty OPL compatibility lmao
>shitty OPL compatibility
I know what you look like.
Al right, tell me why shadow hearts 1 has a white screen when booting and redpill me why Klonoa has no sound effects
I had no problems playing shadow hearts, maybe you haven't configured it properly? I've been meaning to play klonoa, I'm sure it will be fine as well.
lmao ps2 dies if you look at it funny, I wouldn't be surprised if my current I haven't used in ages died randomly
I have a deluxe console and hope I don't have the shitty chinese part
how retard proof is WiiU CFW these days? Do you lose the system menu or anything with CFW?
https://wiiu.hacks.guide/ very easy
when hacking is done you don't really notice it, you open the homebrew launcher by opening mii editor (closing homebrew launcher will launch the actual mii editor). other than that you only lose the health and safety app
optionally you can later install aroma which turns homebrew into extra icons on the homescreen and makes the mii editor standard again
Why does the new hack use Mii Editor and Health & Safety instead of having decicated channels like Haxchi and Homebrew Launcher?
tiramisu was more robust. if anything was corrupted or you removed your SD card it would just go back to default wiiu behavior making you very safe against bricking
Works on my machine.
I used like 10 electronics wipes getting the dust off everything
My wii u kiosk seems to be fine, I haven't turned on my zelda edition wii u in many years tho...
Then do the following. Go to Mii Maker. Then to Amiibo Channel. Then launch a Virtual Console game. Then put a disk in and play it.
If all of those are fine, you are safe for the time being
nta but what do you mean amiibo channel
I opened disc splatoon, shovel knight download, mii maker, that amiibo app that lets you trial vc games, all fine, is my shit good for now?
For the time being.
Hack your system and make backups of the NAND. I will do the same when I get more time and money later this month.
I don't even know where I have my cables, I need to check.
>not touched Wii U since Switch
>get out, turn on
>works fine
>soulful mmiverse greets me
>soft BGM plays
>Xenoblade X still in drive
>games all safe in folders
We need to go back, the Switch is too soulless
Soul doesn't sell
Soulless sells
Cope gay, you will never see S O U L ever again
I'll take soulless instantly into games over soulful 20 sec waits to get into/out of games
yeah it's neat the first times you use the system or if you use it for the first time in a while but it's super fucking impractical trying to actually play on it
>I'll take soulless
Yeah, you would
>The impatient Adderall strung out zoomer enters the thread
never taken adderall, I just don't see the point of of staring at 15 seconds of blank white silent screens for 5 seconds of ui music every time I want to play a game
Couldn't agree more, people only don't care because the Wii U has no games.
God the Wii U eshop is so much better then the Switch's
> wiiu games aren't plentiful but some are really nice
> wii games practically native
> gamecube games practically native if you hack
> NES / SNES / DS VC injects
such a super super comfy console, if you can snag up a cheap wiiu secondhand i recommend it
>practically native
They're partially emulated
There's no such thing as "practically native"
The Wii U treats the Wii as if it's a new console, by apparently using half of the CPU, and running in the same way the Wii did. Nintendo did the same thing for DS games (including Game Boy Advance games) on the 3DS, and was the same process for Game Boy and Game Boy Color games to be played on the Game Boy Advance (although it was on startup, as a physical switch is involved).
This is not like how Sony or Microsoft handled things, where the systems don't need to go into a complete reboot mode (although the PSP menu is hidden in the Vita, and is unlocked with the Adrenaline hack, and it operates as its own program itself).
It emulates Wii components
It's not native
the wii runs natively while the gamecube features coming with the vwii, but it's still partially native.
those three consoles share the same CPU architecture.
>those three consoles share the same CPU architecture.
not exactly, the wii and gamecube absolutely do and the wii u basically has a wii system on a chip shipped on it but the main wii u cpu has nothing in common with the other two
WHAT THE FUCK MIYAMOTO IS KNOCKING ON MY
I have been playing my Wii U everday for the past few years since I hacked it. No reason to go check rn. I play it daily.
Is the nand backup supposed to shut down after it's finished? I have the 4 files on my SD Card so I assume it finished. Apparently you can use a Switch to run a recovery menu on the Wii-U if the Wii-U Gets bricked...
https://github.com/GaryOderNichts/udpih
Nvm apparently doesn't even work for this issue and its useless. whats the fucking point
i bricked my Wii U all by myself i didn't have to wait for the hardware to self destruct. i did a factory reset with hacks installed like a total retard. didn't use it for years, broke it out of the closet, hooked it up, figured i'd just start fresh and install cfw using whatever the current method was. i forgot factory reset would brick it
Will factory reset brick the Wii U on any CFW or just certain ones?
Nintendoland
Star fox
Game & Wario
Dr Luigi
Splatoon 1 and a Mario Maker are considered best on Wii U by some. Likewise, there are a lot of multiplats that have features unique to the Wii U, like Zombie U, Lego City Undercover, the Batman Arkham games. Definitive version of Rayman Legends.
The big one that people mention is Xenoblade X but I can't speak to that as I was kind of filtered by the soundtrack.
So what are some must play games locked on Wii U that haven't seen a port to Switch/other systems?
Kiboblade
xenoblade x is the one most brought up
There are none.
But it has a great virtual console if you aren't an emufag.
Xenoblade x that's it, I just use nine to play wii and gamecube games
Splatoon 1 is still the best one.
if the servers come back, but I still think the story is worth playing for splatoon fans
game and wario
nes remix
star fox zero
every nintendo ds game
really weird that they never ported nes remixes
or made snes remix
seems like they perfect thing to throw on switch online
they dont care anymore
Don't listen to those retards. Xenoblade X is fucking awful
nothing
Yoshi’s Woolly World and Captain Toad have their best versions on Wii U.
Elaborate
So can I hack the Wii U's Wii mode?
No it creates mustard gas
Yes but it has some limitations and there's some homebrew that won't work/
Yeah, there's some limits. If you want to run gamecube backups you can do that if you follow the correct wii u guide for nintendont
running games will mostly work just fine see https://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/WiiU_VC_Wii_inject_compatibility_list wii homebrew is another matter
gamecube is pretty much perfect if you set up nintendont
do tendys REALLY?
I haven't used my Wii U since the Switch came out, can someone tell me what the absolute fuck is even going on in this thread?
One or Two Wii U were found having some problem that make them softlocked.
>One or Two
Cases have been blowing up the last few months. These things are ticking time bombs.
see
tldr: some 32 GB Wii U with a Hynix NAND memory chips died.
it might be similar to the report a few years back of 3DS cardridges dying when it was mostly just a batch of faulty Pokemon ORAS.
Theory is Hynix chips are prone to failure over the console being unplugged for too long. Once your system memory corrupts (and you don't have a NAND backup to recover from), the console is dead for good.

https://gbatemp.net/threads/solved-oh-ffs-wii-u-error-160-0103-wii-u-semi-bricked-out-of-nowhere.398717/
There are a lot more news sources on this. This was an issue for years, but was silent until recently due to the closure of the eShop, and more Wii Us were being pulled out of storage and turned on.
>and more Wii Us were being pulled out of storage and turned on
this might actually be re;lated to those issue, as we don't know how those faulty wii u were stored
the gbatemp thread is actually from 2015, the console was only 3 years old.
if it's indeed this issue affecting some particular chips, then it has been ticking for a long time.
This issue has been going on for years, but was ignored until recently.
If only that were the case...
But no. This is to check to see if your system is bricked all because of faulty software.
how do you back up a logic gate?
I know you're trying to be clever, but you're not. You're retarded. People use NAND to refer to the storage chip in the console and you know that.
Did I hit a nerve accidentally?
this shit is so annoying the modern internet is filled with shills and retards so stuff like this takes forever to actually be reported.
>hey guys my controllers drifiting?
>NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NINTENDO DID NOTHING WRONG YOU BROKE YOUR CONTROLLER CHEETO FINGERS!!!!!
>hey guys my wii u is randomly broken?
>NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO YOU BROKE IT
people have been documenting this issue for months, there are just not as many cases as people think
Yeah, some people's Wiis are succumbing to bitrot already. It's unfortunate but that's just how the storage tech in these older consoles is. They'll all eventually stop working.
Just in time for the Wii Classic Mini! With over 6 games!
my old wii has been unpowered for ten years and still worked fine the other day when I booted it up to play.
Ok, good for you. I didn't say everyone's is. Marcan, one of the early Wii homebrew people lost his Wii to bitrot recently.
This is probably another case of shit being blown out of proportion.
Like the claims that Pokemon Sword and Shield bricked your system, or downloading the DLC for pokemon Scarlet and Violet deleted your save data
maybe, let's wait until people figure it out
>or downloading the DLC for pokemon Scarlet and Violet deleted your save data
That's actually a bug that has to do with Pokemon GO Postcards.
Yeah, no, I'd rather trust the scene than splatoon predator over here.
it's probably just the cmos
it's always the cmos
Is it worth putting cfw on my wiiu or should I just stick with loadiine? Not sure if I want to risk a brick when loadiine does everything I can think of I would want to do with the console.
Is this a tactic to "force" WiiU owners to play on said console in 2023?
I'm getting an 105-5256 error when I try to access the eShop, how fucked am I?
Did you leave the DNS block on?
I didn't put homebrew on it.
So if I'm understanding correctly, it's not a result of Wii U's with Hynix NANDs not being TURNED ON in years; it's not being plugged in AT ALL in years, right?
Either way, I've had mine plugged in since launch day, and I just found that it's a Samsung NAND, so I'm good.
How do you even check what NAND you have without ripping open the system or modding it?
You can't. You either rip open the system or mod it.
Well mine isn't a launch WIIU, so I'll bet it's not one of the bad chips.
Also I've had my WiiU plugged in for the entire time.
A correlation between when or where which chips were implemented hasn't been made so there's no confirmation without checking yourself
Except the only people complaining are those with launch WiiUs and haven't had them plugged in for years.
No. People with hynix NAND chips only for this error. I have a launch WiiU samsung chip and my system is fine.
>How do you even check what NAND you have without ripping open the system or modding it?
You don't, those are your two options as stated many times. There are literally over 10 posts on this thread talking about it. I fucking swear you guys don't read. Someone replied "what is this" to a series of posts explaining how to check it, and what tool to use.
>Your consoles will last forec-ACK
If the NAND corrupts, does that mean the NAND itself is fucked, or would restoring a backup (assuming it still boots to let you when CFW'd) address that?
It means that the system is bricked permanently, since each NAND is unique to the system, and if the NAND is corrupted, then there is no way to replace it. Period.
still works but I cant find my power adapter
I would but I lost the charger wire for this brick and it uses a non-standard socket.
Only game worth playing on it was zombiU anyway
checked mine and it works fine.
Also btw it's apparently really easy to hack but all the games worth checking out on it have been ported to the Switch as definitive versions.
So.. what worth can you squeeze out of this thing?
You can unfuck the dimmed VC image, make N64 render widescreen, take screenshots, use bluetooth controllers (mostly Sony ones) on Wii U games, inject Wii games on the Xenoblade VC so you can use Wii U peripherals (including the gamepad) to control them.
Mine works perfectly, I just played BotW and MK8 on it yesterday. Is this a guaranteed happening past a certain amount of time? What causes it?
Age and hardware degradation.
No cause has been determined, despite anons insisting there's a link to the brand of NAND.
Every Wii U will be bricked 20 years from now.
Everyone who owns a Wii U is also going to die some day. Many won't outlast their Wii Us.
If I have a nodded wii u how do I check my nand?
By reading the thread.
Just tell me I'm running ou
daily reminder
It's too small to see
what a classic
>sees a brown spider
>"i-it's a brown recluse!"
Every time with these retards.
Of course I do. I buy hardware.
Meanwhile, rom monkey has to steal its bananas like a monkey stealing shoes from Wal-Mart. Stupid monkey.
>Of course I do. I buy hardware.
Very nice, now show us your hard copies of updates and DLC.
Is the XCX 'install' DLC still available on the store?
Yes, you still have 2 weeks to download it.
Is it not like the Wii where you won't be able to purchase new shit, but as long as your system/account has a registered license for it, you can freely redownload?
My wii u bricked so i bought another wii u, and found out i couldnt transfer my nintendo ID and purchases unless the other wii u was still functional to do a system to system type transfer
that happened with my 3ds, glad switch don't got this issue
After 2 weeks, you won't be able to buy new shit, however you can redownload it.
If I start downloading like mad will Nintendo come knocking? Do I need a VPN?
Nintendo doesn't do shit. Even the guy they sued for leaking New Super Mario Bros. didn't have to pay anything.
As far as I understand, they are too incompetent to track you down, but I still used one to be safe. I got a DMCA take down letter one time for downloading Nintendo roms.
You can still get replacement batteries.
I have a WD Elements and a Y cable in the back. No issues so far.
GaryOderNichts mdinfo github
Western Digital owns SanDisk?
>SanDisk is a brand for flash memory products, including memory cards and readers, USB flash drives, solid-state drives, and digital audio players, manufactured and marketed by Western Digital. The original company, SanDisk Corporation was acquired by Western Digital in 2016.
lol just dont have it connected to the internet.
Anyway, mine is behind my tv. I havent touched it in like 2 or 3 years. WiiU is my biggest buyer remorse, I still cant believe I bought it just for Xenoblade X.
I put like 300+ hours in Mario Maker and got BotW a week early without having to buy a Switch or the game so I can't say I'm too upset.
Why ? It can play natively GC/Wii games, you can play DS games on the gamepad and it runs really well, other retro games on the gamepad is also nice since it's a 480p screen, it scales well.
And it's the only console that gives analogue and digital video output at the same time without any mod or with adapters.
Finally in the futur it could be the rarest Nintendo console ever since so many of them already died and since there aren't a lot in the wild to begin with.
The price could sky rocket making it sweet to resell. I dunno anon how you could even regret buying this.
>And it's the only console that gives analogue and digital video output at the same time without any mod or with adapters.
Rendered moot by its inability to output 240p, really.
I forgot how fucking big the power brick was on this system.
The battery on my pad is dead since miiverse surfing. Im good if my Wii U dies. I had only shit Nintendo games.
Fronks is the only reason to still have a Wii U plugged in.
Fuck Tippy Tower
Can't even find the charger cable for the WiiU tablet. Thx Nintendo for the propriety port.
Aliexpress should have China bootleg quality ones.
I ended up finding it. Forgot the charger for the controller had its own fucking brick and mistook it for the Wii's AC brick.
I got one USB to Wii U gamepad charger at Gamestop couple years ago. Still works.
Checked my wiki, still turns on.
So I slapped homebrew on that shit with that one guide, now I can run apps and everything.
I need a hard drive for games though, what do anons use? Yes I know about the y cable
I just use a flash drive
Mine is stuck on the Wii u screen.
I own three WiiUs, all of them launched perfectly.
>WiiU started up fine, apparently was playing W101 on it last
>Stopped using the system a month after BotW hit
>It's been unplugged since then until an hour ago
>System booted fine, OS updated fine
Guess my model is in the clear if it survived being unused for over five years.
Time to replay W101 I guess.
>Nintendo doesn't tie anything 'free' to your account ownership
I hope this shit is still downloadable when they disable the ability to purchase new things. Were there any downloadable games worth a fuck on WiiU? Only shit I ever bought on its store was the MK8 DLC and Pushmo World (where the fuck is the next entry?).
Yes, if you tie the games to your Nintendo ID, you can still access the eShop and re-download anything you already bought or downloaded before.
Jesus fuck I forgot how slow everything about the OS the WiiU was, and this is already after they roughly halved the load times on everything from launch-era.
How's the N64 emulation on Wii U? I wanna play Paper Mario.
wii's is better I've heard
switch is also good for most games
(me)
to add to this for some reason on wii u they added some shitty dimming filter
it sucks
use the vWii version instead
>Paper Mario.
Pretty sure that's on the virtual console
