Religion is a part of humanity, as much as ingenuity and knowledge. It has shaped every aspect of our species, as our species has shaped it. it is our truest expression of our innate capacity for abstract thought.

If you deny this, you deny humanity.

going in 8 directions is better that going in 6 plus doing laterally or vertically dont cost more with squares

              Anonymous

The distance you move diagonally on a square grid is 41% further than moving cardinally. That means moving in a straight line diagonally takes almost half as many turns as it should. The Hexagon fixes that by making it so all directions are equal and no advantage is gained for any movement pattern. Sure, moving directly in the cardinal directions takes extra moves to keep you on course, but you could hypothetically rotate the grid so that north, and south but not east and west are in line, or east and west are in line but not north and south. It's not perfect, but it's better than squares.
Squares only work for chess because most of the pieces and the pawns move only cardinally anyway. The Queen, which was added much later, Bishop, and Knight are the only ones who don't. The King actually really benefits from the extra buff of diagonal movement, so in that case it's good.

Civ 4 is dogshit because the AI doesn't even try to hide that it cheats
This is a turn-based game and yet you need to play at a fast pace or else the AI will grab all the territory and then show up to wipe you out with a massive army
Also religion system fricking sucks because it will make it so all your annoying neighbours will group into a best buddy reddit gang that will collectively gang up on you when you declare war on one of them, and then if you and your annoying neighbour are the same religion you can't really go to war with him anymore

          Well, I disagree.
The ham-fisted climate system is just unfun, it sucks ass. It's obvious that they weren't seeking to make an actual, engaging addition to the game, they just wanted to put it in on ideological grounds.
The art style is hideous. It prevents you from taking the game seriously.
War is penalized far too hard.
Civic system is a good idea for something that replaces the very railroad-y Social Policy system in V, but in practice you just kinda look at it once or twice to pick one of the 3 viable ones and never look at it again.
Governor system is half-baked. Okay, it lets you specialize cities, towards certain things, cool. But why does every civ have the same fricking pajeet, kraut and chink as their governors?
Districts are an okay-ish addition. It's certainly better than the one-tile megacities from previous games, but the art style fricks this up as well, every city even with it's districts looks like a village because of how individual objects are scaled.
Loyalty is a decent addition. Frick AI that spammed garbage cities next to you on the other side of the planet.

It is engaging, you spring ahead of everyone tech wise, polute the frick out of the world, and have the tech to protect yourself from the consequences while everyone else drowns.

I tried polluting the shit out of the entire world in a run recently but unfortunately it really doesn't do a that much other than taking away some coastal tiles and causing some natural disasters. It's really half baked. The whole "pollute the world so everyone else suffers" angle doesn't really work that well.

Ashes is good. I like the Magister Modmod also. Can be a pain in the ass to get modmods working though so you can just play vanilla to get the hang of it. Some of the new civs are annoying though but you can just disable them.
