10% to miss means on average you hit 9 times and then miss once. That means you miss a 90% attack almost every fight. You notice those more giving you a biased picture.

    Baldur's gate 3 is horrendous!
    >Game creator prioritizes black traits and facial structures
    >Game has default pronouns set to they/them but you can change them back to normal
    >turn based combat (it's just that bad)
    >The voice acting is impecable, you can notice most of them are black
    >All mini bosses have variants of the same golden and gray armor and they want to kill you on sight
    >Everytime they kill you they say "such inferior being, horse will love thy meat"
    >All major boses are female, you would avoid dozens of tiny enemies and then a stronger female boss will appear
    >there's an unskipable gender bending quest in which you and your party switches genders until you finish it and it's necessary to beat the game
    >Final boss is a chud who turns out to be the hero and the white king from the first kingdom is the real villain and the real final boss.
    >There's a reference to Ukraine War (it's very subtle)
    >One NPC references to gamergate
    >you achieve completion in less than 10 hours
    >NG+ barely changes the difficulty
    >NG++ locked behind a paywall
    >When you get the option to customize your character and even change generds an NPC will say "I'm glad you are proud of who you really are"
    >There's a paint job for every LGBTQ+ flag and they are all free and ate already unlocked.
    >at the end of the world there's a cave in which there's a black lives matter mural.
    >Nearby there's an upgrades cache that will give you a special item called "Civil dream sword" (references to civil rights movement)
    >The merchants will often mention of how there's always "evil beings" stealing the lighting of more deserving people (probably a reference to how morons believe that Edison stole a black man's invention when he made the lightbulb despite this not being true)
    >There's a Chadwick Bozeman reference, in an ancient scroll that tells the story of a warrior that was "as fierce as a panther"
There's lots of other shit the devs crammed in there just to tell that they hate their audience

      Anonymous

I'd be so over this shit as a dev that I'd just fudge any roll above a certain percentage in my games. Like, if the hit chance is over 80%, just always make it connect to stop whining retards.

        Anonymous

80% is nowhere near a guarantee, that's a 1 in 5 chance to miss or in other words it's a BIG CHANCE TO MISS for you retards. The closer you get to 100 the bigger each percentage means, improving your odds from 90% to 95% doubles your hit chance.
But average Ganker tard sees 80% and thinks he's entitled to a hit every single time, it's beyond me how many people think this is an acceptable thing to expect.

          Anonymous

People are too used to crit chance stat that often feels like critting all the time the moment you get like 40-50%. Having a mix of white and yellow (crit) numbers feels less punishing than some outright MISS messages. Of course it changes once again in some games that let you stack like 1000% critical damage, and normal hits basically become misses.

  20. 2 weeks ago
    Anonymous

There's a problem, several in fact, but it's absolutely not your idea of 91%=100%

    >The AC system simply doesn't make sense. It doesn't mechanically distinguish between hitting a fly and a sleeping adamantite-scaled dragon (even with 3.5e additions of flatfooted/touch AC that gesture to this direction, it really doesn't): rather, it tries to clump up wide array of combat factors ranging from protection offered by armor to a defensive combatant failing to find a good opening and only delivering a glancing blow, and treats all of them indistinguishable from the attack being dodged
    >In general, it's "all or nothing", which doesn't at all capture the idea of armor (or thick hide or whatever) offering protection
    >d20 rolls have poor properties for probability-distribution: the distribution is flat and outlier events are as likely as common ones, and these outlier events happen "routinely"
    >as a corollary to the previous point, 5e offers very limited room to stack numbers in your favor, the system handles probabilities disgracefully when getting close to +20 difference (jumping from 19 rather than 20 advantage doubles the effectiveness, while 21 instead of 20 does literally nothing), rolling with an advantage is the only thing that allows you to nudge the numbers more to your favor, and besides that fact that it doesn't make thematic sense either, it creates a weird discontinuity in the probabilities
    >etc

That is to say, the problem is a mindless and braindead system that offers little to no tactical depth, little to no character-building depth, and is supremely unthematic and as such distracts rather than facilitates makebelieve, emergent narratives, and roleplay: you can't give "failing to damage the enemy when you have 91% chance of hitting" narrative meaning when AC is so disastrously bad at simulation that damage resolution doesn't map to anything concrete in the game world.
