I didn't say they should. But a game designer who's never visited the site is simply a larper. Kind of like anons who pretend to know all about women but are in fact virgins.
Pick any moment from a piece of media. That's a trope.
Enemy who becomes a companion? Trope. Vampire companion? Trope. Vampire companion who is immune to vampire weaknesses? Trope.
Basically any kind of recurring idea, theme, plot device in media. But tvtropes in particular goes way overboard and designates every millisecond of anything as a trope; there's probably something on there about the opening cinematic
of BG3 being pre-rendered (that's a trope), or even some shit about the main menu.
It's a fun timesink if you're interested in that kind of thing but it's so often bloated with nonsense that it seems pointless after a while.
yes... some of the tropes are more "real" than others. some are just a necessity of film making or story telling. Like sure, every story needs a villain... and if it doesn't have a villain, then that will define the genre or the type of story it is. It's inevitable.
but still, at least it's thorough for those of us who have the faintest clue about story telling.
The sites more interesting when you read the other way around, picking a trope and seeing what pieces of media have that in common. Going down the list of a single piece of media is just an alphabetical list of all of its abstracted details.
I actually used to lurk KYM for a few years and make posts around the place, for some reason it had a lot of bronies, but then it had a lot of horny shit and some entries were nothing but porn dumps of specific fetishes and artists, but posting a nipple was still a huge no. The website is basically a ghost town by now with a few contributors, from the looks of it there's an article published every 15 minutes or 30 minutes and it's probably mostly AI-generated, or the staff members are paid to do it a few hours a day, but the main page looks like a tabloid.
it means that he had never visited tvtropes before
I haven't visited the BG3 tvtropes page but I can assume it's extremely large
what sort of game designer has never visited tvtropes?
Why would any sane fucking person care about that website?

Nothing. He wants impressions.
The End.
He didn't suspect a hive of autists would make up thousands of tropes no one would understand or have heard of?
yeah they don't seem to understand that autists play their vidyagame
wtf is a trope?

And D&D fans and players are 90% tropes, the shittiest fandom
tropes are to fiction as garden gnomes are to problems in nations

Karlach broke up with me after telling her to attack Gortash in our meet-up even when she was approving of it. Just noticed after 3 hours of progress.
Is there anything more gay and "Reddit" than tvtropes?
swen is legit an idiot
Dude really needs to pull his head out of the egalitarian sphincter and realize that men and women have different interests.
