They're good, the combat is good but only works in this games, the predator sections are Kino but once you get the hang of it it becomes too easy, the visuals are great, the stories are decent, the locations and exploration are Kino, the female characters have some of the best coomer designs which is very based, you have play them all at least once in your life

They make people who would never be able to "feel like Batman" feel like Batman because they're designed for the lowest common denominator. The sole exception is Arkham Knight and it's why the game was so hated by the angry joe audience- it actually gives you the tools and playground to feel like Batman, but forces you to actually do it yourself

They are literally my favorite games of all time.
I don't know why people said that the series was getting stale, i have tons of ideas for improving the formula. My dream game is a new Batman game with all my ideas in it. I got monkey paw'd hard with Gotham Knights.

My post reads very schizophrenic, but that's how much i love these games.

Downgraded bossfights is the consensus. Some people hate the batmobile. Personally, i hate how small and fake looking the Gotham city map feels.

I expected a map like the one we are getting for Gotham Knights, that's why i say i got monkey paw'd: great map, worse looking gameplay and no Batman.

The boss fights are comically bad in AA and AC though. At least they tried in AC, but AA... kek.

Fun combat, great atmosphere, prettyu good looking to this day just because of really solid art direction, good writing, a lot of content without overstaying it's welcome and they pull a lot of stuff from the world of Batman which makes it feel authentic without just shitting references into your face and having you have no clue what's going on if you aren't familiar with Batman.
    Basically capeshit done right.

It's fun in the same way that Assassin's Creed 2 was fun: you turn your brain off for a few hours and enjoy the ride. Although I'm no comic book nerd, I thought the characterization was on point. The games are quite atmospheric, but they grow increasingly less so further into the series. Arkham Knight was still fun though.

I'll just bite the bullet and get the collection
    One thing though:
Arkham Collection on steam only comes with Asylum, City and Knight + season pass.
Is Origins some kind of different company or whatever? Should I bother buying it standalone?

Origins was made by WB Montreal (the devs that are making Gotham Knights). It has it's moments, but definitely feels more like a mod of Arkham City; however, definitely wort a shot, if you liked the trilogy,

Origins is not bad but it's nothing new for the series. It's essentially more City just worse in some ways. If you really like City then go for it.
Also it takes place on Christmas eve which automatically makes it a great game especially if you actually play it around Christmas.

Origins was by a different team and has a far different map that doesn't mesh with what City set up on top of a lot of slightly off-feeling combat and mechanics. It's still canon to the universe and mostly plays the same, it just doesn't feel like it has the Rocksteady polish.

They're a nice mix of stealth, fighting and environmental puzzle solving. They take really good bits of Metal Gear and Metroid and mash it together with a surprisingly satisfying if weird combat engine in-between. You've got to play it on hard to get the most out of it though.

Origins is a buggier, jankier, dumber version of City but it's still worth playing if you like the others.

Also, these games are never not on sale. As their biggest fan don't know if i should be proud or ashamed of that. I paid full price for them and bought them twice. Hell, i was thinking in buying me a copy of the Wii U port of City, but apparently it has several glitches in CEMU, and i don't want to buy a Wii U just for it.

Should I play M+K or gamepad? I'm leaning towards gamepad for a game like this

Also I don't really care about Batman but I am a sucker for exploring and collecting trinkets. What else does the game offer?

          Anonymous

I played them first with KB+M and they play fine, but i'm a controller gay, so i prefer them with controller.

          >What else does the game offer?
Well, the loop is melee fights, stealth fights, bossfights, setpieces and a big collectathon in between all that. I warn you, most people are not fans of the colectathon part, they find it tedious and say that won't even try to get all the items once. I collect them all in each playthrough, but i'm not a fan of it for different reasons.

You underestimate me. I am an Assassin's Creed veteran who always collects all the crates on the map. The only game that beat me was Witcher 3, frick getting all the collectables in Skellige

Definitely my favorite game series. Consistently good and it's also the only game series I've bothered to 100% and I hate doing that sort of thing in other games. I've also played them all way too many times. I will openly shill for this game at any time.

Release. I think going to Asylum after any of the sequels would be jarring, as it's the most limited gameplay wise.

    really solid 3D metroidvania design
    shitloads of kino villains
    satisfying combat
predator sections are underrated and it's incredibly fun to use a wide variety of takedowns
tons of content in challenge mode
    cozy atmosphere

Were you around before Batman: Arkham Asylum got released in 2009? If not, capeshit games back then had a notorious track record of being shitty poorly made cashgrabs.
And then Batman: Arkham Asylum came along and proved that capeshit games could be GOTY material too. If the devs actually put some goddamn effort into them. Ganker might have a hate boner for every game in this series that isn't Asylum and City, but I assure you that even the weakest Arkham entry is still miles better than most other capeshit you'll find on the market.

always liked that AA and City went for an Alex Ross vibe with Batman
Batman in these games is the martially superior super genius we know from the comics and his personality is lifted directly from BTAS thanks to Dini. I appreciate those moments of compassion Bruce feels for the civilians he rescues as well as for the villains like Croc and Clayface who are more damaged than evil.
Would have appreciated some more RPG and detective elements. The sequences in Origins are the best for capturing the World's Greatest Detective imagery, but I would've loved something reminiscent of the gameplay seen in Telltale Batman showing up in between instances of typical Bamham gameplay

I only played the first mission of Telltale but that sounds based as frick, the action of bamham with a proper detective game would be a dream come true, also i remember it was very gory, to me, Batman games should be M rated like that.

They are a case study on licensed vidya done right. They put so much care and love on the lore and the details that you might start to gain interest in Batman thanks to these games.

The gameplay is alright, kinda revolutionary when you realize they nailed this unique system from scratch. It's simple but flashy.
The games are by no means perfect, not even particularly great. But they're done with a lot of passion.

My advice OP. When you first play, just try to win. I mean try not to die during the combat and predator (stealth) sections. But as you get better at the game, your approach should change to trying to be as creative and impressive as possible, rather than just trying to win. From City onwards, and especially in Knight, the game offers so many tools to make use of, but they can all be ignored for the most basic approach instead. You need to make your own fun instead of just trying to not die, very much like a DMC game. There should be lots of videos on YouTube of creative thing people have done to inspire you. None of this applies to Asylum which has barely any tools to use at all.

You don't even need to watch Youtube videos, just look at the quick gadget key combos and try to weave them in since Asylum only has quick Batarangs and the later ones have the kitchen sink. Finishers are by far the easiest to learn because it's just A+B, X+B, X+Y, Y+B. Then learn how to weave in stuns, super stuns, Batclaw takedowns, and in Knight the special variants when you have finishers, etc. The thing everyone instantly knows how to do is account for the double combo boost timings, it's crazy how that instantly becomes something you do instead of mashing once you unlock it without even thinking even in tense situations.

        Moose

        Whoops, not X+B, X+A.
