I love when smug developers mock their fans and think they are untouchable, then get a smack in the mouth when nobody buys their garbage.

They've been a complete joke since 4. Is it too much to ask to focus on creating a good game rather than sending a political message?

It was a dev event where they had comments from the BFV teaser scroll across as a V rises up with #everyonesbattlefield plastered across it.

Who the FRICK wanted Battlefield to become a hero shooter? This is just further proof that this industry is completely out of touch with what consumers want.

      Oldgay DICE devs it seems.

      Proof?

They left to make their own studio and made "The Finals", a Brink/Dirty Bomb clone but with SUPERPOWERS! [tm].

Greed and incompetent devs. Looks like players don't matter anymore, it's more about sending the message and promoting popular political beliefs. I haven't played this series since bf4 but I have seen the state of this "game" at launch. There is not excuse for this.

  7. 10 months ago

    EA's endless greed.
All competent devs have left Dice long ago.
Those who remain have no clear vision, no talent or experience to make decent game.
2042 is rushed, directionless game, very little content, lots of things nobody asked for.
The series is probably dead now as there is very tiny chance for them to make a good game after 2 failures in a row.

The game is actually pretty decent now and better than BF1, imo. But the initial launch has tainted it forever so it's shit.

I assume 7 is going to be either a 70s-80s Cold War setting, or a 90s-00s BF2-like setting. EA won't agree to the far-future era because "We just did the future with 2042 and it didn't do well!". They could technically do WW2 focused on the Eastern Front, but I don't think that would work with the Ukraine shit going on right now.
Either way, I don't expect much.

    >What went so wrong
The talent who made the prior games great left the studio, EA got greedy and wanted to make every game a live service, they kept releasing broken games that barely worked after 3, they basically hired fresh grads who're more activists than game developers, the C suite went woke, and finally, they literally ditched the whole battlefield way of things on 2042 and on 5 they were already ditching the vehicle combat for more COD style combat.

Did they ever add the class system back? I'm not going to play it even if they did, but I'm just wondering if they admitted the operator system is thrash and tried to bring back some goodwill by backtracking on their shitty game design.

its funny because they have a dev post from just recently about "how important squads are" and what they are doing about that with patches. the whole time the game has been attempting to chisel back something that resembles BF from the garbage they launched, with patches like this (which they never will because they are building on a rancid swamp, the game doesn't even have building destruction ffs).
like they got a decent-ish little game going, fricking 2 years or w/e after launch. compared to the open beta anyway, not compared to BC2 or something, it's still very CoD lone wolf run'n'gun, but it's alright for 10 bucks on sale.
the whole dev cycle and management is rotten, even if there are devs taht want to make a BF game they can't, best they can do it polish whatever turd they dump out over a couple years of patch support, then it's onto the next trend-chasing CoD-fellating woke shit they have to make next.
I'd wanna say DICE should split like Bungie did, but that didn't exactly work out for Destiny2. they got even greedier and low effort somehow lmao

There needs to be a group of OCE guys that get together and play. There was ~8 people when Venice Unleashed released (BF3 Mod).
BF4 is fricked on OCE. Hz stackers + commander, vehicle mains farming everyone like that have for hte past 10 years. Lockers server full of super sweats, movement gltiches + cheaters.

They should just do a character creator where you customize your looks and loadout into presets and switch between them during matches.

Lack of ideas and cooperate greed.
Its not enough for them to just release a new BF. it HAS to follow trends. For some moronic reason despite Firestorm failing they thought another attempt at BR would be a great idea and spent ages making that until halfway through somewhat they should abort it into a more classic BF style.
Now they've spent the last year trying to add back features missing that almost every other BF had at launch.

That's not how that works, they only care about retention and selling store items. There were most certainly not enough players to continue full support which is why the game is getting barely any.

The next game needs to be a home run. They cannot keep pumping out games that die a few months after launch because there's no money to be made in the long run and their company of 600+ employees cant sustain itself that way while also keeping up with EA's standards. Visceral games seemed fine on the surface but when Dead Space 3 couldn't sell an unrealistic amount of copies even though the game did fine EA axed them, wouldn't surprised if EA just did the same and relied sole on the sports shit to keep on making money.

Their days are numbered, DICE dont have the luxury of having absolutely moronic Black person tier players to keep on buying their game regardless of the quality. They're working with a playerbase that's actually conscious

it doesn't work. Sale revenues alone aren't guaranteed to break even anymore. Development costs have gone up exponentially while most AAA games are still sold at $60 like they were 40 years ago. Devs need microtransactions to bring in the real profit. Without them, you can have a game that sold millions like Anthem and still flopped.

Modern day DICE for being incompetant and woke.

Yes. Chasing trends rather than being a Battlefield game.
When a Candy Crush dev is overlooking Battlefield... There's a problem.

      >game companies realize that they can still make money by only pandering to a niche audience

It would make me happy if that also meant we'd finally stop getting slop that was aimed at 99% of the global population, but they're still going to remake part x of an existing IP and cram it full with MTX instead of just making a passion project
