I didn't make steam my identity, epic made hating them part of my identity when they delisted Unreal Tournament from every store, took 3 years to add a shopping cart, and complained about monopolies while monopolizing game releases for a while to their store. I go to GOG, Itchio, and myabandonware regularly. The only thing I even use epic for is free games, that I don't even install, I just want to add to a statistic that shows their store is not as profitable as investors want it to be and that people just use it for free games.

What if I don't like juggling stores/ launchers? I literally cannot remember what I have on my multitude of other launchers, I don't boot up multiple game launchers a day. Like, if you asked me what I have on my uPlay and Origin, I cannot remember. Watchdogs? ME Andromeda and DA Inquisition I guess? A Far Cry game? Juggling libraries is an awful feeling.

EGS is a piece of shit chinkesium invader, the people behind that company dont care at all and their 'solution' is to bribe publishers into making second rate garbage exclusively. I will never use that store for anything, I used to have an account and claimed that shitty total war game. Nobody bought that game on steam because nobody cares about a game you can get for free. Everyone knows free games must have some flaw, otherwise they'd sell them. In the case of EGS, youre the product, they try to weaponize their customerbase against steam. All of the things people like to rave about, like steam taking access to media away, that shit would be the norm if EGS was in the same position. Fuck chinese corrupt pseudo commies, fuck egs.

    >Epic's investment in technology
Epic's investments in "technology" has led to UGLY grafics post processing bullshit that make even 4090s chug, and Unreal Engine Tools that are a fucking pain in the ass. Epic has caused HARM, steps backwards. They compound on it with fucking hostile business practices, pulling console war bullshit on the PC platform just like Origin and Battlenet had tried before with their equally abysmal stores.
Epic should be fucking erased, the company, the store, and the Unreal engine.

Meanwhile, Valve's investment in Linux has made astronomical leaps in a way that matters and has positive kickback to performance and compatibility for all games, allowing the community to future-proof against operating system obsolescence and software incompatibility in future Windows editions.
The only other digital store that is actually cool is GOG and that's because they just do their thing, they have endeavored to provide a good* service (superior in a few respects) with optional features, and you don't even need any fucking launcher.
*Barring the not uncommon version/patch lagging behind the Steam version, but that's more the fault of the devs not updating shit.

this is true to some extent but if they really want to future proof they need to retool steam to not use chromium as a backend, cause right now instead of being at the mercy of microsoft they're at the mercy of google maintaining support for linux. The entire reason that steam's not gonna work on windows 7 anymore is because the chromium features they're adding aren't compatible with 7.

Bro Valve didn't need Epic for that. Even now, after the Steam Deck release, they're prepping for a Steam Machine+VR release soon.

I'd be more inclined to like and actually use the Epic Game Store if they
    >had a shopping cart
    >didn't have fraud protection for buying multiple games that stops your purchase since there was no shopping cart
    >had user reviews
    >had optimized store loading between library and the store itself
    >had community controller configs
    >had community hub and forum for individual games
    >had achievements
    >had library organization by genre, title, time played, or whatever you want it to be
    >had player profiles
    >had direct chat, group chat, call, and emote options
    >had a friend list that you could just join in on their game
    >etc...
ON LAUNCH. It took over a year for some of these, being shopping cart and reviews, to be added while others were added far later or simply never. EGS' main function is to further feed my game hoarding addiction. First impressions are important and theirs was a bare bones corpse that they dressed nicely and gave you a $50 to pretend that it's alive and good company. Why would I bother with an inferior in nearly every way launcher when Steam has everything and more that I need?

  34. 2 weeks ago
    Anonymous

if the epic store was a genuine competitor to steam, then they wouldn't have to buy out exclusives. people download steam to buy a game, but they stay on it because of all the extra shit valve offers. achievements, an item market, linux support, a whole social network in the form of the community tab, etc. epic will only ever be a way to launch and buy games, and it doesn't even do that well.

I just built a gaming PC this year and it’s clear as day which is a better choice to use. There is no way I’m ever splitting up my library by using EGS. Steam has been around forever and it’s already a nuisance to have to use the different accounts from EA and Blizzard to play their games, Epic can fuck right off.
