to be honest i've never given much of a frick about the campaign in these games, but it has by far the best mp/skirmish in the series. you can do some really crazy shit and the maps are quite interactive

It is a great game but it isn't retro. More balanced than any other game in the series.

this was the game where they really figured things out. previous entries in the series always felt middling to me, but this one felt like a complete package in a way that no other RTS had since BW. gameplay is very refined and well-balanced despite having an enourmous number of gameplay mechanics, and the audio-visual design is excellent. frankly, i can't think of much to criticize. it's always been puzzling to me that this game doesn't have more fans when it effectively brought C&C into the HD era with few blemishes, and even fixed a lot of what was broken. maybe it suffered from series fatigue and coming out during a time when the RTS genre was about to die, but you'd think the hardcore fanbase would still love it, and yet, there's just nothing there. very unfortunate, it's one of the best games in the genre for sure.

      >you'd think the hardcore fanbase would still love it, and yet, there's just nothing there
It's still actively played to this day, tournaments and all. Online still works and is still balanced and modded with patches all the time. Masterleaf made a 4K mod for it last year too.

Look up Sybert, Masterleaf, Bikerushownz, Green_Zero, SpartacusTV (for older game castis).
All the vets are still playing and there's still newcomers popping up every now and then. They're still coming up with some insane plays to this day.

Good game but absolutely raped by updates. The final patch wanted to nerf online rush gameplay, so it halved the amount of money you get from each harvester load. No adjustments were made to the campaign, so you now just get half as many units in every single campaign stage. Some of them have become literally impossible on hard as a result.
There's no way to downgrade the steam version's patch, so I had to uninstall the steam version, install a pirated version, patch it to the desired level and then install a crack from fricking gamecopyworld like it was 2007 again. Thanks EA.
    Game's good tho

RA2 and TS were fun as frick because they were ridiculously imbalanced. C&C3 is just another Starcraft reskin.

Not when it's either the AI or a multiplayer opponent spamming imbalanced shit against you, aka the Dune 2000 Ordos frickery. C&C 3 actually had attention put into unit design and balance that didn't make one of the factions the only good one in the whole game.

    >C&C3
    >best RTS
Not even close. It’s a good game, but there are several other C&C games and Blizz titles ahead of this one in the line. I liked Generals way more than 3. EA’s acquisition of Westwood and its consequences have been a disaster for the C&C franchise. They totally tanked the franchise after this one.

3 fixed a lot of flaws in the Generals W3N engine, and made it faster. Generals just gets memed by Ganker a lot because muh wacky terrorists despite it just being a one-click command power game.
Also, this might surprise you but it was Westwood who destroyed themselves, rather than EA. In fact EA was just acting as their safety net for their expensive (half of them failed) projects until they could no longer keep the studio running.

Generals' issue is more that deathballs are the name of the game. Unsurprisingly its lead designer left to work on Starcraft 2, which is also a deathball game.
I love both games but it's a legit criticism of them.

Low IQ is praising EA because big name AAA games good
Average IQ is hating EA because big publishers bad
High IQ is realizing that publishers like EA are a necessary evil to keep the developers with zero money sense in check.
