It's pretty good. My main complaint is the game lost most of its verticality in favour of more horizontal exploration. I like the new roll and air dive to the hat mechanic. Combine that with a turn-around jump into a wall jump into a hat throw into a dive plus a double jump and you can scale some tall walls in some areas. Overall I'd say it's the best 3D Mario to date but in terms of movement and mechanics, I like sunshine more.
Odyssey > Sunshine > 64 > G2 > Galaxy
Also: > an actual honest discussion on a designated shitposting thread.
This game has been getting just as many sneedposts as BotW lately. But I guess it’s not the same, since so many of them are cubies coping about people not loving Sunshine as much anymore
Sunshine's always been the black sheep of the 3D BingBing Wahoo since forever, fantastic movement but average in everything else.
Odyssey is mediocre, it has some really nice moments like the Paulina singing segment and the wedding but it's just... it handles terribly and i fear it's only going to get worse.
Because it's my opinion and it's objectively correct, Odyssey handles like any other Unreal Engine platformer. It's the same movement as a hat in time or whatever that game is called.

It’s not your opinion that the game has no weight or acceleration. It’s your moronation

The acceleration is almost instant then, it's like every single movement option hits a specified number instantly, it's jarring, the mark of a nu-garbage game.
64 is the greatest videogame of all time. It is also the most underrated game of all time because no one really understands it. Super Mario 64 is the only videogame worth playing.
Excellent game, and probably the most soulful Mario entry to date, but linear Mario just offers a flat-out better gameplay experience. Odyssey’s levels are extremely polished with neat capture mechanics, varied moon tasks, and creative new takes on conventional themes, and Mario’s movement itself has arguably never been better; but I just don’t find myself having quite the same level of fun as I did replaying Galaxy 2 just prior to this playthrough. I nonetheless respect Odyssey for being a much-needed change of pace after a decade of linear Marios.
This. Super Metroid is average at best and people praising it because of "muh atmosphere!" were console babbies that didn't touch a PC game until after 2000.
>it's sooo shooort!
I literally spent like 50 hours on this game. Isn't it... a bit too much for a 3D platformer? No, wait, I understand that every game needs to be a 150 hour bloated open world meme now but come on
Maingame was fricking perfect and I enjoyed it a ton
Postgame was a disappointment outside of Mushroom Kingdom, though >Dark Side is just 10 more picture puzzles and Broodal boss rush while Darker Side is nowhere near as challenging as I hoped for >rabbit chase / Koopa racing / binocular check added in every fricking world >moonrocks add a bunch of rehashed moons (hatless timer doll / 2D music notes / free moons appearing in easy spots / etc.) and only new challenge rooms were decent >new costumes require insane amount of coins and you have to do Luigi's balloon online thing to efficiently get coins
Odyssey didn't invent anything like SM64 when it comes to 3D platforming, but I still enjoyed playing it.
>But the coin requirements for some costumes were absurd
All of the DLC costumes suck ass anyway except for the Sunshine shirt and glasses so why bother
>Darker Side is nowhere near as challenging as I hoped for
I agree >reach Darker Side >Perfect Run and Champion's Road PTSD kicks in >oh boy this will take 5 hours, won't it? okay I'm ready >*6 tries later* wait, that's it?..
That's BotW. I never saw that many people gush over Odyssey. It just kind of came and went. I liked it, with the exception of the fricked art direction at times, they should've stuck with the original idea of all worlds having the Mario aesthetics. The realistic T-Rex, Dark Souls dragon and humans looked super out of place.
>no proper hub world >no lives >no fall damage >coins are used to buy worthless cosmetics for basic ass "wear this shirt combo" moons >moons are everywhere and poorly designed >poison puddles lazily spammed everywhere even in levels that clash thematically with it >world themes are just NSMB tropes but with an expedia.com flavor >story is peach gets kidnapped. Again. >peach uncharacteristically behaves like a stronk woman dont need no man SJW at the end almost abandoning Mario on the moon after rejecting him >captures are basic Conker tier context puzzles nearby >moveset is inferior to 64/Sunshine with nerfed wall jumps, long jumps, dives and spin jumps
Sœydyssey is the worst 3D mario only beloved by normalgays and secondaries. Every hardcore mario fan I know hates it. Bowsers Fury is better and its a basic side mode made by NST. Fricking sad and pathetic. Mario is about platforming not combing shelf corners in a gardenbox.
Yep
Yeah it's overrated. Its way too fricking short, but I still had fun.
bro i beat it in 8 hours and it still felt too long. the game was so boring and easy
worse than sunshine. Let that sink in

> it's just... it handles terribly and i fear it's only going to get worse
Le sigh
it's the trend, simpler and mobile-like type of movement, no acceleration, no weight like 64 or sunshine, just garbage movement.
>no acceleration, no weight like 64 or sunshine, just garbage movement
Demonstrably false. Why bother with moronic shitposting like that?
Because it's my opinion and it's objectively correct, Odyssey handles like any other Unreal Engine platformer. It's the same movement as a hat in time or whatever that game is called.

agreed
floaty weightless mario made sense and worked in the galaxy games but i wish they would go back to giving him a sense of weight and momentum
Mario has always felt floaty. Even in the first game he falls a lot slower than he jumps.
That's not a Zelda game though.

this must be bait, come on now anon...
Speaking of replaying Odyssey, it might be your turn.
>*50 shekels have been deposited into your account*
how is this overrated? no one even talks about it anymore
It was mediocre for a Mario game, I agree. Still puts it at a solid 8.5/10 though.
i hate how lazy and all over the place the theming in this game is
>DUDE NEW YORK
>DUDE EGYPT
>DUDE CHINA
fricking yawn
There was a China level? I can't remember it.
That's the point anon, it's a journey across the world.
>”yawn”
Truly the reddit filter of Mario games
If this game’s theming is lazy then every Mario game’s theming is lazy
>64
>rainbow road themed level
>bomb-omb battlefield
>thwomp fortress
>galaxy games
>all creative planets themed around mario enemies
the theming is actually creative and relevant to mario, not just fricking DUDE COUNTRIES
64>Sunshine>Odyssey>Galaxy
All great though
Behold, the actual most overrated game of all time
Metroidgays are a bane against nintendo
This. Super Metroid is average at best and people praising it because of "muh atmosphere!" were console babbies that didn't touch a PC game until after 2000.
1. Filtered
2. That’s not Earthbound
Only because it has a female protagonist. Otherwise the game is solid. What’s wrong with it?
>What’s wrong with it?
It's a Nintendo game, which is, according to Ganker, the biggest argument
It’s not accessible enough, too much of a pleb filter
Too easy
Boring and simplistic level design
Areas aren't connected naturally so there's a ton of backtracking
>it's sooo shooort!

I've literally never heard this complain about Mario Odyssey before.
Uhhh second reply in this thread

Koopa Races and Strawman Challenges are kino. As is Luigi’s Balloon mode. But the coin requirements for some costumes were absurd

How did this get a 97? Its honestly the most boring Mario game in two decades
The Switch doesn't have enough games from Nintendo's big franchises.
