>behold, three neglected starters who were so organically popular that GameFreak/TPC would absolute idiots to not give them some sort of attention, but because they aren't shillmons and giving them megas or another broken battle gimmick might make them overshadow CHARIZARD, they were stuck with regionals instead
fixed it for you, friendo
They didn't try with Decidueye at all, and just shilled Incineroar instead. This is despite the fact that Decidueye is way more popular than Incineroar.
Not with the only audience that ACTUALLY matters to Game Freak, it wasn't. >2023 >owlcucks STILL cannot process their defeat during their moment in the sun
That it's the youngest pokémon by far to get a regional form only highlights how great a misstep Game Freak see it as. The other two at least have the excuse of being bland starters at least old enough to be ignored by modern children, in what was 26 years of the franchise being a thing. Decidueye got ignored nd maligned so badly, it got re-tooled at the earliest convenience to try and salvage the thing.
>they kept trying to push Decidueye
Fricking when lmao?
>Had a stint as the best mon in the TCG >Used to directly promote the Switch port of Pokken >Was a hair's breadth from being in Smash if not for Sakurai being a long time wrestling fan >Gets a new form in Arceus >Is now in Unite
And yet people pretend Incineroar was the one getting push.

That you think it getting a retool form is evidence of it being anything but a flop is what tickles me most. Every regional form is something that's unpopular in the modern age, with the new batch of kids. Why wouldn't the regional starters be anything other than adhering to that trope. if they wanted a popular past starter to regionalise, they had Greninja, Sceptile and Charizard for popular starter choices.
No, my argument is Game Freak need to push it too, like they did Lucario, Charizard and Greninja for it to be actual shilling and not TPC using what they were allowed to, to not step on the big boys' toes.
And in case you missed it, Game Freak anointed Incineroar the designated shillmon - that's why it was godly in VGC and why the anime evolved Ash's and made his Rowlet eat an evestone.

>and why the anime evolved Ash's and made his Rowlet eat an evestone
It was only around for 2 episodes. And Rowlet getting the Everstone was because its first form did bank. The same exact same thing happened to Dawn's Piplup previously.

Yes, the first form did Bank and the final evo was nowhere in serious conversation for most popular of the Gen.
Yet still owlgays thought it was a matter of time before it evolved and became Ash's ace, so they made it eat an everstone, then glossed over the rest of the line's introduction, as they rightly knew it wasn't something people were champing at the bit to see.

So to you, using Decidueye as a reason for people to buy the port of Pokken by making it exclusive to that version doesn't count as shilling because it's not "important enough of a venue."
You are why people hate the owl fanbase. Because you don't want to admit you had nothing but support. Because that means admitting Incineroar won the long game and you're left with sunk cost for all of your time shitposting.

It flopped, so it can't really count as shilling, unless it's failed shilling (a hallmark of decidueye up to the redesign that made it look less an american teenager). And who celebrates failed shilling, only morons looking to claim ANY kind of a win to hold onto while reality batters them in the face.
Not remember? That time they launched a dead game fighter, which flopped despite Smash and Incineroar being nowhere near ready for launch to trouble its potential for sales.
And popularity does not correlate across members of a line as Decidueye proved coming 15th and behind both fuly-evolved starters in the Dream poll anon. It's repeating again with skeledirge, only this time the base stage is only 4th most popular, behind a pink gremlin, a japanese giant salamander (patriotism, love it) and sexo gata and drige a full 25 below that, but it's wild to see history repeat so soon.
the only thing wrong with samurott is the fact that it's not water/fighting
they really had to have their fire/fighting emboar even though it could've worked as a fire/dark or fire/ground type with some redesigns
What reason do you guys believe they give certain mons regionals?
I'm asking out of sheer curiosity as I don't know/don't have an opinion. I just like regionals and would love to see a few of my favorites end up with them.
For Alola, it was just for anniversary reasons.
For Galar, it was mons they could easily adapt into facets of Brit culture/history [Linoone's thieving nature being converted into a barbarian, Farfetch'd becoming a knight, etc.
For Paldea, it was mons they could play around with the convergent evolution idea somewhat naturally and/or had cultural significance
IIRC all we know is that pokemon are often designed with some sort of prompt given to the designer(s) like "make a pokemon of this type combination" or "make a pokemon that fits this environment in the region" stuff like that.
I think we heard this before regional variants were a thing though, so maybe it's different for them, but imagine this:
if the designers are given the prompt "it's a Spain region, make a fighting bull" regional tauros seems like a no brainer.
oshawott cyndaquil and rowlet make a good amount of sense for an old japan region, and they probably picked them first and then decided to give them regional evolutions to fit the game more or maybe just to surprise people who expected them to not get new evolutions.
that's just theory based on the little info we have on the pokemon designing process.
some are hard to think of reasons for, like Galatians meowth. that mightve just been a "let's shill meowth again" situation but I don't know since they already had G-max meowth
>behold, three neglected starters who were so organically popular that GameFreak/TPC would absolute idiots to not give them some sort of attention, but because they aren't shillmons and giving them megas or another broken battle gimmick might make them overshadow CHARIZARD, they were stuck with regionals instead

Well, two of them fit that. You can probably guess who the other one is.
nta, but is it Samurott?
Yeah, he's the one that came to mind. Oshawott was organically popular, but Samurott? Not so much
Rowlet was literally the face of Alola and they kept trying to push Decidueye and failed, what are you on. The other two fit.

Yeah, no. You're just a hypocrite.

Inshiteroar failed that hard
It's been SIX GOING ON SEVEN YEARS and they are still crying.
>no one except baragays likes my anthro abomination after six-seven years
your point is...?
They seriously didn't try at all.
>they kept trying to push Decidueye
Fricking when lmao?

Rowlet was loved by everyone the second the three were revealed. Its the most organically liked post Gen 4 starter easy.
>most organically liked post Gen 4 starter easy.
Ok, I forgot Greninja, second.

this doesn't apply to turdphlosion and they probably just wanted to make it gayer to make charizard look cooler (it worked btw)
hi baldie
still no wig?
>gen 9
>zard loses weather ball
>now mogged by both typhlosions
KWAB

doesn't even need a rework for fire dark. it's based on a Chinese emperor or something and Chinese are evil so it fits (see:the Chinese legendaries)

It seems a combination of having an idea that would fit a setting and wanting to give old Pokemon some spotlight.

Those aren't Gen 9 starters though
