the grinding in this game is so tedious but i was actually having fun just doing every single meaningless and pointless location just so i could fire epic all over it and the 5 repeating enemies over and over again. very fun turn your brain off type of game imo.

Origins was a soft reboot and it was advertised as one. You don't need to play any other entries in the series to understand it's modern day or historical story. That alone makes it appealing more than anything else. In order to understand Syndicate you need to play at least Unity and maybe AC4 too. In order to understand Origins you don't need to play anything. So it's understandable why many people started the series with that.

God damn. Weird how many new IPs came out in 2007, and now it's been nearly 20 years and most of those franchises have been run into the ground.

As someone else has already said, most people nowadays started with Origins. If you ever see people ITTs praising it, chances are it's because it was their first AC and they came from playing Witcher 3

        >soul
        >play the most well crafted ones
Start with 1 and end with Revelations. I'm not joking. AC1 is the most soulful and the franchise's narrative reaches its fulfilling peak with Revelations. The ending of that game is a love letter to the four previous games, and it's all downhill from 3 forwards (and after 3 there's effectively no narrative thread to follow, no reason to play the games in order, no more "previously on" that assured you this was one strong story to get invested in) Trust me on this.

2 is by far the most soulful. It introduced the most iconic character of the entire series, has one of the best depictions of Renaissance Italy in media, is full of memorable setpieces, and was the last entry before the modern day story went off the rails.

all ezio does is use altair's blueprints for the future. the only thing that makes him "iconic" is ubishit's lust for sequels.

AC2 is a good game and far more soulful than what AC turned into in the future but you're lying to yourself if you think it didn't fundamentally change the style AC1 was going for for a more 'carefree' one. Not only in the past with Ezio being everyone's favorite golden boy but also in the present by forgetting all about the post-apocalyptic vibes 1's computer emails were going for. A plague ravaging Africa, Americans fleeing to Mexico, cinemas all over the world closing down, etc.

    >Best Assassin's Creed game
it really isn't. Connor was a shit MC so people just latched on to Edwards because he's reminiscent of Ezio in his wienersure disposition. But they frick up his character arc by slotting him into a generic hero's journey mold so he HAS to realize that being a pirate is not all that it's cracked up to be and le... become assassin. All of this happens because of dumb forced reasons so it's doubly annoying.

Also like always the melee combat sucks, the ship combat is fun for 10hrs then it becomes boring but at least you can just fast travel around. The problem is the story is shit and focuses too much on the crappy scifi plot. That was never the case in the ezio games instead it was a personal story of ezio and his relationship to the assassin's creed. Edward's story is a generic hero's journey.

      >Connor was a shit MC so people just latched on to Edwards because he's reminiscent of Ezio in his wienersure disposition
Edward is nothing like Ezio. Ezio is charming, macho, ladies man and a Gary Stu on top of that. Edward is a flawed man from the start to the end.
      >. But they frick up his character arc by slotting him into a generic hero's journey mold so he HAS to realize that being a pirate is not all that it's cracked up to be and le... become assassin. All of this happens because of dumb forced reasons so it's doubly annoying.
How is it forced anon? Anyone he ever cared about either betrayed him, left him to die or the ones who didn't betrayed him died in front of him. Mary's death was the last straw for his selfish pursuit. He understands his flaws and tries to overcome it. Also it's unique because Edward, for the 90% of the game, is a third party just like Sage himself in this story. Funny how you say Ezio's revenge story is better when 90% of the AC stories are just revenge stories. Edward's story is unique in AC, well it was until Valhalla which follows many of the same beats but ends in a different spot.

      Is Syndicate really that bad?

Syndicate is a fun London simulator. No idea why people hate it so much. It feels like Unity done better for the most part.

Sad thing is not even Ubisoft understands what made Black Flag so great. It wasn't ship battles. It wasn't lack of Assassin stuff(Black Flag's approach to Assassin stuff is unique btw). It was pirate FANTASY. They made Skull and Bones and it was a massive flop. Skull and Bones also had ship battles with even more depth in fact and it had none of the assassin stuff. But it was still a flop. Simply because of few minor things in fact
    - Can't get out of your ship and explore islands
    - Can't engage in melee combat
    - Can't look for treasures(random generated treasures in hubs doesn't count)
    - Can't go and hunt whales
    - Can't dive into shipwrecks for treasure or underground caves
Ubisoft and even fans thought people liked Black Flag because of ship battles but that couldn't be further from the truth. People liked it because it sold them pirate fantasy, not world of warships fantasy. Black Flag was lightning in a bottle because 90% of the stuff you do is all about pirate fantasy. Then you open shit like Origins or Odyssey and 90% of the things you do is the stuff already done better in Witcher 3 with nothing unique about them or their settings. Like for example, take Odyssey, change it's assets to resemble let's say Achaemenid Persia. That game would work 100% fine because nothing about Odyssey besides it's visuals is about Greece. Greece is just a setting for Odyssey.

While Valhalla checks off most of those boxes most of the stuff you do in that game is just shitty puzzles. Even the biggest draw, raiding is tied to a shitty puzzle mechanic instead of Black Flag's ''kill 20 sailors to win the boarding'' system. For what purpose? They could've had a 9/10 in their hands but they turned it into a 7/10 with that moronation. If fastest way to win raids and sieges is ignoring enemies then you failed at making a good viking game.

Unity is an okay game though. I'm not claiming it's a misunderstood masterpiece because it has many issues outside of bugs and glitches. But it feels like what AC should've been going forward, at least when it comes to Assassin part of AC(since it's a shit revolutionary Paris game). Not the offline MMO ARPG mutants newer games are.

I enjoyed Rogue because you got to play as the actual good guys (the authoritarians + the British Empire) and it had all the same gameplay as black flag except instead of pirate themed, it is based on slaughtering the french and black Black person assassins.
