      This.
The IMOQ series may be a bit repetitive and have a frick ton of "if only they'd done THIS" in it, but at the same time you really can't argue that it feels like a little slice of what people thought MMO culture was prior to WoW steamrolling replacing those notions with something else.
Imagine if this was remade but with FFXII's RTWP+Gambits and a bit more of a fully-realized procedually generated world keyword system. Holy SHIT it would be kino of the highest order.

IMOQ is mostly inventory management at the end of the day tho, it get really boring.

That said I watched the shows and played the frick out of the games for the story, characters, and the fricking music especially. Both Kajiura and the game composers have put out the best music I have EVER heard

PSP2i, Lord of Apocalypse and Warriors of the Lost Empire all on the PSP.

These are genuinely terrible. frägment is kind of okay since it cuts down the menuing but you gotta patch it to English yourself. Also has online play if you have friends.

Yeah, at the time this game was everything you imagined a MMO would be. I remember before I played it my friend with hype the game up telling me how good it was. Then I finally got it for myself. I don't think anyone who played MMOs post 2010 could ever appreciate this series. It'll come off as too clunky and outdated.

          >faster EXP gain overall
means less grinding random dungeons. but if you take time to do sidequest that you get from emails/forum posts, you end up overleveled for most of the story content
          >extra features
additional fluff like extra artwork/BGM for your desktop and some extra movies
          >new chapter Vol. 4
a short "epilogue" chapter in addition to the original 3 Volumes. a lot of story content and adds something new to the combat
          >final thoughts
if you're someone new to .hack, it's a good starting point. tho you'll find that the game is pretty easy.
if you're an old fan who's already played the originals on PS2, just rush the story and do the Doppleganger side quests if you just wanna rush to Vol. 4. or skip to Vol. 4 entirely.
been having fun replaying it after all these years and I still read the in-game forum posts anytime something new pops-up

Personally speaking, a lot of MMOs dumb down combat to account for the fact that the real challenge comes from coordinating 3-7 other people. Xenoblade particularly frustrates me because every battle feels like solitaire, what the enemy does doesn't really matter for the most part, there's no push and pull

    > Gamespot Interview

Q: When did the development on FFXII begin?

Minaba: Quite some time ago. In the beginning, we started out trying to make a game for PlayOnline, since Matsuno [the director] was involved in that project. It was a really small project, where we were thinking of producing one game in about half a year's time. Yoshida was doing the background artwork and I was doing the character designs for the fun of it. Before we realized it, it was a full-time project.

Yoshida: That's kind of how the game began, but it's not really the official beginning of FFXII's development launch.

That caps kek really made me rethink my ways. I dont see how anything i said got refuted but that double troon is a convincing argument.

No clue how anyone enjoys this game tbh. I dropped it faster than any other game I've tried. Terrible.

well that's why you didn't enjoy the game. the tutorial takes about 5 hours until you finally get your 6 party members lol

I like the world of Ivalice but I didn't really like FF12 that much

I would have liked something like Bravely Default set in Ivalice

Speaking of, why do we call games with this style of combat "action rpgs"? Honestly, it feels closer to turn based games than something like dark souls or other action heavy rpgs. Almost feels like there should be a 3rd subgenre for autobattlers/cooldown games like this.

Kingdom of amalur is pretty fun. GoW style combat with RPG mechanics. Feels like a single player MMO.

If you like loot grinding there's Megaton Musashi. It has a lot of story which could be good or bad depending on what you like.

Does it have microtransaction/battle pass trash?

It's weird because it's a re-relaunch of a game with more content. It has stuff like daily login bonuses but there's no mtx. It has some DLC though which I haven't really looked into but seems mostly cosmetic with the exception of deluxe edition adding a couple mechas and weapons.

I'd say pirate to see if you like it. Early game is very easy but if the gameplay appeals to you it is worth sticking through as it will get more difficult.

I am glad that you all admit it now after the farce that went on regarding Dragon's Dogma tbh. I highly suggest going to /vg/ and making a thread there, and simply understand that you are completely tasteless and essentially dead -- so do not shit up other threads in the future.
