>i hate his snarky never serious bullshit so bad >Anyone does that in real life definitely means theyre an autist or mentally ill
Who asked you and since when Ganker became your personal blog for your fragile hurt feelings and retarded thoughts, literal gay?
Beat me to it. But it's also fair to point to diversity hiring as a reason why we have so many bad writers who are asinine enough to think copying wheadon is a substitute for talent.
Ironically, Joss Whedon does his own schtick well, because he recognizes that the characters saying the quips aren't heroic figures, just jaded anti-heroes. It also wouldn't be used in truly serious moments.
But then people would copy the wacky writing and apply it to heroic or edgy characters they want people to like and cheer for. They'd ruin the tone of an emotional scene, just so they can squeeze in their unfunny millennial "lol I'm so depressed xD" tier joke.
Why are games allergic to sincerity now? I feel like the vast majority of story-driven games made in the last 10 years are full of pic related type of humor. Why is it so hard for them to be sincere?
Sincere things can be morally uplifting and culturally uniting. And the watchwords of todays media are "demoralisation" and "division." So sincerity is right out.
>Show me examples of games with sincere writing you have bought.
I bought Soul Reaver and Soul Reaver 2 back in the day.
I bought Bioshock.
I bought Jedi: Fallen Order (yes it has sincere writing)
Thank you for replying.Soul Reavers are great,I haven't played Jedi:Fallen Order.Bioshock is also great, but it's insincere-Ken Levine has an underlying agenda.
Current zeitgeist doesn't support sincerity, but you can already feel the pendulum swing back.Maybe 5-10 more years?
I am rewatching through DS9 and there are so many moments that, if they happened in nuTrek today, would be uncut with some unprofessional, emotionally-charged, vulgar bullshit. >Let me tell you something about Curzon. >He was my friend, he was my confidant. In a way he was my teacher as well. >But he was also manipulative, self, and arrogant.
Today, they would just >But he was also an asshole.
And they would leave it at that. Hell, they'd probably throw in a "fucking" because no way would no damn Black Man be caught talkin jive like whitey.
No solemnity, no gravitas, no sincerity.
>if they happened in nuTrek today, would be uncut with some unprofessional, emotionally-charged, vulgar bullshit.
100%. I can't stand modern trek because of this. Joss Whedon ruined dialogue forever.
>Why is it so hard for them to be sincere?
If they are sincere, the shit writing is exposed. Marvel movies do the same thing. If any dialogue sounds dumb they can pretend it's on purpose. It's like a cologne for shitty writers.
this should be extra cringe and stupid as punishment for gays that want them in the game. you should be constantly reminded of the cringe of romancing a fucking npc. it's one thing to have a companion like you or even really like you but to literally fall in love with you and have some kind of romantic relationship is fucking cringe at best and really creepy at worst.
What the fuck is with you people and just dreading any kind of dialogue that isn't the most bland shit ever? Its like you play RPGs just to roleplay as a wooden board.
Edgy and/or humorous dialogue choices are a staple in RPGs BUT they still have to make sense. >I'm an elevator person now.
What does that even mean? Nobody talks like that. It's like an AI came up with that line. In any good RPG that line would be a low int dialogue option, at best. But Bethesda has a superficial understanding of RPG dialogue and since they think that an RPG needs humorous choices that's the best they came up with, it's pathetic.
It's not supposed to be funny. It's specifically for millennials who were born too late to fire mah laz0r or know about teh rei, but still think nonsensical bullshit is the epitome of funny.
>Once life support was gone, that was it, everyone still on the station was gone... >"Umm, so you're saying don't board the station if you have trouble breathing?"
"I'm an elevator person now. I build my kingdom here." Lmao like thats even possible, why is Bugthesda so incompetent? Wheres the elevator kingdom minigame? Stupid fucks.
Bethesda games only have two roleplaying archetypes at best, and they chose to make them boring NPC and redditor.
So in other words they perfectly pander to their target audience.
I'm ashamed to admit it, but that choice got a chuckle out of me and I chose it. After playing bg3 though, holy shit. It's like bethesda didn't even try with their dialogue options. They didn't even have a voiced protagonist this time!
Sorry you have autism and don't get what it means to be cheeky sometimes.
joss whedon did more damage to the west than anything ever
i hate his snarky never serious bullshit so bad
Anyone does that in real life definitely means theyre an autist or mentally ill

Aka anyone who isn't braindead conformist or reddit
Beat me to it. But it's also fair to point to diversity hiring as a reason why we have so many bad writers who are asinine enough to think copying wheadon is a substitute for talent.

Not even Joss Whedon is that bad. That's classic shitty millennial woman writing. Which is Whedon writing but even more quirky and obnoxious
>No. I elevator person now. I build kingdom here.
huh?
Why are games allergic to sincerity now? I feel like the vast majority of story-driven games made in the last 10 years are full of pic related type of humor. Why is it so hard for them to be sincere?
there are two non-joke options there
>Yes
>Sarcastic Yes
>Question that doesn't advance the conversation
what does this have to do with how sincere they are
Because sincerity is considered weakness. It's a disadvantageous position.
Sincere things can be morally uplifting and culturally uniting. And the watchwords of todays media are "demoralisation" and "division." So sincerity is right out.
Because you wouldn't play or pay for such a game. You demand but don't support. Show me examples of games with sincere writing you have bought.

Will you ever get over it and move on with your life?
>NOOOO STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT THE BILLION DOLLAR COMPANY
get a life, lad
what does that mean?
romances in bideo games are usually cringe, but they managed to make it absolutely fucking retardedly gay
this should be extra cringe and stupid as punishment for gays that want them in the game. you should be constantly reminded of the cringe of romancing a fucking npc. it's one thing to have a companion like you or even really like you but to literally fall in love with you and have some kind of romantic relationship is fucking cringe at best and really creepy at worst.
>you can't have anything cheesy or corny in your games, everything needs to be turbo serious and overly-cynical
Treating everything as a fucking joke with no sincerity is cynical.
>we want the shitty chalk candy heart audience
that's cute, you have a black hole where your heart should be if you have a problem with it
being able to have a black hole-hearted character defines a roleplaying game
why would a blackhole hearted character want a relationship?
All the dialogue in this 2/10 game funnier if you assign an Indian accent to it.
THIS! it’s all written by illiterate low IQ poojeets. everyone’s dialogues, even women talk like a male from india. and everyone’s stupid
>not you are the brightest star in my field
dropped
kek i saw that earlier while playing and immediately thought it seemed like a woman written line. lots of that in shartfield sadly
What the fuck is with you people and just dreading any kind of dialogue that isn't the most bland shit ever? Its like you play RPGs just to roleplay as a wooden board.

Reddit shitters and Marvel fans, in other words.
The voice acting is even worse. Everyone speaks softly like they're trying not to wake their roommate up.
I like dialogue like this in the game because the setting is so dry
ME AND YOU
MY MAMA AND SARAH TOO
>click le quirky special dialogue
>"oh you are such a jokester"
>Nothing changes
>click le no dialogue
>"oh you are such a jokester"
>Nothing changes
>click le yes dialogue
>"oh you are such a jokester"
>Nothing changes
Nice rpg elements
>Once life support was gone, that was it, everyone still on the station was gone...
>"Umm, so you're saying don't board the station if you have trouble breathing?"
its so fucking lazy Im losing my mind
all the perk/trait choices dont matter and you get literally the same responses again and again
>Hate elevators
"I'm an elevator person now. I build my kingdom here." Lmao like thats even possible, why is Bugthesda so incompetent? Wheres the elevator kingdom minigame? Stupid fucks.
haha these are all the dialogue options from having 1 intelligence like in new vegas right haha show me the other choices
how about
>I'm doing thing. This is where I do thing...
you can make a millenial writing bingo card for this game and win within 2 play sessions.
Main quest is a major low point weirdly enough. I guess the least competent writers get the best jobs due to nepotism
todd is very funny. like when he told you to buy a new pc just to play starslop
What's his tax policy in the elevator kingdom?
look at the credits
the whites are fewer and fewer

Is this a Jar Jar reference?
