I'm trying to think of the most recurring tropes in Isekai stories in order to either subvert them or flesh them out fully:
A few ive come up with thus far:
>Adventurers guild
>Goblins, goblins everywhere
>Dungeons for no fucking reason
>The inevitable acquisition of a slave girl
>Gotta kill the demon lord (duh)
>to either subvert them or flesh them out fully
So you're not gonna have every native be dumb so the protags can impress them all with their ingenuity?
All of the bad guys are evil for really stupid or quirky reasons that fall apart under 30 seconds of critical scrutiny.
All the good guys are stupid as fuck and incompetent as fuck, only the protagonists are capable of applying anything above grade-school problem-solving to situations.

Sorry you didn't make the janny cut, anon. Better luck next time.
>The legendary master swordsman/martial artist/sage/wizard/whatever is actually a hot woman or even little girl, and you are expected to be surprised by this.
Also she will be smug as fuck and generally obnoxious to be around (and quite possibly an actual shitty person), but get away with it because author's pet.
I have a DM who ALWAYS does this. It doesn't matter if we're playing fantasy, scifi, capeshit, isekai, non-isekai, whatever... the strongest character in the setting will ALWAYS be a young woman or teenage girl, and the DM will always act like it's some huge plot twist reveal when we find out. Our group has in-jokes now about all his campaigns being from some femcel's self-insert fanfiction.net account.
Lmao holy shit why are you still playing with him? Is he a decent GM with this one weird obsession with girl bosses?
>Is he a decent GM
Yes, believe it or not.
>with this one weird obsession with girl bosses?
We're starting to think so. At first I thought he was just trying to copy LE EPIC PLOT-TWIST tropes, but it's happened enough times now that we have in-jokes about it. It stopped being a "surprise" after the first time, and even then it's really not THAT much of a surprise nowadays, especially when most of us are manga-readers and have seen this trope before.
Is he a marvel fanboy?
Dunno, but I don't think so.
Would you rather the strongest non-deity character in the setting be a mute, 5'0 twink? Until the party beats him of course.
>One (and exactly one, the creativity stops at one every time) typically weak archetypal fantasy monster is actually THE STRONGEST and EVERYBODY IS AFRAID OF THEM
>If anybody else got Isekai'd with you, they hate you and are actively trying to murder you or sabotage your journey, often due to some contrived misunderstanding
>Rape is constant. Village gets raided by literally any faction, be they monster or human? Every woman in the village is getting raped, and it's probably going to be shown on screen in some capacity
>Levels and classes are a known thing in the world, and you physically change as you level up. Bonus points if monsters level up and transform from cool, properly monstrous designs into generic anime waifu/husbando forms as they get stronger
Ask me how I can tell you're a furfag
Not him but I'm curious, how?
It's not even a furry thing, it's just shit like pic related that rubs me the wrong way.
SHE WAS ALREADY CUTE ENOUGH IN HER NORMAL OGRE FORM YOU FUCKING MORONS, WHY WOULD YOU RUIN IT BY MAKING HER INTO A GENERIC ANIME WOMAN WITH A HORN?! YOU TOOK AWAY ANY DEFINING FEATURES SHE HAD!
Still seething about it all this time later, they pull this crap with EVERY monster in that anime and it eventually got to the point where I had to stop watching, it pissed me off too much.
Cool monster>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
girl
You may seethe and cope about this but you know that this is true
All of those except the slave girl trope are more like JRPG tropes, which is what a lot of isekai is based on to be fair. If you want to be thorough with finding tropes, you should analyze and categorise the tropes of a large variety of stories, but here are some anyway:
>Main character is either super strong and/or very invonvenienced (by their abilities, by their social circumstances)
>Using real world knowledge to gain an advantage
>MC's real world circumstances before the world transfer are conveniently ignored
>MC befriends or seduces something unlikely, like monsters, strong people, or royalty
I think the main thing is to base everything on wish fulfillment and escapism
>meanwhile Russian isekai
Wtf is this, i can't read east roman runes. From the look of it seems something like "I can't believe i got reincarnated as Darth Vader and transported in WWII. Now i have to unite europe as the world's strongest dictator!"
That would actually be kind of hilarious. Pretty sure that it’s not the case though, lol.
You'd be surprised
The protagonist died by getting hit wi th something, typically a truck. They are now being given a shot at a new life because they “weren’t supposed” to die, it was some celestial screwup. Often this is explained by a buxom goddess.
Side note I want an anime where some truck driver is being given hit lists by goddesses, the lists being of teenagers to run over so they can be sent to other worlds, and the truck driver is starting to get sick of killing teens and wants out.
I had a similar idea, clearly there is some sort of pan-dimensional conspiracy going on. Perhaps the gods might assemble a crew of heroes/antiheroes to put a stop to this. If we are going with Chinese mythology, the celestial beurocracy might hire Cultivators to take on the Isekai kids. Cultivators allegedly having to work hard to earn the powers Isekai heroes are getting illegaly for free.
Maybe check the Standard Japanese Fantasy Setting trope; that tends to be where the bulk of the tropes come from. The other parts are basically riffing off of JRPG tropes.
>The only time the MCs first idea or impression is wrong is when it's both in his favor and ironically funny to the audience.
I can see there’s a lot of cross contamination between /a/ and /tg/. I wonder if Sword Art Online has anything to do with it…
Mc is retarded, but still the smartest character. Mc is 54735739927× stronger than everyone else. Mc is missing an ability or skill that everyone else has, but is actually the reason they are so much stronger. Mc is not a human despite there being humans in that world.
God, I hate this shit genre.
Isekai as a genre has unlimited potential for storytelling but unfortunately it’s like the Japanese equivalent of tried and true dystopian YA novels aimed at losers and it’s why almost all the popular shit that gets animated are boring ecchi harem power fantasy shit. the average isekai diehard thinks they’re some tormented soul rejected by society when in reality they’re usually just an unlikable socially awkward autist.
