Used to love playing Eye of the Beholder on the SNES but it scared me since I was really young so I could only play in short bursts before I became too scared.

Are there any more 'single character blobbers' like Dungeon Hack and LoL2? Aside from LoL3 and UO 1&2 that is.

          Based.
It's more of an action game than a traditional blobber. Still pretty cool though.

Stonekeep came with this rad book I read to my little sister as a bed time story. The game itself was quite annoying at times, and sometimes outright unfair. But it, like all those older fmv-based games, oozes soul.

what was the name of the game that was like this, but in a dungeon? starts in some hallways where you look at portraits on the walls to choose your heros

Dungeonmaster was great. I had chaos strikes back on my ste when I was like 6 or something. I used to draw naked women as the portraits.
Dad found out and used them as his party, then told mom that he drew them so I wouldn't get in trouble.

My brother and I also played bloodwych co-op which was fricking cool. But there was never enough food for a two player game.

In recent time, the three biggest franchises were Legend of Grimrock (1/2), Vaporum/Vaporum Lockdown, and Operencia.
Grimrock is fantastic, both of them. Vaporum (1/Lockdown) is meh, hugely crippled by the fact that you only control single character. Lockdown is a lot more refined and generally better, but I still feel like these games did not really understand the potential of these dungeon crawlers.
Operencia is interesting, but I only played a bit ot it. Apparently, it has some ballance issues in later game.

In classic lineup, you definitely want to try Dungeon Master 1/2, which were the direct inspirations to Grimrock.

              >inb4 why don't you just try them
Because they're the kind of games you sink hours into before you realize that you're playing an inferior version

Westwood games had some of the best art.
Music too. Klepacki was an absolute master.
I miss eob and lands of lore (2 was the best in both series, despite their flaws) those games were made with soul in mind.

Problem is with 2 I couldn't find a better weapon that what the end game of 1 gave me so it was a weird equipment gap between 1 and 3
I guess you're supposed to create a new party but the continue the adventure option is there for a reason

Ok anons, recommend me both new and old crawlies, ive played Grimrock 1 and liked it. The etrian series, Kings field/shadow tower series and Smt strange journey. What can you recommend?

Lunacid is still in EA, but it has about 6-7 hours of content already. Pretty good homage to King's Field. Just got and update as well.

Dungeon Hack, Lands of Lore 1&2, Eye of the Beholder, etc. for traditional blobbers. Also

In classic lineup, you definitely want to try Dungeon Master 1/2, which were the direct inspirations to Grimrock.

For blobbers that aren't grid based, Menzoberranzan and Stone Prophet are pretty accessible once you learn to switch between movement and menuing using spacebar.
