Too bad there are unskippable cutscenes in between missions and every mission has at least two characters who WON'T STOP TALKING. Every time I feel like replaying Borderlands 2 I remember how awful the first two hours are and change my mind.

This was a thing before 3. Replaying the sanctuary part in 2 takes for fricking ever because of it, you have to talk to the guard, wait for him to let you put in the new power supply, wait for him to lower the gate, run around, wait for characters to finish talking to get the fetch quest items, etc.

The writing is genuinely bad enough to ruin everything. I agree, Borderlands shooter mechanics were good enough to spawn a whole genre of looter-shooter copycats. But not everyone is enough of a brainlet to literally just turn their mind off playing it, it's hard to get past the incredibly cringy characters and dialogue. Never let Birch near a game studio.

Aurelia, despite having an entire co-op tree is a beast. Glass cannon though.

Athena is good, but she's more fun as melee, but it's harder than her elemental build. Weird.

BL1 had minimal cutscenes and not enough ECHO prattle to ruin the atmosphere.
BL2 had better gameplay, and Handsome Jack balanced out Tiny Tina.
Presequel was a harbinger of things to come.
BL3, between the plot, characters, and dialogue courtesy of tumblr, everyone is Le Quirky Chungus, the framedropping hiccups and gamestopping bugs, and the fact that the AI is supposedly improved but the game is the easiest yet, is just unplayable.

I could not handle that game. I was immediately put off by the character creation not letting you make someone cool or pretty because the primary marketing point is to make a fricking asymmetrical abomination. The starting guns felt like more ass than usual, the first npc you meet is Lorelei, and the commentators were also really fricking obnoxious. Which shouldn't have been a surprise because tina by herself is already a bit much, add in clueless "comic" relief and sassy black robot and it's just poor form all around.

I used to follow borderlands shit on threads, forums, discord, Reddit etc. TTW was the most overhyped game I’ve ever seen where a community completely sucked it off and then forgot about it two months later.
      >one week after release people were saying it’s twice as good as bl2 after all the dlc
      >jerking eachother off over the quirky medieval Tina stuff
      >don’t wait for steam release, this game is worth it and likely won’t release on steam for at least 6 months or a year
      >overlooking giant flaws and no endgame
      >saying how having no vehicles/ transportation is better
      >if you spoke out against any of it you were called a hater or troll

Ok. Now this is the truth.
It redefine fps-arpg. Not a great story, but arguably good characters selection and NPCs.
Smooth mechanics. Decent engine, probably not the best artistic choice, but OK.
    Entertaining and fast pace gunplay.
1,2,presecuel, 3 in order of quality.
3 is the weakest in story & lore, full. Of woke shit (specially dlc) but still enjoyable.
Nothing more. There's really not much to say. A very nice introduction to the fps-arpg with some very cool guns

Disagree about art choice, one of the best decisions they made.
The style looks nice (particularly 2 and Pre-Sequel) and remains genuinely pretty, while other games released in 2009, or 2012 look like shit now.
It fits the universe they built, like a comic book.
      Also 2 = Pre-sequel > 1 > 3 (solely based on dialogue)

The art style was good because it looks better than “realistic” graphics during the 2000s, not to mention it was very unique. I remember as a kid seeing the game for ps3 at Walmart and thinking it looked super cool like mad max or something. Too bad they left that concept and went towards tumblr culture.

I still can't believe 3 did the annoying but important kid subplot. Probably one of the most disliked tropes ever but no one told them it was a bad idea

      Anonymous

They missed a trick by not having her blame Lilith instead of herself for Maya's death. Those plots usually have the turning point of "okay the annoying kid is forced to grow up due to an event making them get serious," but they pass up the ideal opportunity for it and just have her be a brat to Lilith. Then they never have her develop on screen; there's no catalyst to her maturing enough for Lilith to trust her to be leader in Lilith's absence.
If I were in charge of a rewrite, one other change I'd make: Ava doesn't inherit Maya's power when Troy dies, leading to a low point for her as she feels like she failed Maya. Then, later, a dying Tyreen chooses her as the successor to the Leech powers out of spite. And, maybe, deep in Tyreen's heart, it might be out of hesitation to inflict on some random, unprepared girl the curse which defined Tyreen's life. Instead, she opts to give it to the girl who's prepared for it and has, due to having multiple Siren mentors, an actual chance to gain control over the powers.

It's certainly better than Destiny or whatever the modern equivalent is, but the sequels were way too formulaic.

Also switching the language to one you don't understand and then turning off the subtitles improves the game massively.

In theory, the issue with Warframe is you need to devote a frickton of time to actually get desired loot and or Frames since they WANT you to pay for it.
Talking the difference between hundreds of hours to "complete" a Borderlands game, to thousands to "complete" Warframe, if that's even possible.
The point of Borderlands is to get a build that can solo raid bosses consistently.

The most annoying thing with Borderlands 2 is how quickly your weapons become obsolete. On the highest difficulty, the moment you gain 2 more levels on the weapon in your hand, it immediately becomes a pea shooter.

The problem is accentuated by the wending machines. The items sold on them are tied to the level associated with the main quest active at the time (iirc, even the level of drops are linked to active quests). This also punishes you for doing the side quests, because you will level up even faster.

In my single Borderlands 1 playthrough, I recall using some of the legendary weapons found midway through all the way to the end. I haven't played the later games, so I don't know if the problem persists.

You only truly start enjoying Borderlands 2 on the 'ultimate vault hunter' difficulty when you max out your level and the epic/legendary weapons stop becoming obsolete. Everything before it is a grind to max out your character level.

First one was good only because I played the entire thing splitscreen with an old buddy.
Second game was very good minus the Reddit humor, it had a shit load of content added later on as well.
Pre-Sequel had a few cool characters, outer space shit was dumb, story showed that Handsome Jack was the good guy.
Borderlands 3 has the absolute best gunplay and vehicles, but is plagued by a story so bad that I refuse to try a new character after playing through that story. Character are also worse than 2 and pre sequel.
Tiny Tina’s wonderland takes the horrible story from 3, shitty “humor” from 2/3 and insufferable NPCs/ characters from Apex legends to make an atrocious playthrough. They teased us with building your own character, backstory, class, etc. and then made one backstory hands down best (no way to change it) one class was ten times worse than the rest, and multiclassing was dumb imo. Not to mention there was no endgame reason to keep playing.

All in all Randy Pitchford is a moron. I used to be a huge borderlands fan.

It's so fricking sad when you realize that first game was just a test of scuffed ideas. They didn't know what they were doing and were looking for a theme. The entire game is supposed to be a serious mad max-esque experience, then they dial it down and add some "comedic relief". Normies praised it and moronic devs didn't realize that it was only praised because of the contrast it provided. Now we have abominations such as Tina's adventure and borderlands 3 that are "border land "unbearable because of constant media cringe references.

It's a game that you can pick up, play it to the max level without any farming bullshit and be done with the playthrough.
With BL2 they switched the series to a grindfest with dedicated farms and all kinds of annoying bullshit, the fact that "read-only" farming is considered normal by now (because the devs decided to make half of the unique and powerful items one-off mission rewards) is mind-boggling
